Question - New to RG, Looking for advice on group comp

Hello everybody. As the title says, I'm relatively new to RG. I play on live with a 120 SK, 120 bard and 120 Shaman (heard that was a good trio). Most familiar with my SK and drive with him, but by no means a pro on him. Characters are moderately geared at best.
A few things I'm looking for as far as advice;
1) What can I farm with this trio? Anything worth farming for plat/drops? What am I capable of? (unfamiliar with anything past level 90'ish game wise as that's when I stopped playing last).
2) If I added 3 more toons to my group for a full 6, what would you recommend class-wise? I know that's a broad question, but please assume I would be using MQ2Eskay, MQ2Shaman (All the paid class plugins from ChatWithThisName), and also please assume I'm lazy.
3) What plugins, Lua's, Macros etc would be recommended or considered a must-run/have for what Im trying to do? Being new to the MQ/KA things is a bit overwhelming, and yes I have watched the getting started videos and am still just a bit well...overwhelmed.
4) A bit of a different question; For leveling alts, what would be the best/most efficient way to power level alts from 85 and up? I know they cant group with me till 90, but trying to get them from 85-90 has proven to be just a PITA honestly, I can't seem to find a solid, easy way to do that. I should mention for Power leveling, I use the SK/wurmslayer AOE taunt DS method and have alts aoe to tag the mobs.

Thank you all in advance for any help and or suggestions. They are much appreciated. =)

Howdy Subvert,

Welcome to RedGuides!

1 - you can do a lot - you have the basics covered and just need some dps
2 - rogues, zerkers, bstlords work fit in there really well as a melee-oriented group - in fact that trio would be baller, or 2 rogues and bst, or 2 zerkers and bsts (zerkers aren't as OP as they were, but they're still fine) - however, anything is going to be fine
3 - MQ takes time, eq is complicated already and mq adds another layer - check out the vids in my signature as i have a few QoL things to check out - autogroup, autoaccept, feedme, camera, etc
4 - i'd suggest using a heroic - 85 or 100 shd/pal to XP - with the bard melody singing aoe snare, aow slow, and aow manaregen - things go pretty quick

Thank you for taking the time to reply Sic.
- So I actually have a 110 SK on another account, I suppose I could use him and probably a j5 healer merc to group and swarm PL 85-90, right? Ive got a 116 Mage I could follow with for the DS as well...
- From what you said about #2 there, How do you think a group comp of (120) SK, Sham, Bard, Bst, Zerk, Zerk would fair? My concern is not having any real caster dps, I can only assume that would limit what I can do as far as farming. But then again, I'm curious what I could actually farm (How far I could push it), as this 90+ thing is new to me really. I'm sure there are a million different options, mainly looking for whats worth the time. I did start looking into: https://www.redguides.com/community/threads/wiki-grinding-farming-guide.37493/ as well, so maybe I will answer my own question there heh.
- I've been considering selling TA's on Live and power leveling others from 1-90. Thats my real goal here. To make plat/krono.

your #2 - that is a perfectly viable group, i run that group as my primary group, and have vids of all the recent missions during xpac launch week if you're curious what it looks like in practice. zerkers took a bit of a reduction in damage with some updates, and rogues took a bump due to body type changes - but either are still viable, i still like my zerkers just fine.

1. Is this trio GOLD? Are you using Mercs? If you are, are you using Merc Healer x1, Merc Melee x2 or... Merc Melee x3? (I believe you can do just about anything until you hit the missions that require intense healing and/or dps)... I would recommend farming named outside the missions and selling gear.
2. SK, Sham, Brd // BL, Zerk, + Pal/Monk/Rog/Mag (any of these would do your 6-box nicely! I learned the most through asking questions here @ RG and learning the INI. I know it seems overwhelming, but it starts to get easier to manage/modify as you understand it, but if you got the cash to throw at it, then by all means! :)
3. I've only used KA Vanilla
4. Buy up 3x Heroic 100s... then they can start with you immediately! :)

Just my two red:rcents.

My only thought here is... I try to avoid overlapping buffs/auras/whatnot... so I would suggest you take at most, one of each class to get the variety.... so I would encourage BL, Zerk, + Pal/Monk/Rog/Mage...

Well farming things probably won't be your issue. I'd recommend spending a little time studying /bazaar, then /barter...try to figure out:
  1. Which items /barter for a high platinum amount (and why) in your server (EX: Scuffed bags)
  2. Which tradeskill (ts) items are rare to ultra-rare which are essential for combines or earring quest
  3. Which armor sets are in short supply...EX: Conflagrant, Snowbound, Faded Waxing...and what they're selling for...
  4. Where you can get the most for your time...EX...you can farm a bunch of armor/weapons but that stuff will take time to sell in bazaar...or you could go swarm a few lower level zones and /barter the diamonds/blue diamonds and trade mats for a much high platinum intake...
  5. Most importantly, separate your farm bots from your actual character and make sure they're adequately geared...can't tell you how many people got /reported and lost a 23 year main because they thought i'd be a good idea to use THAT CHARACTER for farming...
Pro-tip: best farm bots are usually SK's, Clerics (yes clerics! with a war merc...if you don't believe me try tossing a 115 cleric, ftp, with max aa's and a war merc in any 85 zone and clean it 24/7 non-stop....slow but steady), and/or Berzerkers

