I have a feeling this is the wrong forum to be asking questions about compiling MacroQuest, hence if someone could point me to the correct forum I'd appreciate it, otherwise:-

I've a few issues, the first is I'm cheap ;) and thought I'd "try for free" before committing cash. I'm trying to compile using the guide on Git Hub, but am running into missing files and compilation errors which leads me to my second issue, which is I have little understanding of what I'm doing.

Anyway, before I bombard people with questions and error logs I thought it best I ask if this is the correct place.

Cheers,
Pauly

that is our "open vanilla" for folks who want to build their own version of what we offer without some of the goodies.

is that what you're doing? if so, what step are you at, what error are you getting?

RG != MacroQuest and vice versa even tho there is a lot of overlap. if you're trying to follow the MacroQuest instructions you might ask on the MQ discord, but we're also happy to help here

it is really easy to get and keep a lvl 2 with redcents

I hit you with a level 2 so you can use redfetch and try RG's compile without having to compile yourself --- you should 100% continue to try and self-compile if that is something you *wanted* to do, but this way you can decide if you just want to get playing sooner.

Thank you for the quick response, and the very helpful gift, it is very much appreciated.

Want to compile was not really in my comfort zone, but now it's become a challenge and I will beat it (at some point). I've successfully compiled both EQ and WoW servers on my Linux server in the past, probably more luck than judgement, so I have an unhealthy opinion of my own skills :)

p.s. you're gonna need to tell me about that pie you have for your avatar, plz and ty
That, my friend, is a Scotch Pie. Very easy to find in Scotland, not so much outside. Strangely I got "addicted" to them as a school boy in Wales, I can only assume the local baker was Scottish. Originally made with mutton, but now mostly with beef, they are great hot and cold and I highly recommend you try one if you can find them. As with all culinary treats, there are cheap and nasty versions, but a good one is to die for.

Your Mum sounds like a star, scotch eggs are also another gift Scotland has given to the world.

Hi Sic,

Sorry for the delay in responding, real life got in the way.

I'm following this guide to compile MacroQuest - https://docs.macroquest.org/main/building/

Once I've downloaded MacroQuest and then initialised and download the submodules I've then gone on to set it to Live (which is not in the guide) via

git -C src/eqlib checkout live
git submodule update

Which all seem to have gone as expected. The issues start in VisualStudio, I've set it to Release and x64, checked all modules are set to x64 and hit "Build Solution", after it completes I get 2 succeeded, 22 failed and 1 skipped. The vast majority of errors are

C1189 #error: Win32 Configuration is required to build this

Interestingly if I set it to Win32 in VisualStudio it compiles without errors, but the guide specifically states "Select the Release and (x64)configuration from the drop-down menu near the top of the window".

As I said previously compilation has now become a personal challenge, as you've kindly sent me enough RedCents to try the RedGuides version, there's no urgency for a solution to my issues. Once patch day is complete I'll happily install it from RedGuides.

Cheers,
Pauly
