- Magician - Corrected the name of the level 126 Burnout XVII.
Yay! Scriber kept buying this spell and I hadn't looked into why yet. Kept finding it on my mage though lol
- In Ruined Relic, the wandering scrykin near the zone-in from Arcstone, Shattered Isles will no longer spawn.
Good change, this one bit me my first time in zone when I tabbed away and made no sense.

Announcement confirms

All EverQuest Live Servers will be brought offline on Wednesday, January 21, 2026 at 6:00 AM PT* for an update. Estimated downtime is expected to be at least 6 hours.

In Labrinth of Spite there are fish sticking out of the wall and floor on the upper level that will aggro you but you cannot hit.

Is this a feature or a bug?

Bug. They changed the fish to alligators in the patch

- Labyrinth of Spite fish had a rude awakening when some alligators came in and disrupted their sewer habitat. All fish have been exchanged with alligators, which can, and will, chase you on land.

Thanx. Just recently came back from a few years hiatus and was surprised by the dark elf ranger lol

The fact that you need to buy the expact make me think ill have to create personas for these

I kinda wish it would be 'Feature' and not bug...I liked Alligator (in the sewers) enough back in the 80s https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080354 , but I would prefer it be more: Piranha II: The Spawning, cause it was early James Cameron. Flying piranha fish beats sewer gators!

You can no longer get the dark elf ranger from buying that expansion.

The only way to get that expansion (TOB) is to buy the current one which will include TOB but not the special items from TOB or any previous expansion.

That being said you can buy an item in the marketplace to purchase the Dark Elf ranger now.

It is available for 1000 DBC use the search bar in the marketplace and "ranger"

Again, it does that with the Persona feature too. If you didn't buy Laurion's Song then you will need to buy the persona feature in the marketplace.

Something to consider. Look up the current expansion (SOR) and what is inlcuded in it. If there are any features or goodies you want then you have until Sept/Oct to buy it. Around then it goes on sale and once the new expansion comes out all those extras will not be available.

I was planning on buying one or two SOR to play that area (and get 130) , my bot army are mostly ToV era , decided to start fresh . But yeah, seem like ill have to fork more cash for DB cash lol

The EverQuest Team

The good news (for me at least), it appears they have fixed the merc xp bug (lvl 130 mercs can once again get AAs). But no bonus for the xp wasted while the bug was active.

When will i be able to use MQ2? says patch day unavailable
What to expect on patch days?
When eq patches MQ has to be rebuilt. (you also have to patch EQ --- this way you avoid "Version Mismatch" issues)

Once MQ is updated RG can build - we now have an automated system that rebuilds RG as soon as it is updated - which means our previous method of "let's give it a quick test" is no longer there, and sometimes there ends up being another smaller patch later to correct if something got missed - so re-check on patch days if you are having issues.

EQ could change literally anything and it would require the way MQ interacts with that portion of EQ to be completely reworked. It is normally just offsets, sometimes struct changes --- with the large changes eq has been making over the past few months (updates and backend improvements) there are more things than just offset changes that are happening, so it can certainly be a lot of work for the devs.

Curious when Very Vanilla will be updated?

MacroQuest for Test server

EQ patches go like this: (in theory)
2nd* tue/wed = test "real" patch
3rd* wed = live patch
4th* tue/wed = test "true up"

the tue over the wed is a more recent thing (I suspect klanderso has more to do with that, and having time to ensure working stuff before the weekend and upset people - klanderso is pretty awesome)
* holidays subject to cause shifts in days or even week

Test is notorious for being like "oops we forgot the 'dont crash plz' file, gotta patch again", or "woops we added +1 to crashing, we meant -1", so "on paper" it is double the patches, but very frequently ends up being more than double the work (i imagine, I'm not doing the work - I'd love to learn enough at some point to help facilitate doing so, however).

Test also introduces new stuff before it goes to live - over the past couple of years EQ has been making a lot of substantial code changes - not just a "here's a monthly patch" where they adjusted an aoe value or something simple. On top of that, once you get into October/November you start seeing stuff from the expansion going onto the test server, even if that stuff isn't released yet. The good news is that gives the MQ dev(s) more time to implement it, the bad news is that it is more work. Thankless unnoticed (for the most part) work.

MQ itself is open source and by volunteer(s) - RG which builds and distributes that is obviously paid for. When MQ is updated, RG does the best it can to immediately build and make available an updated build
If you wanted to show your appreciation to the main MQ dev for their volunteer work:

Midnight Mallet the insta slow clicky? its quested with limited charges, why nerf it? :o
Same reason they nerfed charming in classic-Luclin on TLPs, pets pre-LDoN, added Mitigation of the Mighty, double-nerfed h2h with MotM (now made more in-line with other weapons) - because they can.

Is there a typical release timeline anyone can comment on besides the canned response from SIC? Just curious if we are talking hours or days

Timing depends on a lot of things like how big / complex the patch was, how available brain is at the time etc. so yeah... when it's ready - Tip your devs!

One of the trade offs for playing on test.. its to TEST the mq updates too!
I am relatively new here but....Figured after however many years MQ has been active and users have waited on patch day, there would be a general estimate for the roll out of updates hehe as I have not experienced many of them myself. But i will hold my assumptions from now on and sit on my couch hitting the refresh button like a good boy.

Keep in mind MQ is a side project for the Devs. none of them to my knowledge make money off MQ directly when it comes to patch days. So they get to it when they can. *EDIT- other than community donations*
Refresh away!
