Heh, I am soured on this. Two reasons.

The whole timing of the lawsuits and this competitive imitation release is too odd. They made the other folks close down and now throw out the same or almost the same product. It's like the Carl's Jr Big Carl is not quite the Mcdonald's Big Mac. But at least those are allowed to compete.

There are many of us who signed up for beta and have not hear a word. Meanwhile they keep recruiting more players to still sign up and those players are getting into beta. It harks back to when EQ had special requirements for a player to be considered for beta and only allowed a chosen few. Most players could not make the cut, only top raiders and guilds.

If you did not know the date on this it could easily be straight out of og.

I just don't know the audience. Old models only, difficulty levels, and p99 ui are aimed squarely at P99 players. Those people are already playing p99, and I'm skeptical about them converting them to paying players. Especially with box fee, sub fee and mtx.

Maybe they'll siphon off some live players, maybe some p99 players. But there's probably not so many thj players wanting an inferior substitute. I expect to last they'll need a lot of new players, and how many of those are out there wanting this level of graphical and ux crudity?

Only way I would quit Live EQ is if I got banned or they shut the game down. Then, if I had to start over with another game it probably wouldn't be EQ in any form.

I don't get it either. I'm a purist when it comes to your character. You picked a class and a race for a reason. This is your persona in the world. And what is the point of anything in this version of the game?

I kind of get starting out with old models, then when/if it makes it to Luclin era they have something "new" to dangle

Just so they can charge for expansions.

I feel like they’re doing one of two things:
1) missing the mark completely on a “casual” experience, à la item grinds/upgrades
2) trying to make it appeal to everyone, which always flops

I find the constant “how does this play into RMT” question when making design decisions is actively leading to poor choices. It’s also laughable that they don’t seem to understand what drives RMT and have Reagan on staff if it is that important.

I loved THJ, but this takes everything I liked about that and ruins it. The positive of theory crafting multiclass builds is outweighed by all the stuff I dislike. Also THJ was popular without needing to pay youtube shills to promote it.

Hard pass. It's like a DBG approved emulator with them developing it. They should have left THJ alone and just stayed in their lane.

It’s their spin on a wildly popular and beloved emulator, hoping to capitalize and monetize someone else’s idea. The dip in revenue wasn’t solely because THJ and they just needed a scape goat.

they managed to make their own verison of heros journey and turn it into zeros journey, why are they so terrible at reading the god damn fucking room.
Because they hired devs with a different vision for what EQ should be, THJ devs regularly talked with the community and looked for feedback. That’s not really Secrets or Reagan’s MO

Probably comes down to their personal/social views. "Everyone should be able to have everything" seems to be the development path.

Some interesting takes on things, I think the class swapping could be advantageous for certain encounters.

I'm absolutely not a fan of the way item levelling is done. I think the power source slot evolving method is superior. I also prefer the ascendant system of using shards.

small man EQ content should have been a focus point for more than a decade now. I like the blend of solo, small group, small raid stuff.

Probably something i wait to see how most of you guys review it before i bother giving it a try.

I actually think that the real selling point is that the game is separate from All Access and there will be no Krono there. Every TLP provokes a flood of complaints about Krono and now this will be what they (think ) that they want

I think there’s a fairly good chance that if it’s popular, we see krono introduced for that sub

Well, Daybreak has 10 games and only 4 are All Access with only 2 of those allowing Krono trading in game. There are people who usually play Planetside 2 and DC Universe Online who will hit new TLP to stock up on Krono in order to fund their main game subs, you can find it on the official forums there

Among many other issues with this, mobs being multiclass is a deal breaker for me.
That more or less completely negates the value of players being multiclassed.

Also totally not a fan of the floating damage numbers and misses etc, that looks awful and cheesy as hell.

Also seems overly complex and confusing for the sake of being confusing.
Gear looks really time consuming to organize and figure out.

Overall just not impressed with this nekked cash grab.

I get the appeal but everytime I see a "Dev" involved event just listening to them talk causes ear pain. Hard for me to believe there aren't some crossover folks from the Emu ( wasn't playing when THJ was a thing ) because it basically is the same core push just keeping the initial race locks in place. IDK we will see. Cheers everyone.

the floating text can be turned off.

Mobs can only dual class unless they are bosses, and this is an optional difficulty slider.

Gear system is a bit more complex yeah, but really not that complex and offers a variety of build diversity because of it's flexible nature.

I tried the beta up to 50 and it was a great time, as someone who has done nothing but box/raid box for the past two decades, it's a solid alternative game experience to what the game offers by default.

More fun than any private server alternative I've ever tried, at least. And they are still working on it every day.

This doesn't mean I don't have gripes with it, but it's definitely good enough for me to play out the gate right now, with still two months of development time to go.

Edit: Also to the post above me, the game's similarities to THJ start and end with the ability to multiclass. The game is nothing like THJ outside that.

looks like they're maxing out their characters in 1 week, which pretty much means there isn't enough content to keep anyone busy staying subbed either. EQ classic has lots of mid-tier named and such to tackle, but if you're hitting max in under a week then all of the content is useless as you blow past it. It's exactly why I can't be bothered with TLP, but clearly the same bad design decision issue exists here too.

People always max out their level as soon as they can. This isn't new for any server

There's also OTHER things to do on live. On this absurdity there is NOTHING else to do. The grind is all that is until several expansions in. Nothing new? Sure, bad design for a new server that they want to hold interest? Absolutely.

Even on TLP they unlock expansions relatively quickly so you have something to do upcoming. I don't think some of you think things through.

To me it smells like a money grab, sub fee / box price / microtransactions etc. but i'm sure there is a playerbase for it.
and RMT as with any other mmo / game these days :D

They are EQEmu devs........

I've been trying to get a key for this but haven't had any luck. None the less, I am really looking forward to the launch. Sadly I missed out on the THJ version.
