Question - So, does anyone actually use a Mac here?

Hi all,

Not new to EQ, but new to this site (obviously). I'm interested in digging into MQ2 and such, but I'm one of the dark minority who actually play on a Mac (and thus, Al'Kabor). I've searched through the forums, and pretty much everything here seems to be PC related. That's what I expected, but I'm curious - does anyone run MQ2 on a Mac using Bootcamp with Windows (or any other kind of setup running Windows, but actually using a Mac machine)? Is this even possible? If so, I'd appreciate any direction you can offer.

Being booted into a windows install on a mac should allow you to use mq2 just fine, on eq live at least.

Note:
Running Windows on the Mac would allow you to run MQ2 on the live Everquest servers but not on EQMac even you are are running the PC patch for EQMac.
We are currently working on an MQ2 EQMac compile but no release date as of yet as its going really slow.

I run windows 7 on my MacBook Pro using bootcamp, works like a charm. Activated using an old key I had from another machine I'm no longer using...

hey so i have figured out a way to load MQ2 using a wine wrapper to play EQ on. Basically put the MQ2 directory into your wine folder, once you have EQ running, open up wine, choose advanced, set your path to mq2.exe now and run test, this will run MQ2 for long enough for it to hook into the client, from there you're golden. Hope this helped.

So when i first read your post i thought for sure you were playing on an EMU server. So i assumed you were using wineskin to run EQ on. THe method i know uses wineskin to run EQ and then susbequently MQ2 as well. Good directions on how to set up EQ via wineskin can be found at project1999.org under the tech discussion section of the forums. It would be a roundabout way to have wineskin runnning an PC version or EQmac, but it might work. Also there is a chance just using the wrapper might let it hook into the client but i have no idea since i'ver never played on EQmac. GL

The EQmac client is is over 8 years old. The current lives compiles wouldn't know what to do with it.
