There's nothing preventing someone from making it work with Truebox servers. Anybody who can make it work for patches can easily make it work on Truebox. People bypass truebox and the one ip per client all the time on TLP servers.
mq has been open source for a while.

getting mq to "work on a truebox server" isn't the same as "bypassing truebox detection stuff" just fyi

Thank you to the guys in the background who have tirelessly logged in each week and kept this code viable for all us players who play on the live version of the game. From a personal perspective, your efforts have enhanced my enjoyment of Everquest and allowed me to keep playing on servers with dwindling player bases. As a player well into his 50's, your code has also allowed me to play the way I used to before arthritis slowly started taking its toll in my hands and fingers. One of the greatest draws of Everquest for me is the fact that I don't need to button mash to hang out and play with friends that have been part of my online gaming community for the last 20 years.

The absence of your assistance on Live will have a huge impact and I really do hope that there is someone in this community that may be able to assist with at least keeping Very Vanilla acitve on live. A number of years ago I played on the EMU servers and found the experience less than rewarding. Many of the servers have a Shell version of Everquest that have all the quests stripped out of them and replaced with custom content. While this can be engaging, it does mean that everything I have loved about EQ is not present on those servers. I also believe that P99 (and its various servers) do not allow any form of MQ2 and are active in applying bans.

Again, thank you for all the work you guys have been doing over the years. I know that a decsion like this would have taken much conversation between you all and wouldn't have been entertained lightly. Daybreak, in recent years, have certainly not made your jobs any easier. Here's hoping there is a way forward that keeps the live base active!
I am 70 and having MQ2 do the vast majority of the kbd/mouse work is a huge help. And I doubt we are all that unusual. In my guild on VOX a large number of the people are older. Our guild leader was mid 30s and would remark that he felt he was the youngest member of the guild at times. To bad Daybreak does not consider this benefit of MQ significant.

@questor56 I am not too far behind you, so I can definitely relate to what you are saying.

Completely agree, I too am antique but with added medical problems. And very restricted $$.

EQ Emu has bots which recently got upgraded. They are really good now. I think that might work against RG/MQ because they let you play groups or raids without needing to do much. But MQ still gives far better control.

There are some advantages with EQ Emu too though which should make it more welcoming to MQ players. A lot of servers have no problem with people using MQ. So it is really nice to not have to hide or feel like a terrorist just for playing the game how you want. Some of the servers still have some rules though, like they let you use MQ but they don't like you going afk. (meh...) But some servers don't mind. Also people can make their own servers pretty easily and then you can do anything you want.

Another big attraction to emu servers is the recent feature that lets players create their own instances of any zone. So you can go to any popular grind spot or raid and get your own copy of the zone and have it all to yourself. One of the things that put me off EQ was not being able to do epic quests and things on popular servers because waiting a week for raid mobs to respawn is not for me. So making your own copy of any zone is awesome. It also makes it so that super popular servers are no longer a pain to play on. You get all the advantages of lots of players, more people to chat to and more trading and stuff. But none of the downsides like important things or places being overcrowded.

i wouldn't mind emu servers if they had recent content, i just don't want to play omens and below expacs for the 100th time.. there is no way to get newer expacs with them building it themselves right?

if i move your stuff to fippys or delete it - and you repost it, im gonna give you a couple days vacation
if you post something and say "this is gonna get me fippys'd or a warning" it is getting deleted.

everyone is unhappy - let's not make up crazy shit please and thank you.
some folks are working tirelessly to try and keep things going - throwing dogshit in the air is just making that harder.

Yeah Emu is far behind and it takes them a long time to add new expansions. But I like classic EQ so much that I've been happy to replay it in different ways. It also has a lot of content if you play through it in sequence. I think about 8 expansions. When I played on PEQ people seemed to want to skip ahead. There are guides to cut a lot of corners. Like you kill a wandering efreeti and it gives you access to a key dungeon in PoP. And then you can quickly get the quest armor which is really powerful. That way you can focus on PoP and Gates of Discord without playing through the whole game.

But I like playing through the whole game. It is a far bigger game that way. I would not loot the overpowered Defiant gear and play through classic with legit gear for that time. Enjoy all the old legendary zones. If I ever got fed up there were still zones I didn't play much so I could use those for a change. Then in Kunark at level 50 with old world gear you get months more of gaming from it. Doing dungeons to level up more and improve gear. Then there are a lot of raids to do at 60. Several dragons and Chardok Royals and stuff. Doing the Epic weapon quests at that point is a real challenge too. And that's still only 1 expansion in. Then there's Velious which is huge too, and then several more expansions. Playing through them with "era appropriate" gear and levels makes it a long game. If you played those first several expansions a lot already though then it must suck. But even after all this time I am still a noob with GoD and whatever comes after that.

