Question - Evolving Items

Does anyone have a good strategy for leveling up the evolving items found in The Burning Lands Fight Fire mission?

I've been getting Contract of War mission and just killing everything but the armors and the named to do the mission. Lots of mobs but rather slow.

Unfortunately it is going to be a bit slow no matter what. To me, the best places are basically anywhere there is a limited number of armors but still high mob density. Off the top of my head, these places include:

1) Empyr — snails, jopals, giants, etc. (I’m assuming all these count). Essentially, the southern half of the zone.
2) Smoke (static) - The areas where the Trial of Three and Speaker’s Amplitheater take place both have limited armors.
3) Aalishai - Earth section doesn’t have too many armors. Lots of mephits. Watch out for the named that spawn as they can be tough.

fastest way is to go to Tempest Temple and run the merc task Storm of Sorts zone in and kill just the derv mobs, drop task get a new rise and repeat

thought only dervishes and tbl efreeti type mobs counted (nobles ambassadors duende teachers etc)

Any of the models in TBL except those suits of armor and something else count. Those mobs have to be light blue or higher to actually give exp. There are dervishes in that mission and they are located in the center area. I ran this about 30 times to evolve one from level 1 to level 2.

Snails, Elementals, and Mephits definitely count. 90% of my evolutions have come from these types in Aalishai and Empyr.

Doesn't take long in emp as long as you only equip one piece at a time until its lvl 2/2 100%. I dont kill many Snails or Elementals as I hate their aoe's / burn shit. Basically, without trying to level them, killing ph's, some mephits, crags mostly. It's the going back in time to level in the old expansions thats going to be the pita.

What do you mean going back in time to level? Are you talking about the achievement requirements?

Yep! Someone with more time should post an in depth guide to levelling them to 5/5.

I’m not certain I’m following ... the achievements you need seem really straightforward. PoP/RoS/EoK hunters, explorers (all, I think), EoK/RoS Champion, and collectibles as far back as CoTF.

What am I missing? Are the requirements more in-depth?

No, but...its ALOT of work! At least that is what I have been told. Maybe what I am hearing is incorrect?

As far as i know, you need differents achievment to lvl items from lvl to lvl 2: Pop hunter + Eok, ROS TBL for gloves, All travelers for boots, Champion from Eok to TBL for ring, and all collectibles for tabard. and to vl the item from 4 to 5 you need TBL conquest

@MrPatate mostly correct

Gloves: Hunter of PoP, Eok, RoS
Boots: All non-optional traveler zones
Ring: Champion of EoK & RoS
Shoulders: Coft-RoS Collections

To level them from lvl 4 to lvl 5 you need Master of The Burning Lands Achivement

I think you need TBL hunter for the Gloves as well. Is your source Ngreth from the EQ Forums? He made a post where he stated Hunter of PoP, EoK, RoS, and then did a strike through on the words surrounding “TBL” but not on the actual letters “TBL” themselves. I had to believe this was intentional and therefore TBL is actually required, although I had TBL done before I got the gloves so I don’t actually know for certain.

For everyone’s benefit, Master of The Burning Lands basically requires all the missions, mercenary quests, partisans, and the “Challenger” achievements, which are the optional achievements tied to each of the missions. So essentially, you need to beat the whole expansion minus the collectibles and raid achievements.

You do NOT need TBL hunter for gloves. Mine are max leveled (have type 19 augs in it) and I do not have TBL hunter done. Most all my evolving items are maxed, besides shoulders which I have not fully evolved on purpose because they will lose the 5 luck on them when I do.

What method did you use to max them so fast?

Thanks for the clarification. Ngreth’s comment was a bit nebulous.

deathlock — I have all 4 items evolved to the 5th level. The absolute best way I’ve found is to kill snails in Empyr. It is a mix of blue to yellow cons, great mob density, and every mob counts towards the evolution. That said, it still takes thousands of kills to evolve the items from T4 to T5 — so be prepared for long sessions of absolute grinds!

Ugh I am an SK... I can't run kiss and this macro at the same time /sigh

I haven't looked at he macro, but I bet modifying for use by a SK would be relatively trivial.

I have been working on some guides for the TBL evolving items...

So far I have guides for all of the collection achievements that are required (CoTF - RoS) and I have also done a few guides for the PoP Hunter Achievement too.

Threadbare Weighted Tabard Guide

CoTF Achievement Guides (Collection ones and Travelers are the only ones done atm)
TBM Achievement Guides (Collection ones and Travelers are the only ones done atm)
TDS Achievement Guides (Collection ones and Travelers are the only ones done atm)
EoK Achievement Guides (Collection ones and Travelers are the only ones done atm)
RoS Achievement Guides (Collection ones and Travelers are the only ones done atm)

Here is an example of what my collection guides look like: https://www.almarsguides.com/eq/Achievements/TDS/Collections/IslandFragments/

Any feedback on how to improve the guides would be fantastic. I'm considering doing guides for more Achievements than just what's required for the TBL Evolving Items... This simply seemed like a good place to start since so many people are after these items atm.

I'm curious about something here.. I dont yet have TBL, but I've got those ach's all completed already on my SK, minus the ROS one.. If i have them already completed, will that 'auto evolve' the TBL items to a certain point? Or how does that work exactly? does it just unlock them so they CAN be leveled?

Its funny, reading about this TBL leveling of items.. It seems like they took the old 'alaran stone tear' formula and applied to their gear.. I have heard so many people complain about the ol' tear over the years, that its an interesting approach for them to take.. I personally did the grind to get it evolved, as an SK, i have a few type 3 aug slots spare that it would be useful in..

Cheers,
Lordeth

Ngreth posted this for the final evolve in the test patch note thread:

Code:
At this time, it is ALL Burning Lands achievements.

Based on the forums, Ngreth has added a 6th evolution and meaningfully nerfed the prior evolutions. The 6th evolution requires Vanquisher of TBL. The 5th Evolution no longer requires Master of the Burning Lands.

Super pissed as I have evolved 17 unique items to T5 17 (18th done tomorrow) and now they’re getting struck hard by the nerf bat. Unreal!

Care to share how you did this?

Guessing people on Test server popped on to see what changes were made after the patch yesterday (or actually, two days ago, I think). And naturally, that was followed up by a EQ forum blowup.

Snails in Empyr. Tens of thousands of kills. My group has really good DPS and I was killing up to 1,500 snails a day. Mobs last about 15-20 seconds on average according to GamParse. The 17 items (now 18) were spread across 6 characters who were all in the group. However, I obviously got the chase items one by one, so at any given point I was exping up probably ~3 items. So the XP required wasn’t too dissimilar from say 6 items as opposed to 18 on one character.

Either way, it has been a major focus of my efforts this last month. Hoping the nerds are reasonable when I go in after the patch.

They’re adding a 6th level to the rares for raiders and nerfing the stats of lvl 1-5

"nerfing the stats of lvl 1-5 "
what are they doing to the items, and where was this info, not sure i saw it on patch notes
