The question you have to ask yourself is it fun enough to pay $10 a month to help find bugs for them or fun enough that you can afford to through $10 away on something that they could have done to live to make it more "FUN"

you know if you consider what everything cost in 1999 to what it cost today MMO subscriptions really havent gone up at the same rate. Whats $10 one less starbucks a month ?

Had a great time playing this so far in beta. Still playing EQ Live so not going as hard as i'd like until the official release. If i get 2-3 months out of it i'll be happy. This will keep me entertained until its almost time for beta of the next EQ expansion. Then i'll jump back to Legends when Kunark comes out

Code:
I logged into EQL and I was shocked and what I saw, which I thought would be impossible to do in Everquest.

1) Floating damage - What! How come! I know people will say, "Well in Live EQ its just too much text" You could just have an option to sum the entire round into 1 number, just show the total for each combat round etc, there are ways to reduce spam. The fact they did it, crazy!
2) Built in Modern UI frame options - WHA?!? Why not us?!?!
3) Old Models can ride horses - WHA? I thought they said we just can't they don't have enough skeletons in the model - Well apparently you can add skeletons to a model?!?! I prefer old models to the luclin models, the problem is old models on Live look stupid on mounts, their helmets don't stay on, the robes just vanish, but I guess in EQL those things are not issues?!!?
4) Rituals - There was a thread about what benefits a persona should provide if you level one up. Well, EQL figured it out, Rituals. Long term buffs or some ports, maybe stuff like Invis and lev, etc.
5) Pet inventory - OH MY GOD, a pet inventory window, which I think EQ said was impossible at some point
6) Dungeon difficulty and increased EXP - Wow
7) The color of the mob's name matches the consider
8) The MAP - It has multiple layouts and can function like a minimap and tracking shows up on the map!!!!

I can go on and on, but it's insane what that team does. But hey, our team got us 2 extra shared bank account slots - so yah.

They are going to get new items new spells everything. We get the same items, same spells and same AA's every expansion. There hasn't been a real effort into putting together an expansion since the burning lands. They just rely on the art time to try and make everything look as nice as the code will allow and everyone else works in the copy and paste department

1. Grimmier has that.
2. Kaen/Sic and Grim's
3. Brainiac or Knightly plugin for EMU (live has it now right?)
5. RF has it.
6. I do like this idea as a choice
7. MQ
8. Hahaha.

Whats $10 one less starbucks a month ?

Whats one less trip to the gas station, or even one less milk (or beer) a month. That is not what I see. Most of us here wouldn't even batt an eye at $10 for what we have spent on EQ. New content, price of having 6 or more accounts, what's $10 dollars more or less. (Flashes a few Hamiltons as well as some Jacksons and maybe throw in a few Lincolns) My point is why spend the cash on content that is already in use and how come they can't add this stuff to what is alread there.

If we don't play on EQL then it might fade away and all that new stuff will hit EQ. Think about it this way, if EQL is so wonderful and has all the new bells and whistle and they keep adding new content (that You have to pay for) what is going to happen to EQ. No more new stuff, no more bug fixes, and folks leaving so its not making any money for them.

So it comes down to this : 1. Stay with EQ and bug them about adding new stuff. 2. (got to have a 2 if you have a 1) Forget EQ and jump feet first into EQL. 3. Try to play both.

I don't really care about EQL, didn't really try THJ. I've seen enough of it though to know it's not really my cup of tea. I think a lot of people will enjoy it in the short term. May even be several years of EQL and hype. But let's be honest, original EQ has survived through WoW, all the new mmo releases that are super hyped up where everyone's got the new car smell, EQ still standing, pumping sales, people coming back to it on and off yada yada. So I don't think this is going to be any different. It'll probably just be an addition to the game, some people can fully casualize out on it and have a great time. Other people will retain on regular EQ after that new car smell wears off. That seems to be the typical cycle that goes on.

There's always a new sky is falling moment for EQ that comes and goes. Last I checked the sky is still up there :P. Aside from that though, I'm sure it'll be a solid addition to their portfolio. Believe it or not EQ2 still has a player base that people fuck with heavily. I got a few friends over there it's pretty surprising. Never once did I touch it lol

Has anyone played a Shaman in Beta? Do they get a real pet on Legends since it's more solo based?
Shaman pet is decent compared to live, it was nice to have up as extra DPS and pets in EQL cast class specific spells (Harm touch, Slow, Dots, etc).
One problem is the max level pet likes to cast the lowest dot sometimes which is kind of annoying. They also pull threat very easily. I struggled in the hole pulling 2+ mobs without the pet just getting instant aggro and dying. Nice for solo kills for sure.

Thank you.

In several of their promotional/dev videos they also discussed RMT and how some design choices were driven by a desire to curb it. Yet they have Rogean on staff…

Reading through all the lovely positive and negative feedback on this game leaves me feeling like staying away is the right move.
You kids have fun! :)

  • Economy and No Trade Loot - There is no economy. The only thing worth selling/buying would be the global items called Motes. These drop in tiers of 1 through 10 and can be used to directly feed experience into items and spells. These are tradeable and would be likely be the primary in game currency for trading
I heard through discord that these being tradable was actually an oversight and they will be no trade when game launches. Somehow no economy got even worse.

I don’t get why they thought imposing zero economy on everyone was a good idea. Optional SSF mode would have been way better, but gotta fight that RMT boogie man I guess.

no.

there are no plans at RG to offer anything for eqlegends
That's a shame, I was only back to EQ waiting for Legends to start...

Was hoping this would be available for Legends, as i think its subscription base is far higher than regular EQ subscriptions now.... The had over 70k Beta subscriptions, and i'm sure that will go far higher in regular release.

EQ currently holds only around 64-66k paid subscribers, and i expect that will drop precipitously this month, with a lot of people moving to Legends exclusively.

What you are saying is EQ just killed itself for a clone like version of itself. Legends beta is nothing about how the version will hold itself even 1 month after release. The concept of EQ players excited for something new, I can understand, but to drop EQ for a potential easier (in a way of playing) and still not fully known pay to win little odds and ends would not retain players. EQ, while not as powerful as they once were, has survived 2 decades of of competition in their arena and still standing. Legends is not yet known to hold sway, for those excited for it, I truly hope the best.

Would like to know where these counts came from? All I could find was half that for beta and those were all given away and never have know EQ to release how many paid subscribers they have.

Saw a youtube with real numbers. Dunno where the numbers come from and how accurate they are, but tldr, Legends did not cannibalize Live, TLP, or EMU players. It appears to have sucked some older players back into the ecosystem. Maybe Daybreak can have it's cake and eat it too?!? Again, I know nothing concrete, just a video on the tube.

My cousin told me

I won't tell you which one, because then you could ask him for his sources, and that's not how this works.

I think he read it on the internet though, so we are fine.

many folks are of the opinion that legends is a "cool to check out for a short-term, but not a good daily driver".

eq1 folks like eq1 and even if they go check out other things many of them come back / stick around.
