I do know this past weekend braniac was working on putting a new pc together.
I feel for him, in theory this is straightforward, in reality, it is not. It took me several reloads of the OS to get it right, so that is equal to several days for me!

Thanks for your reply. Again, not impatient, just trying to understand how this all fits together

If I may, here's my understanding of how this works. Can you (or anyone, really) correct me if I'm wrong?

  • MQ is Open Source, worked on by volunteer devs. Open source means protected under CopyLeft (must be given away for free & all changes must be published, etc), similar to Linux source code
  • RG is a distribution of MQ, which makes calls to MQ, similar to how a Linux distribution (like Red Hat) makes calls to the underlying open source Linux code
  • RG devs don't necessarily work on MQ
  • When EQ is patched, it messes with the way MQ needs to function to work properly, meaning MQ needs to be rebuilt before it will work again. Rebuilding MQ is done by the MQ Devs (Brainiac, for example)
  • MQ Dev work is all volunteer and uncompensated except for Donations from users of MQ, RG, or other MQ distributions (I'm assuming there are others but I don't actually know)
  • RG Dev work is compensated through our subscriptions and through donations from the extra generous among us
  • The discrepancy between Test's MQ downtime and Live's MQ downtime is attributed to the MQ devs' availability & resources, not the RG devs' availability & resources
  • Finally, DayBreak is not fully honest about what changes they are making when they patch Live and/or Test - larger changes are often made under the hood even when they announce "Test now matches Live" but the only way to know is to decompile both of them and compare

This is what I have learned over the past few years…

Test will be up when it’s up and no amount of asking questions will change that. I have been where you are and wondering how/why it is that way. I have asked right here on this thread numerous times trying to figure it out. The answer is always going to be the same. RG has no control over when it will be done. They really don’t know anymore than we do. I have tried the patience of the folks here in RG asking. At this point the test build is down almost as much as it is up. That is just the reality of playing on Test these days. I played during the Eqmule days and that was never the case. Very rarely was either build down more than a couple of days. To be fair MQ was not nearly as complex as it is now. I know that Brain has a job and a real life and he only has so many hours in a day and the live build is where the priority is and where it should be.

I have decided to spend the bulk of my time on live and play on test when it is up. It’s much easier than wondering when the test build is coming up.

This is very helpful. Thank you! It confirms my suspicions. Feels better to hear you're on the right track when you're waving around in the dark

Now we just need to find someone who knows MQ as well as Brain who has more time on their hands. I would love to do it, but its far from my specialty

How's that patience cap?

The summary you read doesn't really give the whole story either, but I don't suspect it matters much.

Dbg wasn't making large toolset changes, they weren't rewriting complete systems, they weren't in the process of overhauling their UI engine, they hadn't changed to dx11 and continually made changes on those.

Unfortunately even someone very skilled and knowledgeable would take a very substantial amount of time REing all the things brain has, and create all the tools brain has created.

And if you happen to know this magical unicorn the MQ community would love for more folks to contribute!

Mule did a lot of great stuff for MQ, but there were also lots of "well it sorta works so it must be right" but weren't actually right. Or half implemented or janky work arounds.

Also - sometimes mule would get "a leak" sent to him with code changes and where to look, this employee left to blizzard around the same time JChan left - check for updates and update speeds during big changes - you'll take care to notice the times brainiac bailed mule out.

Conversely, I know of a few times where eq has had some broken shit and brain broke it down ELI5 style so dbg could fix their problems.

Yes you mentioned you're new, so you wouldn't know that (and no one expects you to), but new folks showing up and saying things like "maybe brain can use AI to help" is less than helpful - like actually less than helpful.

Anyhow, as I said, I don't think it matters much here in this conversation.

Hopefully test will be back up soon

Hopefully I didn’t come off as being critical. I don’t know what goes on under the hood between MQ and RG. I am simply coming from an end user of the product’s perspective. Back in the Mule days this was an entirely different service. I’m sure what’s under the hood now is miles ahead of what it was then.

Replaced my computer. haven't had a chance to get to this yet because I haven't been able to completely set up my development environment yet. should have it ready before end of the week.

I don't mind the wait. Been over playing Modded Minecraft. And working on reviving and extremely old mod that I thoroughly enjoyed years ago. Take all the time and get it done right. And do get to much aggro with the family. Ive heard wife's aggro is the worst but I've never experienced it bad yet!

To be fair I did respond when he said he was working on it and he had to replace his computer.

I do really appreciate the time and effort that is put into keeping Test and Live updated. I have been in doctors appointments all morning or I would have said thank you earlier. Sic you are correct in calling us out. Complaining is easy, showing gratitude should also be easy.

Hope your doc apt went well bro! Saw some of your stuff in discord today

Thanks I really, really am trying to not be “that guy” when it comes to test. It took me a while to get it but I think I do now. I will definitely try and tip the dev when I can. I do appreciate all the work that goes into this operation

Thank you very much brainiac. If I had the cash I would send a tip, I simply don’t but I do want to let you know I do appreciate everything you do

true up patch hit test today. time to put on the comfy patience pants and flip that ice cream cone upside down!

as always thanks to the RG crew for all ya do.

cheers

Thanks for the hard work and fast turn around brainiac!

Edit: ${Group.Member[1].Distance} all 0-5 of these are returning NULL and I think is causing the CWTN plugins to not chase. Haven't found anything else buggy yet. Will report back if I see any others.

It is related to a "group member" issue with MQ. It is known and brain is looking into it
Thanks all. Was just noticing this myself as I hopped back into the game this afternoon.

I did notice as a work around the plugins still work if I made a hotkey to /dgge /assist "MA" it will turn on their AutoAttack and they will run through their CWTN class actions.
