Easy way to go from Legacy -> Next?
1. download next via the RG launcher
(make sure you're installing to a new directory, NO NOT install OVER your mq2 directory)
2. hit the migrator tool (will move any configs/macros etc from old install) https://www.redguides.com/community/resources/macroquest-migrator.2156/
3. setup framelimiter https://www.redguides.com/community/threads/mqnext-framelimiter-demo.78448/
4. load mq2lua /plugin Lua
5. if you want the functionality of the MQ2 "MQ2TargetInfo"
- They are now in 3 separate plugins:
/plugin groupinfo
/plugin targetinfo
/plugin xtarinfo

mental notes:
1. mq2map click is Control+Shift+Click
2. new easyfind self travel is Control+Click (reminder in find window title bar)
3. new easyfind group travel is Control+Shift+Click
4. If you selected a destination in your zone guide and want to activate it you /travelto activate
5. /yes and /no are now aliases
6. your ini configuation files (like for kissassist) now reside in your "Config" folder and not your "Macro" folder

eqbc:
Some folks end up with eqbc issues because they are trying to run more than one eqbc server. you should not do this. you should run the new eqbcs from next - you can right click on your mq icon and left-click "Start EQBC Server". if you have an old eqbc server set to run as a windows service you will want to disable that.

Bonus points:

Nice Macroquest Next looks nice

But can I still keep my /mac Kissassist and basic features if I migrate to that ?
yup. it is still "MacroQuest" - just the new upgrade --- like windows 98 to windows 10 as an example

I migrated on Saturday as I needed to learn the new EasyFind and Lootly, and the process is simple and quick, just as @Sic has described above.

The benefits far outweigh the 20-30 minutes needed, and all my config files are still working as before - just do it. You'll love it!

If you've read this far, and still haven't installed Next....lets review the steps....

1. download next via the RG launcher (make sure you're installing to a new directory, NO NOT install OVER your mq2 directory)
EASY AND FREE

EASY AND FREE
3. setup framelimiter https://www.redguides.com/community/threads/mqnext-framelimiter-demo.78448/
PRICELESS -- it's that good (replaces MQ2EQWire and performs better)
4. load mq2lua /plugin Lua
Finally a option to macro language and has UI capability
5. if you want the functionality of the MQ2 "MQ2TargetInfo"
Quality of life UI functionality already brought over and implemented

/plugin groupinfo
/plugin targetinfo

EASY

YES!
3. new easyfind group travel is Control+Shift+Click
OMG YES!
4. If you selected a destination in your zone guide and want to activate it you /travelto activate
For you guys that like to run around a lot
5. /yes and /no are now aliases !yes and !no if you need them.
Lovely

And if you haven't, go watch Sic's video. It's quite entertaining.

Yes, thank you!! I am ready to do the migration to "The Next" soon to be the only "MQ2" I assume that the migration tool is pretty seamless and I should have no issues with it copying over all of the necessary files to the MQNext Folder?? I should just follow the video you made to get this done and up and running for the future. Have told all my friends in my Guild that, I know that use your great services, they need to get this done ASAP before there is no longer support for the "Now Old Version" of MQ2. Would this be a fair statement? After a short period of time, MQ2 of today will not be supported any longer once you and the development team decide to only support MQNext (The Only) MQ2! Would this be a fair statement that I can tell them to get off there collective asses and get this done?? Thanks again and I know that this is not where this question belongs, but I figured since I have your attention and it is basically a down and dirty question that it would be ok.

Peace and God bless!

yup using the vid guide and knightly's migrator utility should be pretty straight forward and easy to get you situated

Not entirely true, but for the most part true. eqmule still plans to develop and support MQ2. But it won't be the build that RedGuides supports so as it relates to RedGuides it's true. And there are already plugins for Next that don't exist for MQ2 as well as features for plugins that have been upgraded on Next and not back-ported to MQ2, so the only reason to keep MQ2 is...well, I can't think of a reason.

Nostalgia perhaps... LOL

Thanks @Sic ! This was the thread that finally motivated me to do the switch to Next. Easy Peezy Lemon Squeezy! Only suggestion I would have is to add a compilation of new keystrokes or commands to get to the new features like the console. You mention them in the video but it's like in one ear and out the other!

well there's not really many

/mqsettings - this opens your mq settings window

ToggleConsoleKey=ctrl+` this toggles your macroquest console (can be a macroquest.ini entry to adjust if needed)

/framelimiter -h gives you all the information for the frame limiter

/plugin lua - loads mq2lua

/lua run scriptname this runs a Lua script "scriptname.Lua"

From what I've read so far, it seems, and I may be wrong that mq next is the next iteration of mq2. Would I be better served (since I have not started yet) by going direct to next, as opposed to learning the very vanilla compile? Or am I totally misreading the situation entirely. I'm not quite needing the grandkids to program the VCR old, but also would not want to learn one whole build, just to have it become defunct a month later. Guess I learned my lesson getting into DOGE at the ceiling.

yup, "next" is just the next major version think of it like windows 98 -> windows 10.

you can currently already do MQ Next on the Red Guides Launcher

soon :tm: the "stable" version of MacroQuest that redguides offers will be MacroQuest "Next"

I expect this will also be forced by the move to the 64-bit client. Which is another reason I took the plunge this week. It's not good to have to make a massive amount of change in a short time! By jumping to Next now, I'll have several months of experience with it before needing to attend to the changes brought about by the new client when it drops next year.

To be clear, nothing will work until someone makes it work. But there will be work on Next to get it to work, as Sic pointed out in the thread.

Suuuure. In your tutorial videos you say using ctrl+` is a convenient way to switch between tools, i get use to that,, then you assign it to the console. 🤣🤣 i accidently opened the console 137 times today.

Seriously tho @Sic. Getting a feel for it, and I like the changes, even though I only had a very short experience in the other version.

Attos

i don't use the ctrl+` for anything other than the console, so not sure what you're saying in my? tutorials? maybe in the RG tutorials? it might have used ` or ctrl+` for swapping screens?

you can change what key your console is in your MacroQuest.ini

INI:
[MacroQuest]
...
ToggleConsoleKey=ctrl+`

Awesome! Thanks.

I meant "you" in the general sense. I have watched so many tutorial videos in the last week, I don't know who said what anymore.

I am a bit confused, I understand this is like the equivalent to a new “windows” upgrade. Will Muleassist still work the same?

I am not sure if anyone here can help. This is not a red guides issue it is a windows i believe. I somehow turned on a windows "feature" so i have my 6 screens up with characters, but only 1 screen is active at any time. so i can see all 6 toons but if i move toon say on screen 1 it does not show them moving on screen 2-6 untill i click on that window. I have turned of snap screen. it started happening when i was resizing my screens a Picture box came up showing different screen layouts but its treating each screen as its own desktop it appears. VV runs fine but basically only 1 screen which ever i am clicked on at that tiem shows movement? does this sound familiar to anyone?

nah this isn't windows 11, this is the "Framelimiter" thing i turned on for you

do a /framelimiter off on all your toons if you don't want to use framelimiter

/bcaa //framelimiter off

I manually loaded into Eq, that usually fixes the mismatch similar to after a big patch, updated Launcher it says i have most recent. not able to load toons with launcher.
