Question - Looking for some advice on my group comp

Currently have worked with 2 groups :

SK/Zerk/Zerk/Bst/Brd/Clr

and

SK/Bst/Mag/Wiz/Enc/Clr

The first group is a classic MQ2 comp that produces some truly fantastic dps for sure. Really struggling with it though, my tank just drops on many nameds and due to aoe attacks with all being in melee the cleric often gets stuck spamming group heals nonstop instead of taking care of the tank. Obviously this is a popular setup but doesn't come into it's own until a much higher gear and aug level than I currently have. The second group does decent dps as well and seems to survive some really crazy stuff in comparison (enchanter can handle mezzing when I screw up the pulls so much better). As well as has a lot of great utility. But lacks the oomph of the first. I have started to camp augs for my tank and this seems to be improving things somewhat but I still have a ways to go. My goal is to complete as much of the progression lines from the various expansions on my own as possible.

Should I just push on through with the first? Is the lack of augs my real failing with this group? (Currently using TBM gear but lacking severely in slot 7 augs).

Would switching the Bst to a Dru in the second provide more dps in the second group? I kind of like the backup healing and tanking capability from the bst but obviously it is not optimal in this group.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I run the second group you listed and love it. The dps is nice and survivability and utility are great. I don't know what I would do without group CoHero and Teleports. Before EoK opened up on test I was able to beat two of the three final group challenges in TBM with that combo.

I could see replacing the bst with another wiz to increase dps some, you would still have a mage pet to do back up tanking. I think it's always important to prioritize gearing. So far I've had good luck putting tank first, cleric second, and feeding gear as it comes to the rest of the team. The tanks gear is super important to surviving though.

agree fully, tank first bar none, the rest can function with underpowered gear, I tend to do cleric next. then melee

Thanks, I guess it really is augs and not the group comp. Gotten a bunch of easier ones, but many that I want to hunt are locked behind progression or rare. Slowly working my way through what I can. Think I will continue to work on the second for now. The first is spectacular, pure brute force with no safety net (Zerks are crazy dps when they just unload everything at once and have good support). The second gives more options in terms of dealing with various situations.

1st group : 85'ish
2nd group : 90'ish

Same SK used in both. Been working on the HoT augs and am seeing a difference in tanking. The 2nd group just doesn't blow things up like the 1st does though. BST pet is well beastly though. Every now and then I forget to manage it and he is off soloing a yellow con np lol.

Is the tank a heroic? If so there are some easy AC aug quests for heroic toons in Feeroot. They're great filler until 100/105 or so when you can upgrade to TBM/EoK/RoS ones.

Otherwise, yeah camping AC augs is the life of a tank class. It keeps on going through all the expansions.
