I wonder what it takes to get an MMORPG closed down. Does it have to become unprofittable, or does it merely need to stop performing to the company's expectations? I would think the latter, but that must be a very fine line.

IMHO, the reason why Vanguard "is doing decently but not as well as we hope" is because it is virtually indistinguishable from other MMORPGs. The MMORPG market isn't like any other gaming market. E.g., normal RPGs: a true RPG fan will pick up even mediocre RPGs if he doesn't have any...
