Some of the questions asked from new comers:
1. I have 1-X number of toons, what should I do? ~Its commonly said that once you start using Red Guides, that there's no real difference between playing 1 or 6 toons. The learning curve depends on if you use KissAssist (free), RG Mercs
Lua (free), or the class plugins (paid).
2. Group Make-up? ~Ultimately, whatever you find fun to play, whether thats 6 Necros or a random group. It being fun is the point you should focus on. Tradition wisdom is 1 tank (War, SK, Pal), 1 healer (Cle, Shm, druid) and 1 crowd control (bard (usually with mellee groups) enchanter (usually with caster groups). The last three spots are dps. No real difference in group content. Ok, there is, but none worth diving into. I prefer bard, because at 110 you get an AA that gives you IVU and Invis at the same time. Moving around zones becomes trivial.
3. How do I access all the madness? ~You can buy redcents, purchase a year long subscription to redguides, participate in the forums and earn redcents. It cost 50 redcents for a month of access. Ever redcent you recieve from a post gives you 10 redcents. Every post you give a redcent to gives you 1 redcent and I believe its 4 per 24 hour period. Depending on your level of interest in being interactive with the redguides community will depict whether buying redcent or redguides subscription, or participating in the forums.
4. Which should I use,
KissAssist,
RG Merc-Lua or the
Class Plugins. ~All three are viable options. Depends on your interest. KissAssist and RG Merc's
Lua comes with the level 2 access (I beleive) and are free to use. KissAssist requires you to get/maintain the .ini files for each toon you have. RG Mercs
Lua gets the job done right out of the box (needs to be run on each toon) and then you modify it to suit your needs and playstyel. The Class Plugins each cost $30 (or $35, i forget) and is good for 1 year. If you purchase a class plugin, you only need one for that class, then you get access to it from all 257.45 accounts you have that have toons of that class.
5. I want to see what the Class Plugins can do for me? ~If you want to give them a trial, either move your toons to Test Server /copytest, or create toons on each account on Test and then /testbuff to get them to level 25 with appropriate gear, spells, abilities, etc. The class plugins are free to use on the Test Server. If you decide you like them, then you can purchase them for your live server playing, or stay on the Test Server and use them for free.
6. How do I load up the Test Server?
~For your EQ installations, in the upper left is Version: Live, click Live, a dialoguq box will pop up from the bottom, In the middle SELECT GAME VERSION and change to Test. Your client will do an update and say Version Test, instead of live.
~For your RedGuides Launcher, In the upper right corner is a drop down box that has MacroQuest - Test, MacroQuest - Live, and Emu Servers. change it to the one you are going to be playing in. You only need 1 install of Macroquest/RedGuides Launcher to rule them all.
7. What if I have a question about XYZ? ~Searching the forums for answers is your first stop. If you can't get yourself sorted, then ask the questions. If you have a question, make sure you have it in the right forum (Or
@Sic is gonna be mean to you *grins*) and if its about an automation, make sure you say which it is, and give relevant details about what you want to know/ask about. Generic, vague questions, or showing you haven't done any research yourself, is gonna get you the like response. Folks can't try to help other folks, if they can't read your question and articulate what the situation is you want/need help with.
And my usual (canned) drivel to new players:
Welcome aboard. The journey is made fun with the help of the folks here at RedGuides and the assisted game play they've made available. It's a very helpful and welcoming group of folks that like to have fun. It's really increased my enjoyment of the game. Not having to continually mash buttons is wonderful. RG makes the game so much more. As you take the months to get used to whatever version of RG you decide to use (RG Mercs
Lua, KissAssist, or the Class specific plugins (paid per year)), you'll enjoy the game more and more. It really does take alot of the tedious out of the game.
A few tidbits:
1 - The Ice Encrusted (level 110+), Blood-Soaked (level 115+), Memoryforged Desolation (120+) chase loot items, and Ancient Cloak of Flames (and other chase loot items) can be made tradable again by placing the item into an Urthron's Ultimate Unattuner bought from the Alerynril the Loyal (loyalty vendor) or a mysterious presence (overseer merchant) in Plane of Knowledge. Trade them among your toons for the upgraded AA click, and when/if you outgrow them, resell them.
2 - Overseer Collection Item Dispenser reward from Diplomacy, Trade, and Exploration quests can be used to make No Trade collection items up to Terror of Luclin. The No Trade collection items are Heirloom and can be traded on the same account. You can also put the No Trade collection items in an Urthron's Ultimate Unattuner to make it tradable to anyone. Nice if you are missing one collection item from a set to help complete it.
Something you'll read and hear is to start small and grow into it. I tried jumping into the deep and almost drowned. Was too much for me. I waddled my way back to the shallow end and into the kiddie pool. MUCH better for me. Your mileage may very.
Welcome aboard matey!!
