Can 3 toons with mercs make it to max lvl? if whats the best setup i am thanking merc healers for sure. as i read the tanks just cant tank it later on.
how about the caster dps?
and the toon i drive can it be mostly auto for skills/target as the MA/Tank?
I am looking at Bard, Mage or Necro, and war or SK. but any and all input i will take to heart.

So you can sort of get by with healer mercs, especially multiples, but the best result (as always) comes if you're geared. You can certainly reach max level with just 3 characters and 3 mercs, but at certain points - roughly about 75+ - the tank mercs do stop cutting the mustard, more or less, until you AA and gear them out, and even then you'd still want a real tank with real gear.

As to just how hands-off you get, that really depends on your automation. With Muleassist or Kissassist you'd be writing the instructions for them into their .inis, basically telling them what to do in the automation loop. For a more hands-off approach, both CWTN's plugins and RGMercs Lua are pretty quick to get running, and do a good job handling tanking, DPS, and are really good at healing compared to KA/MA. But in all cases yes they can and will handle targeting, using skills/spells, and even pull for you once you set that up.

For a go-to 3-box I would highly recommend Warrior/Bard/Cleric or Warrior/Bard/Shaman or SK/Bard/Shaman - SK/Bard/Shaman will clear pretty much everything with DPS Merc support, but I'd recommend starting with 3 Tank Mercs to level and swapping to DPS mercs and maybe a backup healer merc as you get higher and they get better.

Welcome!

@madimp said it really well; a tank, healer, and crowd control trio is a great start and can take you all the way.

Personally, I like Kissassist because I like being able to adjust each character's setting.

I found it easier to start from level 1 instead of an existing characters as it felt less complex. Once I got the hang of it, I switched to my higher level characters.

Take your time and have fun with it.

I respectfully disagree with the statement that tank merc are no good after level 50 or 75 etc. That is a game myth. Or that you have to use multiple healer mercs. No, they will never be a real player but they do not stop cutting the mustard then. Even with less than full AA etc.

Many of us are using tank and healer mercs in top level game. If you know how to play them they are not bad at all. My healer merc seldom gets below 50% mana and often starts beating on the mobs too.

Yes you can, I am at max level and use mercs. One tank, one healer and a rogue one. Main group is Ranger, Bst, Chanter.

Only because I really really dislike tanks (warriors, sk, pallys) and healers (clerics, druid, shamans) And bards. So my mercs take care of that stuff.

This is good to know. I have never tried to use a tank merc past 70 because they seemed to "fall off", but thinking back everything seems to fall off around that level /shrug.

I don't mind playing non-merc tanks or healers but it would be nice to have a group without one for a change.

I often play war, cleric, enc with tank, healer, caster merc. Mostly use my warrior for DPS and let the merc tank unless it is a named. The CC and extra healing helps but often is not necessary.

Well i am one who needs the automation shaky hands and arthritis. i miss keys all the time and mouse clicks tend to miss.
i have used redguids back in 21 had a very hard time with it. got it setup yesterday and from what i remember it is 1000% better now.
what i am looking for i guess is the easy to main toon with my others doing the most work. i dont want to use a 4th but if i did that would be my max. i am not looking to be uber mac daddy heh just want to do all the group content. i have 0 prob with taking it slow.
i set it up with bard mage and ranger all very low 40s ofcorse Jmercs and its just face plant easy at that lvl. i was MA ranger box bard and mage healer merc tank merc and caster merc but did not need the caster. that was with MQMerc works great

WHAT? healer merc hit Mobs?? is that in the AAs or what. my healer mercs just stand there and take the beat down and still heal

think i am going to try this team i do really miss my old enc from back in the dayLOL my fav way back when was the enc player charm. u could charm a druid if his nuke was the 1st slot who and what ever you sicked him on was dead!! thats why they got rid of it. only prob is no bard speed lol

I have no clue why she does this. I use no settings and just have her on "balanced". I am a ranger so maybe she feels bad for me? Only seems to do it when I am molo'ing with her and farming lower level mobs. I usually pull too many mobs and if they gang up on her she will start swinging.

I know when I first used mercs they would say something like she thought I had pulled too many mobs, and floating above my corpse a few minutes later, I had to agree with her. So maybe she got tired of rezzing me?

i would give a merc tank and healer, even with 2k AAs and sor gear about a 30% effectiveness vs a char. Low level, easy to let them PL you is true..

A merc healer (Journeyman) with necro works well if your pet is tanking. Rare mobs are totally doable solo in this manner.
