Problem - RGMercs Not Working? 🤷‍♂️

Ok, I've only ever played casters in EQ, unless you count the dalliance with my Shadowknight that I haven't touched in 17 years. But I knew I needed a Rogue to pick locks for a lot of older content I wanted to sail through and/or farm for alts when bored. Being a know-nothing regarding melee toons, I made a Level 1 Gnome Rogue (Poisonmaking/Tinkering, my last 2 missing Tradeskills), used a Heroic 100 on him, got him into my Auto Login group, and used /rgstart.

It properly detected his class and everything, looked like it loaded the script fine...but he does nothing. Literally. In fact, I had to set DoMed=0 just so he'd stop automatically sitting down after a fight and then refuse to stand up again. Pretty disconcerting to discover your "DPS" guy not only isn't DPSing, but also sitting down so a mob dragged into the middle of camp gets some free max dmg hits in on incoming.

What am I doing wrong? rgstart, rg on, settings changes, manually making an assist social hotkey to macro, turning off "Follow Me", setting a camp radius or telling him to ChaseOn the puller...nothing changes his behavior, besides the "don't get your dumbass killed because you're trying to meditate in front of a mob that's set you as Rampage target" setting of DoMed=0. Assist is properly set (at least, the right name shows up in green with "Assist SirDonkey at 98" line.

What step am I missing? I thought the whole point of this was a fire-and-forget system that could at least handle basic heal/DP out of the box. If there's a screw-up somewhere in the works, I find it much more plausible that I'm the source of it. Just need to find out how I broke it.

You don't have to set the main tank/ main assist from a macro you can do it by right clicking on the.group member. I would set my main tank and main assist then start RGMERCS on everyone.

There is always the option of rolling a real tank which you will need for the toughest group missions and content. Pally is good with caster groups because he can heal himself partially. I ran my Pally with a pet group.

You can use either the macro /rgstart, or the Lua version of rgmercs /Lua run rgmercs. You'll want to make sure that your tank or whoever you're wanting your rogue to assist is set as main tank/main assist and have your rogue target them before submitting the command to start the macro. You'll see a confirmation once the macro is finished loading of who your main assist is. If you're using the Lua, you can change the main assist from the [RGMercsMain] tab while you have that character targeted.

Hang in there. It's a learning curve for all of us. I've been boxing full time for 2 1/2 years and I still learn new things all the time. And ask your questions here always. The folks here are genuinely good and will help if they can.

I run DanNet hotkey
/dgza /Lua run rgmercs ${Me.CleanName} (all toons in zone run rgmers and assist me)
or
/Lua run rgmercs TanksName (individual if you want to set an assist.)

As mentioned above, the rgmercs Lua is the new (and better supported) tool that you should consider using if you haven't.

If you are using the macro, I suggest deleting the char ini file for the rog and follow this procedure
  1. Create group
  2. Set main tank/main assist (can not have merc as main assist, needs to be some pc)
  3. /rgstart on the rog (new default ini will be created for rog)
  4. Change nothing else
  5. Rog should assist when MA has mob targeted and mob is<98% and <100 distance from rog
  6. Can change /rg domed 0 if you don't like him sitting
\rg camphere if using static camp
\rg chase <name of dude to chase> for moving

All the default settings should work for 99% of normal group activities.
The only defaults that I typically change (personal preference just to make melee a little less obviously botted) are
\rg stickhow loose
\rg chasedistance <num between 30-80>

Edit: Also, just in case, be very sure that no other automation is running on rog.

Thanks; still staggering around here like a sailor on his first shore leave, trying to guess what goes where. Next time I'll spend more time burrowing through the threads to see if I can splice a question into the right area. 👍

Edit: Yep, it's as I surmised. RGMercs wasn't broken, I was. Routing the call through Lua made all the difference. Now my Rogue isn't just engaging automatically, he's out-DPSing everyone else in the group, and that includes spells + pet(s). Thanks again, guys! RGMercs is running that toon on auto better than I ever did manually. Maybe later on I'll play around with him solo and try to figure out his different abilities, but right now I just needed a 6th group member + his Pick Lock skill and race/class tradeskill capabilities; the DPS is just icing on the cake. Makes XPing a lot easier with him added into the mix.

Next: I turn over the Cleric to full auto so I don't have to constantly watch HP bars. If I keep running into named critters at 100-105 that randomly drop aggro from the one pet that's set to /taunt and summons one of my squishy casters as a chew-toy, I can't afford to manual the healing. Bot would be a LOT more efficient, and I wouldn't have to rez someone every time I run into Iremaw or Pyrebeak. :f5:
