I understand and respect your decision.

Having said that, and I'm asking this is a person who now has to decide whether or not to explore life on an emulated server, what about the increasing risk of those servers being shut down by successful litigation just like THJ? There isn't much incentive to start over on an emulated server if the company that is increasingly hostile toward macroquest is also increasingly hostile toward emulated servers.

The only reason they would ever go after an emu server is if it started competing with their own servers. THJ was making a good bit of money, and it had more people in their discord than the actual DBG EverQuest discord. That being said, I personally have no interest in Emulator servers, even though I'm sure they are much better than they used to be. I did used to play on Project EQ a lot back around 2011, I played P99 a bit, but not much, a long time ago. Once they started releasing TLPs I never went back to Emulator servers.

As for the detection methods making it harder on us, I always thought they could always detect it, they just pick and choose who gets away with it. They have to throw out arbitrary bans/suspensions to make it look like they are doing something. They very rarely would ever throw out a perma ban, it's always a suspension for the most part these days because they know they can't lose people with how many subs they have.

Who knows, maybe MQ really has been doing a good job of protecting me, I haven't had any issues with suspensions or bans for it. Since back in 2016 when I drew a bit too much attention to myself.

When people talk about E3, they typically mean E3N. Its not a spinoff of MQ of any sort. Its an automation suite just like KissAssist... just not offered here at RG. It uses ini based configuration just like KA and its very capable. If you know what files you need from Rekka's package, you can run it using VV MQ like I do. This allows me to seamlessly switch between E3N and RGMercs as well as use other tools found at RG. I am hoping with the focus on emulation, Rekka and Redbot will soon become great friends and E3N will be offered here and available via Redfetch.

This thread is largely a collection of misconceptions about emu being some low quality bullshit that Billy Bob set up in his garage for friends. While that does exist and if you want that, knock yourself out (or set that up yourself)... but the popular servers the majority of people play on are very well done, reliable, been around for many years, have a rabid fan base who play all the time, etcetera. People really need to take a look at the emu offerings available at eqemulator.org and see what is possible on emu today. The MQ dev team focusing on emu likely means even more improvements to push emu further. Feature adds are more exciting for devs than patch releases.

I used to be in the 'emu is old' camp myself. I know of one angry rooster guy who was squarely in the 'omg never emu' camp too who is now an emu enjoyer and advocate simply because he tried it and found something he liked. Lots of people around here have a similar experience. Now that the future of Live MQ is uncertain, you can self ban if you want OR if you love EQ/MQ you can take a look at emulation and maybe find happiness there. When I think about my time on live with MQ, it was awful to be honest. I hid in instances, was paranoid all the time, took extra measures to try to look 'natural' and I still lost my cleric (thanks DBG!). Now I play somewhere where MQ is the common playstyle and is openly discussed in /ooc. Its heaven.

Fun fact... The largest guild on Project Lazarus has quite a few RG members in it, we just don't advertise it here.
Do you like E3N more than KA? Last time I used E3 it was using an old version of MQ. But that was before E3N.

E3N is pretty good. Still wrapping my head around some of it. It's updated frequently, Rekka is on the E3N discord helping people out all the time.

rgmercs works incredibly well on a lot of those emu servers. I'd pick over e3n any day. I have fundamental issues with the e3 ecosystem that e3n inherited (and IMO some questionable design decisions like writing an entire C# plugin just so you can run what amounts to a macro). rgmercs is way easier to use, written in Lua (a first class supported language by us), and you get support for it from here. Algar and Derple are super active.

I think there’s an extremely vocal, small group that scream about MQ that DBG wants the illusion of trying to please. The funny thing is that the same group will readily cheat when it benefits them; IE Zaide on his podcast condemning MQ but admitting to SEQ use. People will draw arbitrary lines about what is too far, but the fact of the matter is that the majority of people violate ToS/EULA in one way or another. The same people crying about MQ will gladly account share and RMT krono/services.

EverQuest (live servers) were brought down for a scheduled patch. Here's what to expect on patchdays.
Will there be a live patch? While our priorities are shifting, the new live/test update team was able to patch test after several late nights, and are now hard at work on live.
We're happy to report that progress is good, the team is now figuring out how to handle some of the things Knightly warned us (and YOU) about. Keep checking this space!

if you wish to cancel your subscription you can manage that at redguides.com/amember

but it sounds like you aren't really up to speed
When live is updated you can talk about it > here <

lotta those dudes do/have for sure use mq - i've helped a ton of them. had one of them recently talking a bunch of toxic shit - and i went back and found all the help i gave him, and him being a member of here --- he just hit me with a "blankstare" about it

Yeah, they always have some justification for it too. Olympic level mental gymnasts, there’s a ton of misconceptions and bad faith arguments against MQ writ large in the EQ community in general.

