Have you looked at redfetch? Its the new hotness that will replace launcher. Sounds like you can get a head start!
 
I am logged in on 3 browsers and redguids launcher keeps crashing.. I paid just a few days ago again and would like to use what Ipaid for.. i have repaired uninstalled re-instilled i can keep red guides on my screen long to patch and use it please help or I will want a refund

what do you mean "redguides launcher keeps crashing" what specifically is happening?

you've been a member / user for years - help folks help you please

some folks have permissions issues, or antivirus issues that tell their computer "please dont allow hacking software on this pc". Some folks run weird/out-dated browsers and can run into an issue when you go to do the authentication portion via the launcher

if it is the RG launcher that is having the issue, i strongly recommend checking out RedFetch which is the future "RG Launcher". folks don't run into nearly as many permission problems, because it isn't a "program" the same way that the current rg launcher is


edit: going back through our communication history, it looks like you had an issue back in april 2024 - and it ended up being antivirus

Need some help logging into the redguides launcher. First time set-up. All the guides claim pressing 'login' and it will automatically link to your account through the browser. When I click it, nothing happens and the launcher closes.

I live in China, so I use a vpn. I tried turning that off. No luck.
I tried reinstalling the launcher. no luck.
I tried running as administrator. no luck.
I tried changing my default browser, all with redguides already logged in. no luck.
I tried using my google-fi internet from my phone (western internet with no vpn). no luck.

Please help. If I can't login, I cant even get passed step one. Any suggestions? Is there a manual way to login?

please make sure to post in the correct location - the RedGuides launcher has a discussion thread, posting in that discussion thread is the best place for a question/discussion on the redguides launcher.

i would give redfetch a try instead of the RG launcher and see if it works for you that way

yeah it could be - it kind of sounds like you have a windows permission error. I would check you don't have anything quarantined, and check and consider whitelisting your rg/mq/eq folders from AV

I don't know, that's a tall order/question to say with actual-factuality.

you've downloaded from us over the years just fine, and were able to download redfetch obviously

I'm not aware of a restriction that would make launcher/redfetch not work

Trying to install everything on my laptop (already have working everyone on desktop). When I run the RedGuideLauncher on my laptop, the login button opens the browser to a blank page and then says 'Auth: Failed to authenicate with the forums.' I've tried multiple browsers. It's a fresh install. Nothing works. Seems like the site the browser is trying to open is a local 120.x.x.x. address. Any good way to fix this?

Update: Tried redfetch, too, and it just pops open a browser window that endlessly tries to load an auth page as well. but it's redirects to a local 127.0.0.1 address, too.

that's a weird one. I msg'd @Redbot as i can't replicate it, so not sure how to help.

today is also a patch day, so the live VV is down (but that shouldn't prevent authentication with forums and such)
 
looking into it, my guess is either some new win11 default or cloudflare doesn't like your IP
Tried it on my home network, tethered to my phone, and via a VPN--all different IPs. same result. When I click the login button on the RedGuides launcher it opens a browser window with a big long www.redguides.com/community/redapi/index.php/oauth/authorize?response_type=code......then a big hash or whatever...but it doesn't DO anything. just endlessly tries to load and remains a blank screen.
 
I'm getting something similar as well. It states it failed to authenticate with the forums, then sends me to a web page that it can't load. I did do a windows update earlier, not sure if that is connected to this error or not, though.

Right, my system also auto updated last night with a Windows "patch"

not that it means anything, but i did not have issues logging in here, just tried it. Typical Win11 install, no third party security.
 
I'm booting up some VMs now. I don't believe it's IP related as no relevant security actions are showing up on the server nor Cloudflare.
 
If you need any logs or any error messages from my end to help, just let me know how to find them and I'll paste them in or send them over. Also as an aside, RedFetch did authenticate eventually after several failed attempts, but the Launcher is still saying authentication failed.

Shouldnt run as Admin (should rarely if ever allow that) :shrug:
 
Most of us know that, but right now we are flailing around trying anything to get beyond this issue. This is a blocking issue and I hope it is #1 top priority right now.
Durangos information was correct. You shouldn't run as admin.

Redbot already said he was working on it, and was working on stuff till at least 2am (cause I was too).

While the launcher and redfetch is obviously a priority, folks can always manually download the .zip manually from the resource (already compiled) if something is odd with their windows permissions or what not
 
Logs are showing a 400 error for about 15% of requests to /community/redapi/index.php/oauth/token
The other 85% goes through fine. Still looking into it

What to expect on patch days?
When eq patches MQ has to be rebuilt. (you also have to patch EQ --- this way you avoid "Version Mismatch" issues)

once mq is built RG can build - we now have an automated system that rebuilds RG as soon as it is updated - which means our previous method of "let's give it a quick test" is no longer there, and sometimes there ends up being another smaller patch later to correct if something got missed - so re-check on patch days if you are having issues.

eq could change literally anything and it would require the way MQ interacts with that portion of EQ to be completely reworked. It is normally just offsets, sometimes struct changes --- with the large changes eq has been making over the past few months (updates and backend improvements) there are more things than just offset changes that are happening, so it can certainly be a lot of work for the devs.

EQ patches go like this: (in theory)
2nd* tue/wed = test "real" patch
3rd* wed = live patch
4th* tue/wed = test "true up

the tue over the wed is a more recent thing (I suspect klanderso has more to do with that, and having time to ensure working stuff before the weekend and upset people - klanderso is pretty awesome)
* holidays subject to cause shifts in days or even week

test is notorious for being like "oops we forgot the 'dont crash plz' file, gotta patch again", or "woops we added +1 to crashing, we meant -1", so "on paper" it is double the patches, but very frequently ends up being more than double the work (i imagine, I'm not doing the work - I'd love to learn enough at some point to help facilitate doing so, however)

Mq itself is open source and by volunteer(s) - RG which builds and distributes that is obviously paid for.

hi i have just returned to EQ after a year or 2 is there a new Launcher as i don't have MQ2

Not sure if this the correct area to post this. I tried to patch the 12/26 update and it just hangs at "Downloading the latest version" and doesn't do anything. I am going to try to reboot and see if it helps. I havent played/updated since Tuesday.