Please try to be patient everyone. Until something is officially announced stating MQ2 will no longer be updated on live. I have been using RG for a few years and pay for a sub even when im.not actively playing just to show my support. It will take something more concrete from somebody actually running this site to make me just jump.ship that MQ2 will no longer be updated or supported. So please show your support rather than cast out wild accusations. Im sure everyone is waiting on an update as to how the future of MQ2 will hash out.

for clarity - there is no mq2, there hasn't been for a while. just MQ

I'm gonna be 69 soon and I will miss MQ. I didn't run it all the time usually it'd be some project of the other that I'd load up MQ. The thing is that I can't get into the emu servers at all and I have tried regularly over the years. But I'll continue to hang around and see what happens. Maybe there should be a Live section here for those folks who aren't on an Emu who want to discuss non-MQ play on those servers

and the class plugins are not opensourced i guess?
Those are "private" plugins . Hence paying a fee for their use.

When I was doing my own compile, you had to follow the forum threads to pull the files to make your own public plugins. While I was gone things appear to have been moved to github (MQ anyways, not sure about the plugins). As the MQ main forums appeared dead, I decided to use RG's pre-compile set up instead of hunting down all the files myself again when I opted to try EQing again.

Some of the plugins are considered "core" (you can see them marked as such) but I don't think I have seen the raw files available here (I may of course be wrong, I was not specifically looking for them). I assume they could be made available upon request if you are wanting to help upkeep those (which is what I take to be what you are asking). There may be differences between the plugins offered via RG and the ones from the MQ Main site (especially as the forums appear dead).

I would suggest hoping on the MQ Discord, as that appears to be the new main communications hub for MQ specifically (as opposed to the RG compile of MQ and plugins). I believe the link was already posted earlier.

Well I will keep my sub till the live updates stop, I just paid for a year for 7 plugins and 6 new eq accounts so will ride it till it dies, Thank you all who keep this going I hope live stays up, I have no interest in emu myself. Has been fun.

you want sum fuk let's fuck here GIF

Started to play again one week ago, so sad :(
Me too! :(

This community ignited my love for this game again a few years back during a spell of ill health when the joys of boxing and levelling, farming, questing of this game I'd not touched since 2004 become a big part of my life again. Utterly heartbroken to see it die on live servers as it's really the only way this game is accessible to me now in any meaningful way other than sitting in plane of knowledge idle.

Can't thank those involved for their time enough, it was incredible while it lasted.

I’ve only on live and some on test. Is there a way to find the EMU that RG will support. I’m bet interested but don’t know to start! Thank you for all y’all do!

I haven't seen anyone ask, yet. But what does the process for capturing game data for the Emu servers look like?

People need to accept the reality that this game could shut down at any time. It's happened to dozens of other games in the past by studios with many more players and a lot more revenue. If that happens, wouldn't we lose the ability to build those expansions forever because the server side is gone?

EQ is the current cash cow for Enad Global 7. EG7 is experiencing some losses but they are a large conglomerate and it is in their best interests to keep EQ going. But eventually once EQ no longer makes money they will shut down the servers and EMU will survive that and MQ will survive on EMU. Even if EG7 were to fold - another company would purchase Daybreak. 27 years and still making bank....

Appreciate the input. I'd like to focus on the topic of preserving the current data for Emulation servers. Hopefully someone knows how that portion of the Emu servers is taken care of. I'm not familiar with the data harvesting.

exactly charge $25 a month to keep it going. We would Pay
The problem is MQ devs do not want the Kwan. They are burnt out dealing with the anti-cheat measures of DPG.

Couple it with the fact that a group of the people who pay will complain endlessly about a compile that takes 3 days to build. The limited amount of cash that would be raised would not be worth the toll on their happiness.

Most of the data in EMU has been created from the ground up. It is not so much harvested but created to mimic what once was. That is why it is hard to push EMU content further down the line - It has be be created from scratch. Here is a discussion on the subject https://www.redguides.com/community/threads/rof-content-and-eqemu-servers-and-content.96374/

In my guild tonight during raid, sounded like someone with inside knowledge? Said all of our stuff ( MQ ) wouldn't be able to be updated after tomorrow. NO idea what he was saying, didn't want to ask anything and out myself..