I retract my previous statement about respecting your decision. I paid fees in advance with the expectation that those products would be supported during the subscription periods, and effective immediately you no longer intend to provide the services that I have already paid for. Please reimburse the prorated portion of fees that I paid for services on live servers that you no longer intend to support. The prorated remainder of my RedGuides subscription fee, all of my paid licenses, etc.

Don't sass the mods
I already cancelled but fees are paid at the beginning of the subscription period, not the end. That means that I have paid in advance for services on live servers that will no longer be rendered, and subsequently need to be reimbursed. When you charge for services in advance then you need to maintain an unpaid liability account on your balance sheet for services that have not yet been rendered. Charging for services, then not rendering the services, is fraud.

I will refund anyone who asks via the contact form, same as always. I'm pretty busy so it will take 7 days or so. I'm not refunding based on posts, so please use the form.

Not a good fit for the community
This isn't a volunteer effort. You charged fees for services that you no longer intend to render. That is called fraud. The amount isn't worth a lawsuit but it still pisses me off. Learn how to run a business, then fuck off and die.

imagine being so suck that you self-ban yourself from RG by telling red to fuck off and die? cant wait to see if we get a build today - I'll try and send you a postcard.

i've been told a lot of shit here over the years, but that's a new one that red got it

telling red to fuck off and die? well welcome to a very short "sic's fuck that guy list"

To be clear, we're actively working to get live to the users. We didn't just throw up our hands and go "oh well!". Please remain patient. It is intended to provide the service.

Somebody is cranky. Video game withdrawals maybe?
Yeah there's something else going on there. Regardless we're in crunch time here, everyone's working hard and ordering takeout instead of cooking. We desperately want to get a live release out. Forum drama is a huge waste of time right now so not giving it another thought.

Many many thanks for the hard work and can-do attitude.

Anyway on happier notes! There was mention early on in this process of maybe CWTN plugins gaining emu support. Is that still on the table, or shelved while we see how this new team is able to handle Live patches

i've repeated it a lot at this point.

even if/when live continues/ends, we will be releasing the cwtn plugins for emu - there's no timeline on that, but hopefully sooner rather than later.

when we have something to share about anything, we will

I’d like more information on how you plan to be involved with EQEmu.
  • Are you planning to launch a new Emu server with RG?
  • Will you create tutorials on how to connect to Emu servers?
  • Are there any plans to distribute the files needed to set up a server? (As far as I know, they’re not currently obtainable, right?)
  • Will you create a tutorial for setting up a personal server for private play?
I’d like to know your plans and overall vision.

1 - no. we've said this a lot. RG will not host an emu
2 - sure.
3 - we absolutely will not be distributing any everquest client files
4 - yep.

all of this has been answered a few times

check out this thread for more conversations and add in what you would like to see

See here is what I don't get.
If I person is going to "fuck off and die" then why would they put the effort in to learn something (lol) first?

just tryin to get a postcard.

anyhow - let's move on from all that bullshittery.

ya'll see the update @brainiac made for emu that fixes like 9000% of the crashes? that's insane
hopefully we'll have some live news soon too

good stuff

just want to thank all involved (old and new) for their time and effort they've put in. a lot of us have benefitted from the work of others.

i can say the *real* heroes here are everyone's family - they really are carrying a lot of the weight of everything.

What about the server installation files, not the EQ client?
Right now, the links seem to be broken and the files aren’t obtainable:
I put a working .bat file on their discord. It was a simple mod, I am NO expert, but it worked. Many, me included, were looking for one after things changed. I don't know if I can put it here, @Sic is that cool? In the meantime go to Discord, New Taanan, AkkStack Discussion or just look for redfrog#4994 (GRR at not having pure redfrog..haha)

i think @Algar covered it couple posts above

Not trying to be a dork, that link has all the different methods for install but the .bat for Win install still inks to Akkadius Git in 2 places, in the Installer Resources and in the .bat itself under server installation guides (kinda buried). I have never done a Docker nor Linux method yet, so might be better options that way regardless. Hope it might help.
