Yah, I was in beta for a few hours, if your not raid geared, you last for about one quad hit. The loots are not much to brag about either. Oh well, it will get the hard core players out of the older expansion pack zones. 
A mimic is an animated treasure chest (or any animated inanimate object, but treasure chests are the normal instantiation -- think plane of hate treasure chests)
