Problem - Toons crashing from game 1 by 1...

Hey all,

So I didn't have any problems with this until yesterday or the day before, I had 40 toons logged in and running no problem.

Now I'm only attempting to run 25 toons or so (due to this issue), but it just keeps happening. They will completely drop, one by one, for no apparent reason at random times. I went away for 3 hours or so and 6 toons had crashed on me. Completely crashes out of game, not to char/server select or anything, and then I have to go into Task Manager and end the residual EQ task to get the char back in.

An error pops up every time this happens:

RaiseException crashed at address 0x113580

Then it lists where the Dump was saved and to send it to eqmule. I'm going to do that, but does anybody have any idea why this might be happening? It's driving me crazy. Thank you!

The RaiseException function enables a process to use structured exception handling to handle private, software-generated, application-defined exceptions.

Raising an exception causes the exception dispatcher to go through the following search for an exception handler:

  1. The system first attempts to notify the process's debugger, if any.
  2. If the process is not being debugged, or if the associated debugger does not handle the exception, the system attempts to locate a frame-based exception handler by searching the stack frames of the thread in which the exception occurred. The system searches the current stack frame first, then proceeds backward through preceding stack frames.
  3. If no frame-based handler can be found, or no frame-based handler handles the exception, the system makes a second attempt to notify the process's debugger.
  4. If the process is not being debugged, or if the associated debugger does not handle the exception, the system provides default handling based on the exception type. For most exceptions, the default action is to call the ExitProcess function.

Thanks for the reply.

I'm only about 10% computer literate, so I didn't understand a lot of that, but I appreciate it.

Is there a fix?

What is the dmp file named? Sometimes the name will mention a plugin that is causing the crash and you can disable it or get help with settings.

Any pattern to when it happens? Like during zoning or certain classes tend to crash more often?

It seems totally random who gets dropped and when.

When I reach a certain amount of toons logged in, the crashes stop. But that number is around 1/3rd of what I was logging in just fine a couple days ago with no significant changes made to anything.

Here's an example of a dmp file:

KERNELBASE_20200205_024440.dmp

The numbers differ, but it's always preceded by that kernelbase line. I'm completely at a loss, so any help would be extremely appreciated.

Thanks a lot. 3 more toons just crashed, so apparently I was wrong about it stopping once I've reached a certain # logged in.

@ChatWithThisName what do you make of this? Perhaps not MQ2 related? I didn't get any breaks

@ycleptjah can you try leaving all your toons online without mq2 running?

EDIT: NM, @Sic looked at it.

Can you try something other than mq2dannet and see if that fixes it?

@ycleptjah hey bud, sorry for your troubles - that sounds really frustrating
I msg'd Redbot so we could take a peak at your dmps

It looks like Dannet is picking up the dmps (doesn't mean they're causing it), but its possible that unloading dannet would resolve your issue temporarily.

I'm going to forward these dmps to @Knightly who is much more knowledgable about dannet and dmps and he might be able to give us an indication on *what* and *why*

Edit: Also by chance do you happen to use Kaspersky? There is a known issue with Kaspersky closing sockets which causes dannet to be unhappy (Knightly could explain this better)

(thanks Knightly)

I have the same issues with DanNet, but the dump files are KERNELBASE as well and the name doesn't show DanNet, but turning off DanNet stops me from crashing.

Hey thanks a lot for the help guys, I really appreciate it. I've unloaded Dannet, I don't really use it, I just use EQBC. I'll see if that resolves the issues. Anything else I should do for now?

Unloading DanNet should fix your issue since you're not using it. What operating system do you use (ie, Windows 10)?

And @ctaylor22 what OS do you use?

I was getting similar crashes when dannet was loaded. I'm also on Windows 10.

I don't have time this week, but I would like to send you a test next week for Win10 and you can let me know if you still have the issue.

Not trying to be a hater or anything... but why would someone play 40 toons? Maybe I’m just clueless

Dannet unloaded, zero crashes in ~4 hours...so fingers crossed that did the trick. I don't use Dannet so it's not a big loss...is there a way to keep it unloaded permanently?

Also @wymranar my end-goal is to do some raiding with my toons, unfortunately I'm too much of a scrub to program MQ2Events to allow for it, so right now I just do a bunch of random stuff with em.

Thank you all a ton! Awesome support here, I appreciate it, lost without it.

Bump, having more crashing issues.

Now it seems to happen far more often upon zoning. Maybe 10% of the time, a toon will crash when it zones. But still happens randomly on random toons from time to time. Dannet unloaded on all toons.

Anyone able to read the dmps if I send them? Or have experience with a similar issue?

I do not run anywhere near what you run @ycleptjah , but I do have a brand new heroic Beastlord that I use with MQ2Bst and constantly crashes the same way you have described. It stays on for a few hours, sometimes less, and crashes out. I only run 7 characters on that computer, EQBC, Win 10. I am curious if your issue is with a LOT more characters and a beefier system, but that others of us may be having on a smaller scale. Curious to hear what @Knightly and our fine VV staff can come up with.

This would probably be one for @Sic or @ChatWithThisName

You can PM a dump on discord and i can take a peak -especially if it is an mq2bst crash

We've been seeing a larger than usual volume of eqgame crashes without anything in the call stack that I can do anything with - If you are getting eqgame or kernelbase dumps, you should e-mail them to [email protected] like the little error pop-up mentions.

I always suggest ensuring you are fully patched, both windows/drivers/etc and everquest and mq2 - you have unloaded any plugins that are either known trouble makes or things you don't use (mq2debuffs, mq2labels etc)

Make sure you're using the most updated copy of the plugins. Last update I'm seeing for live was posted in discord today at about 8:20pm Central Standard Time. If you get new crash dumps after updating to the most updated version you can send them and I'd be willing to look at them.

@Sic if I get a DMP I'll send it appropriately, thanks. For what you mentioned about unloading some plugins, I saw above about also unloading Dannet for @ycleptjah issue, I was going to try that too, but as a general, how do I unload all the things I don;t need, is it simply /plugin MQ2xxx unload ? Also, with the old loader, we used to only load things we had checkboxed for startup, is everything now fully loaded and we unload what we don;t need? I'll admit I'm a little lost as to what I need to run MQ2 the way it runs for me, versus removing ones I don;t know if its running under the hood. Any help to explain, I'm willing to run through and test.

You can do /bcaa //plugin MQ2xxx unload to unload something on all your toons at once (assuming you have EQBC going).

I'll try out some of these suggestions, now that I think about it, it does seem to be toons running your plugin that crash, @ChatWithThisName . I'll try updating and send the dmps over to you if all else fails.

In game "/plugin list" will tell you what's active. "/plugin mq2whatever" will toggle load/unload or you can use the load or unload added to the command.

You can also see what MQ2 is loading in your MacroQuest.ini in the Release folder. That's kind of like the old checkbox system.

If it is dannet, let knightly know. He's been tracking down any crashes in that plugin.

mq2twist is the other one that will random crash me on bards. It's pretty rare, but it's always bards running it.

I have seen in the past occasionally, depending on what the game is doing at the time (eg especially while zoning), when a connection drops instead of going back to character select (or even back to login with login can’t be validated notice) the client just crashes. The other clients keep on going if the network problem is socket related rather than just blanket packet lose. With 40 clients running around doing things, zoning, etc is it possible your router’s NAT table is getting full and glitching? Especially if you are doing other things on the internet at the same time like any kind of P2P.
