We have zero information if this is a "at your convenience run the updater" where you can use the previous MQ/eqgame, we have no clue if it will be a forced .exe update, we have no clue if there is no file changes.

This was a "Backend" maintenance downtime - there is NOT a new .exe

You do NOT need to update eq/mq.

You CAN play

So in addition to the memory leak reported as far back as the Test update on 8/13, they implemented that code on Live causing the Post Effects issue with GPU utilization. And then also I heard some small subset of people were having high ping times to EQ. It's interesting they posted no warnings on their web forums.

haven't seen a "sorry it wasn't on the forums and sorry we didn't use our 'announcements-and-news' or any other means of communication"

Don't you just put up a DND - "Working really hard on QA mistake." when shit hits the fan? Let other people deal with the talking.
 
In a way, I feel kind of bad for Angeliana. My guess is one hand didn't talk to the other and she was hit with it suddenly as well. She's handling it horribly, but having been in similar situations over the years at work and then being the person everyone looks at for answers, it's rough and I feel for her. But yeah, not the best responses.

Yes, I think that EG7 took over a lot of the backend systems (which implies authentication and billing to me). Darkpaw/Daybreak employees are likely to be on the outside looking in.
 
I wonder what they had to fix in the db? Sounds Restore-ish if they were running checkdb during the day.

i think that the "backend" part of the larger organization had it scheduled and somehow that never trickled down, so saying emergency is bad optics - saying they were never notified also bad optics - etc etc etc

imo (and i dont have much to go on to be fair) it just seems like bad management up and down
