Contest May '20 Contest: What's your 6-box crew for the original Norrath? (1 Viewer)

Not open for further replies.
I would rock my original crew - horribly unoptimized!
Halfling druid - I played a few months before I knew there were zones outside of Rivervale, Misty Thicket, and Runnyeye!
Troll warrior - We all loved slower exp!
Barbarian Shaman - That run back home was always awesome!
High Elf Enchanter - Another long haul back home. But those High Elves always looked good!
Gnome Mage - Small, bald. What's not to love!
Open slot for your friend and you only had room for 3 monitors with the KVM!

I started playing sharing an account with my two brothers, we played mostly dwarves and halflings (which is funny because we are 6'5", 6'8", and 6'9" respectively, now) but I always loved the Mage because I love pets.
I'm going to go with:
Dwarf Cleric
Dwarf Warrior
Halfling Rogue
Halfling Druid
Human Mage
Human Enchanter

Bonus question:
Let's say your priority is raiding with a guild, what's your 6 box group?
Missed this as well. I wouldn't change a thing for raiding:
Dwarf - Paladin
Dwarf - Cleric
Half Elf - Bard
Dark Elf - Rogue
Dark Elf - Rogue
Human - Monk

Dark Elf - Warrior
Dark Elf - Cleric
Dark Elf - Enchanter
Dark Elf - Wizard
Dark Elf - Wizard
Dark Elf - Wizard

With this setup I can be sure that Origin gets them all in the same general area. Close to Commonlands and Freeport which is a hub for trading. All characters except for the cleric are Agnostics

I would try to get the most content down the safest, not necessarily the highest DPS.

Ogre Warrior
High Elf Cleric
Gnome Enchanter
Erudite Wizard
Erudite Mag
Iksar/Erudite Necro

Holy trinity
Wizard for Ports (original EQ without ports was horrible)
Magician for COTH
Necro for Corpse summon (that was a PITA when you lost gear)

Also races were important back then.

CoTH was not introduced until Velious IIRC so you might need to be DQ'd for your explanation.

HE Paladin
HE Enchanter
Ogre Shadow Knight
WE Druid
Troll Shaman
Halfling Rogue

Paladin as a backup tank and good for killing undead, yes even back then they were adept at it
Enchanter for haste and CC
Shadow Knight for MT and pulling
Druid for healing and porting
Shaman for buffs, dots and backup heals
Rogue for dps and opening those pesky locked doors (once Kunark goes live)
No cleric you say. Back in original EQ I feel that druids were nearly as good as a cleric with heals so all I am losing is the rez, but paladin rez would suffice if needed

First -- to those saying iksar, sorry there's no iksar at launch!
Second --
Ogre SK (only because no iksar!)
Troll Shaman (only because no iksar!)
Human Monk (only because no iksar!)
Dark Elf Necro (only because no iksar!)
Evil Erudite Cleric (the best cleric)
High Elf Enchanter (why the hell are you here)

Original EQ has to be based on the holy trinity so;

Gnome warrior (dungeon's were hell with no shrink)
Dark elf cleric
Erudite enchanter (bring on the big forehead)
Human monk (original split puller)
Erudite wizard (for travel and Ice Comet madness!)
Halfling rogue (dragging those damn corpses and getting through locked doors!)

Roleplay Group:

Dark Elf Shadow Knight

Dark Elf Cleric

Dark Elf Enchanter

Dark Elf Magician

Dark Elf Necromancer

Dark Elf Wizard

Ultravision, Sex Appeal and Attitude

Will view all other races as inferior and chattel for our nefarious machinations. Ogres and Trolls will be tolerated more than others as dumb slaves to further our plans to rule… but only barely. All hail the Lord of Hate, Innoruuk! Misery and Death to all others, particularly the elves above.

Bonus Question for Raid (still role playing):

Ogre Warrior

Dark Elf Cleric

Dark Elf Cleric

Dark Elf Cleric

Troll Shaman

Half-elf Bard (will pretend he is half dark-elf, just light skinned) - Neutral Race

I would use this group as the MT group for the raid, Clerics on CHeal rotations with shaman and mana pumping to keep them going. Setting up the CHEAL rotation myself will help ensure no missed button smashing.

Barbarian Warrior - cause I am a Kilt wearer
Female Barbarian Shaman - just gota look at one to see why lol
Barbarian Rogue-- cause im a Kilt wearer and no zerker available at start
Female barbarian beast - just gota look at one to see why lol
Wood elf cleric --- cause wood elfs are cool
wood elf bard -- see above..

For raid everyone love healers.

would probably run 6 half elf Druid. This was back in the days when isboxer didn’t exist yet so my group tend to be monolithic.

I’d stick to all the same race to have the same starting city. I remember the low level transportation challenges of classic. Gnome or Dark Elf depending on mood at character creation.

Warrior, cleric, enchanter because the Holy Trinity remains valid. Wizard for transportation, Mage for off tan, dps, and summoning because cash is tight. Necromancer to round out the crew.

