Title says it all. If could only play one toon ( with or without MQ ) , what would it be and why? I see lots of group questions, but this one toon to play.

Im tossed between original toon from 99, my paladin or my later toon necro. Would be hard pressed. One is nostalgic, other is just all around useful and badass :)

Depends on what you want to do. Since its one toon I would say Enchanter, Mage, Necro, Druid, Shaman or Bard. All these can solo well and do alot of stuff solo. Bards, Shaman, Enchanter and Mage will get groups easy if they are available.

Necro is super fun, I could enjoy that as solo (or with a cleric box) toon (and did for a long time)

When I first played with multiboxing toons, I read every forum post and guide available looking for the most adept solo characters. My thought process was if I could take three characters who were known for soloing on their own, alt tabbing between them and adding mercs would surely be a winner. It was okay, mostly worked as I had envisioned.

Then i found MacroQuest.

Play them both. You can play the necro when you feel mean and just want to smash stuff and then work on fixing up the paladin with better armor etc. when you just want a few hours of easy play.

Ever try a beastlord?

Beastlord, only because I always wanted to play one at higher level and never have. And even solo, MQ has so many good QoL improvements that I would still use it.

Prior to MQ, I’d have said beast.

Now I can definitively say I just wouldn’t play. When the build is down I’m reminded of the daily QOL benefits even on just 1 toon.

When I came back to EQ after an 18 year gap, I chose one class to play initially. I used to play a Ranger back in the day but this time I wanted a class I could solo on and narrowed it down to Necro, Mage or Beastlord (as I don't enjoy kiting). I chose Beastlord just because I prefer playing melee to playing a caster.

Never regretted it - though my SK is now my main.

"One Toon"

literally doesn't say it all.

how about "If you had to pick one toon and one toon only, what would it be?!"
Well, even that doesn't literally say it all

"If you had to pick one toon and one toon only, to do it all, what would it be?!"

Glad I could help clear this up.

"If you had to pick one toon and one toon only, to do it all, in EverQuest, in the current year, on a computer, from your house, from the days Sunday through Saturday, from the hours of 00:00 to 23:59 (24 hour time) - of course days are akrhually 23hr 56m 4.1s or whatnot - January through December, for enjoyment what flavor jolly rancher would you be"

There. Happy?

I'll take it. You even worked the jolly rancher angle into it. What else could there possibly be lol :xd:

I love the idea of doing SK... but it would have to be fully decked out in current Raid gear with max AA merc.
If I can't do SK or have raid gear, then Necro.
And definitely the Cinnamon Jolly Ranchers, if I run out of that, Grape.

Shaman. A well played Shaman is the best toon in the game. You can Heal, DPS, emergency crowd control. Tank to level 50. And their buffs are a must have. You can also rez, use the rez click stick and you never run out of mana with Regen and Canni. I repeat you NEVER run out of man. You can pair up with a merc tank and solo like crazy plus you give your pet Mage pet weapons and you can even melee if you choose.

Druid for nostalgia (my first toon back in ‘99)
Or
Fight between Beast, Shaman, Necro…probably beast as I like pet classes and I love the Shaman class, Beast kinda scratches both those itches.

Bard.

Rationale: A group is organized around three critical abilities, namely: tanking, healing, and crowd management. Bards can do all these things reasonably well. Sure, there are classes that can one or even two better than a Bard, but not all three. Furthermore, Bard DPS is not dependent on mana. Bards are capable of damage at a distance through kiting and charm. Bards are also capable of providing just about every utility ability you might need.

Necro. I loved the fact I could run threw dungeon(or zone), FD at favorite solo spot, wait for all the agro to drop, then kick some ass. Root rot, snare and rot, or let pet tank(usually lost agro after dots kicked in)

Ranger, he can solo everything that everyone else that can solo, and he brings lots of stuff to group and raids.

My only lvl 125 toon is a Shaman - I've moloed all the group content up to TOV and its loads of fun. The pet is good to tank TOB nameds and the dots enough to kill stuff (slowly) - plus it has FD and can make potions :)

I made a group around him (to lvl 120 only; War, Enc, Nec, Mag, Cle) but most of the time I prefer going solo or with a merc.

Honestly a really tough question....
Through most of my career it was chanter as my main and only character...... Never had an issue getting a group, and the buffs were always sought after.
Plus.... what's more fun than charm tanking!

I don't know when that method became a thing, but man it is pisspoor communication :p

Easy, it’d be…

Hey…he didn’t say it had to be a player class

One toon to play, but under what purpose? To Solo, to be a group member? On what server, Live, test, EMU, TLP all have various opportunities to play in various styles. Necro, Beastlord, Mage would be my go to for solo, MQ or not. Although, I no longer have ANY interest to play without MQ or a form of it. VV and this site changed everything for me, and I have love for KissAssist.

Similar to your experience @bigdogs175 , I would go to my 1999 paladin love, but by the 2000s (I think) I created a necro to play, I found a way to solo instead of waiting around playing LFG game... also the RP aspect was different on a necro and gave 'freedom' to be bad. The RP ended fast though with great fun to be had simply playing without having to wait for friends to get online.