Not sure how you feel about busting that mage down to 115 and throwing your 110 SK into the mix to get through the 85-90 range. As you stated you are going to be getting the CWTN plugins, you could use your SHM and heal outside of group. Using hot zones, campfires and LoTD you can fly through those 5 levels. There are many viable scenarios to getting them to 90. If there's extra mad money in your hands, why not just go the 100 Heroic route and have your crew set in minutes? As mentioned by Sic, SK/SHM/BRD/2xBer/BST(I use MAG because I am lazy and hate walking) works out awesome.

Hello. Yes they would all be gold. Yes they would all have mercs as well (although not quite sure what my best type of merc would be to run for each, healing, dps, etc.
Thank you for replying =)

Hello, thank you for taking the time to reply as well.
So I dont plan to ever run my 6 box AFK, I would only use it while im driving with the SK. So im not toooooo concerned about getting banned for it, especially with the MQSay alert or whatever its called. But I appreciate the info.

IF you are using SK, Sham, Bard already, then I strongly suggest EITHER of those two MERC setups: FIRST, Sk sham bard MERC healer x1, melee dps x2 OR sk sham bard MERC melee dps x3 (if you can handle the healing on the shaman already just fine)

Ok...you need to understand...anytime you load you put your name in the hat for a potential vacation and at the worst ban. You don't just get suspended w/ just reports (but that does increase the odds...) So again, it's not a function of how long you or how well you conceal your activities. Despite great countermeasures DBG knows when you load any 3rd party software. Ban waves come in spurs and there's a random component to it all because they don't want to give away their detection methodology.

As an example I've had accounts I haven't logged in years/month suspended...and accounts I'm MQ2'ing for 10+ hrs daily grinding away...not touched.

If you have your heart attached to any toon you don't want to risk...don't log them in with MQ2 running...Hence make bot groups separate from your mains. For the best outcome...consider any machine (laptop/pc) you log-on with MQ2 booted to be on their target list with any other account you log-in from on that machine. The pro's here can explain it much better but they log everything. IP, PC Hardware, accts, etc...Hence: the best and only way to not get hit...don't cross-send funds/kronos/gears among clean/bot accounts...and don't log in with your "clean accounts" on the "dirty pc."

banned ban GIF

@Sic had his stuff shutdown mid-stream...it was brutal...but it's out here in the forums...it can happen to anyone (even people who use other 3rd party apps)

Final note...if you are planning to farm (items, spells, whatevs) know that even /bartering to yourself from bot accts at close to nothing between cleans and bot accounts can be considered an offense. Tried that to be sneaky and got one of my mains suspended that's been on clean machine/100% clean account last year...so...long story short...learn to live with rolling the dice...make cool alts...or don't risk your mains

I recently just came back again, third time now.

IMHO, since you have the Holy Trinity covered already and you plan on using CWTN (BEST CHOICE EVER!!!!!!), then I would 100% consider playing melee with those 3. Bard helps more with the melee group vs caster group from my experience and while BER is lower DPS-wise than it was due to a game bug, still very viable.

BST, ROG, BER is a nice well-rounded group. The only downside? A LOT of chain users.
Plate x 2
Leather x 1
Chain x 3

Makes gearing a little more difficult as I speak from experience. I ended up swapping SHM out for CLR, and had a Plate x3, Leather x1, Chain x2 and never looked back. Super solid and was more successful in the end group game.

Honestly, I feel like the issue of stacking armor type is overblown. At this point, at least in the group game, it’s a non-issue.

I’d consider a mage stack group, they’ve been strong for a while and offer a lot of QoL. With zerks being more inline than previously, rogue (and monk to a lesser extent) are seeing more love too.

I agree 100%. Perhaps in that cartoon looking game that Blizzard has it might be an issue as gear is drop dependant as I recall.

Depends on the server I guess. Taken right now. I do not have a PL crew to work with, I do things the old school way, RGVV help. Running with ENC, MAG, NEC. 2 Plates, 1 Leather.

How is armor class and issue?
? What do you mean?

I was talking about stacking armor types. ENC, 3 x MAG for instance is 4 x cloth wearers. As you can see from my example bazaar snippet for any range of Defiant Silk, makes it difficult at lower levels to 85 to gear up pieces for 1 toon, let alone 3. Sure, you can go ahead and spend 40 bucks on a Heroic upgrade, but why if you don't want to? I also ran another snippet right now for both defiant cloth/silk, 2 extra items were added.

Just doing the dailies and selling tradeskill stuff you find along the way should provide you with an easy means to gear; but if we're being honest, a caster group doesn't really need gear for a LONG time.
