Question - To cleric or not to cleric

Ive been grinding away with multiple groups but have always always just used a cleric merc in those groups. Mainly because before I ended up using MQ I used a cleric merc to do ALL progression in the last 4 expansions and know how they work. Would it be better to retire those cleric mercs for a real cleric?

I started running a cleric in my group probably a month month and a half ago, and that boxed cleric is a beast, way undergeared,m but heals like a beast. I would highly recommend it.

What eqholic says, autocleric= a win....I havent tried KA on my cleric, but if definately isnt broken so im damned sure not fixing it..auto cleric owns

I have to agree with all of the above, I added 3 raid clerics to my list, even if they aren't in the group I pop a healer merc on them and let them heal. Every group should have a cleric and a bard in my opinion.

So, how do shamans stack up for healing? Are they viable for healing EoK stuff? I have been using a cleric merc and was going to eventually add a cleric instead but after seeing some shaman dot damage I am wondering if a shaman for even more dps and the healing wouldnt be better

Shaman does fine for healing, biggest 2 things you miss is the cleric buff which can be replaced by a merc every 2-3 hours and the cleric aura thing that increases base HP of the group.

I main a shaman for raiding so I use it for my groups. Currently sitting at a 5 box instead of a 6 box so I have a cleric merc up so I don't have to worry about buff timers. If you're strictly going to be group based I would recommend a cleric + chanter over a shaman for MQ purposes. I love the shaman to death, but I've been tempted to roll a cleric bot just because of how amazing they are for a group geared tank to smash through the harder group content.

Shaman dps is pretty awesome as it stands. Heals are solid and are fine for general farming with a group geared tank. The harder encounters of EoK you will likely struggle with. That said, keep in mind my experience is with a sk group geared tank that could be optimized better. If you have a warrior that EoK t2 geared + current on at least group aug slots you will likely fare a bit better than my experience. Same if you have a really solid dps group. My dps is solid, but it's not a high powered dps group.

I ditched my shm a long time ago. Clr hands down the better option for healing. Shm utility is nice and all but roll a bst or something.

When you are referring to it being a struggle, do you mean nameds or some actual trash mobs? If its just nameds, I could drop a dps out of group and pop up a cleric merc to help heal for the one fight then go back to farming.

If clerics are truly that good though, I may have to work up my cleric instead :(

I cant believe no one mentioned DI or battle rezes. Go fill a bag with emeralds and keep DI up at all times.

Shining bulwark, aura of the reverent, aura of devotion are all amazing buffs a real cleric will keep up that a merc does not.

A real cleric will also pop AA abilities.

A real cleric does way better than my old method of drop a dps and pop 2 mercs.

BTW when i say real cleric i mean a cleric run by autocleric.

Clerics are awesome. A boxed cleric with Autocleric or MQ2Heals > any # of cleric mercs in a group. If you have a caster DPS group, consider a druid for extra ADPS. You can get away with it, especially if you're good with your tank, and extra ADPS rules. If you're melee heavy, you could roll a shaman instead. MQ2Heals supports all 3 classes, but I don't know how the shaman performance is. I personally just use the cleric and/or druid.

Personally, using autocleric, ive almost quit logging my shammy in entirely, I hate that as I love the toon, but autocleric is so out of the world its just not even funny....I dont want to compare it to a real life cleric, but honestly I definately dont want to try and compare a real person healing to my autocleric....my cleric is sitting at 105 in reign of fear tier 1 armor....never runs out of mana, and keeps my tank alive like it was nothing. and im still gearing my tank, almost full t1 now.....

Struggle as in Atrebe mission can suck a massive dick and die in a fire. Outside of that mission I have no issues healing as a raid geared shaman. Not having Suriety makes a huge difference though, hence why I said keeping the buff up. So long as you keep your tank buffed w/ cleric merc buffs you should be fine. But as has been mentioned here, having a cleric will let you kill content quite a bit easier than a shaman because of how much better the cleric is at making your tank more survivable let alone heals.

ka and autocleric are both fantastic for cle. i'm a big fan. that being said, i've forgotten to turn my cle on before and shm running KA kept me up for hours before i realized anything was amiss. ka is powa! get yourself and eok heal proc item and turn melee attacks on in ka for your healers for laughs and more healing!

My main play group runs with both a shaman and a cleric, (I know I run some redundancies), but it is how I like to play.

I use MQ2Heals by jimbob all the time on both shaman and cleric, mind I play with the settings so the cleric does most (all) of the healing. But when it fist came out there was a time that for some reason, it didn't have the cleric healing...mind that problem was quickly fixed once it was figured out... however, took me a few days to figure it out because my shaman was doing a slammin job of healing my group, I figured it out watching the DPS meter...shaman wasn't doing much dps anymore because he was always healing.

This was in TBM when TBM was current (don't have EOK yet) so I would say a properly set group could easily run with a shaman as a healer (good tank and CC) but if he is the main healer, don't expect a lot of dps or other combat buffs, he may not have the time.