I would go with my original group I still use on occasions:

Human Paladin
Dwarf Cleric
High elf Enchanter
Barbarian Shaman
Dark elf Wizard
Gnome Rogue

For 6 box Group in Original Norrath
Barbarian - WAR
Barbarian - SHM
Human - MNK
Dark Elf - NEC
Dark Elf - NEC
Dark Elf - ROG

For Raiding Original Norrath.
Barbarian - SHM
Wood Elf - BRD
Human - MNK
Human - MNK
Human - MNK
Human - MNK

Gnome SK
Gnome Cleric
Gnome Chanter
Wood Elf Druid
Wood elf Rogue
High Elf Mage

Same Continent, Quick and easy running to form group makeup, and not Kos

Normal Group:

Dark Elf: Warrior
Dark Elf: Cleric
Dark Elf: Wizard
Dark Elf: Magex2
Dark Elf: Chanter
I love Dark elves!+Starting together is a good thing. Ive always loved having the warrior cleric combo with a bunch of DPS and a chanter. Wizzy for ports or that would just be another mage!!

BONUS Raid group:

Ogre: Warrior (Stun Resist and Ogre warriors look awesome!)
Ogre: Shaman (Raid Buffs)
Gnome: Chanter (cuz chanter duh)
Gnome: Wizzy (Deeps/Ports)
Dark Elf: Necro (every Raid needs a Necro!)
Dark Elf: Mage(CoTH!!!/DPS)

I tried to price that map on ebay but couldn't find any, even in "completed listings"

I tried to price that map on ebay but couldn't find any, even in "completed listings"
It's probably "priceless" meaning there is no market for something that is 20+ years old and may be the only known copy in circulation. All others may be rotting in a box in an attic, or in a dumpster/landfill, or on the wall of someone like me who has been playing since the beginning.

The banner above is from the 2003(?) FanFaire in San Francisco. There was 1 per server, 1 per class, all given out via silent auction. I saw them all go to recipients, but I've never met any of them since that day.

Half elf druid - DPS/Ports/spot heals
Dark Elf Warrior - Tank
Dark Elf Cleric - Heals
Dark Elf Enchanter - Mez/Slow
Dark Elf Rogue - Melee DPS/scout
Dark Elf Mage - Pet/DPS/CoTH

The druid, warrior and enchanter, I currently play, and the druid I have played since 2000. The other 3 exist, but my system won't handle more than 3 at a time.

Viirus Steelhart
Drinal

Dark Elf - Shadow Knight - Mad Aggroe, DPS, and with gear could take a punch (To this day still my tank)
Dark Elf - Cleric - She was hot and sexy
Dark Elf - Enchanter - Again Mesmerizing Hotness, Oh and she could do Breeze
Dark Elf - Wizard - She could help my team get around (back when porting was a thing) and was a great instant DPS.
Dark Elf - Mage - Hello pet and the toys to give other people. Remember when you would wipe a raid and get mage armor to go back on corpse runs. LOL
Dark Elf - Rogue - Ok so who doesn't want to be a pseudo-Drizzt Do'urden (Ok I know he is a fighter/ranger but couldn't do that in EQ)

Currently I am playing the majority of these toons and all but 1 are 115 with max AA. The wizard has only reached 112. LOL need to get him those extra 3 levels.

I thought about Bard over enchanter as well. I mean, we all liked Bard's well enough... but then I went with the safe option.

In classic, do-over EQ, bards suck balls. Bards don't come into their own until PoP (imo... that's when they got Fade and broke EQ by kiting entire zones for exp).

My classic EQ group would be:
Ogre Warrior (or SK... frontal stun immunity, ftw)
High Elf Cleric (female... sexy)
Erudite Mage (because that's what my first character was)
Dark Elf Chanter (because chanters are fuckin BOMB in classic EQ)
Wood Elf Ranger (because snare + SoW)
Human Monk (because monks are OP in early EQ)

Honestly, I'd strongly consider dropping the ranger for a wizard... ports + snare.... but that's up in the air.

@Sum1 Hmm, I'm liking he ranger over druid idea. I think I'd do that for a bit more balanced DPS.

I know Bard is sub-optimal but was certainly interesting in terms of just being different. I have a bit of a soft spot because I played a bard up to level 20 prior to creating a Rogue.

"original" EQ 6 man crew, 6 necros.

Originally lifetaps were unresistable. Which means level 6-10 groups could take down level 30ish sand giants in Oasis with some creative kiting and staying on your toes when they switched targets.

But since we are talking about box crews.

Necro
Mage
Ranger
Cleric
Tank(any of the three)
Shaman

Necro and Mage give back up tanks, which is why the player tank isn't as important. Player tank because they do better at taunting and of course pathing.

Use the necro to pull and DPS (depending on zone, can load up the mob on incoming)

It's not a high DPS group but it's a solid one that gets the job done.

Dark Elf Warrior
Dwarf Cleric
Gnome Enchanter
Wood Elf Druid
Human Monk
Human Monk

I have played since launch and picked some of my favorite class combos/ looks from when I played through classic.

Gnome SK
Gnome Enchanter
Dark Elf Mage
Gnome Cleric
Gnome Rogue
Barbarian Shaman

The Barb and DE are the females. :)
