• Hail, we're RedGuides. We want you to play six (yes, 6!) EverQuest characters at once. We have scripts and a friendly community to help, please join our playstyle and say hello! 👋
  • We've added LLM sections to our Terms & Rules and Resource Rules, for everyone's sanity & in-game safety.

    a. Do not replace your voice with an LLM. This goes for your posts and your scripts. Drafting and editing with a tool is fine, but don't take you out of what you share.
    b. Do not replace your EQ character's voice with an LLM. We don't want scripts that speak over /ooc, /shout or other public channels. This has been an unwritten rule that's kept casino scripts off the site for decades, but we're now compelled to make it clear: keep automated communication private.

    Why Does RG Review Scripts?
Nearly every LLM-written Lua script we see is making your character do impossible things, and rarely in a way that's beneficial to you. We've seen heavy server hammering, /target over impossible distances when /nav spawn would passively accomplish the same thing, a spawn search that fires 20+ times per second, and other pointless actions that are likely annoying GMs.

You are welcome to use LLMs as a tool to structure, draft, and edit your work, but please read critically before hitting /lua run

Hey gang! I use to do a bit of stuff till i kind of fell off to emu doing my own things and learning and experimenting with things. Outside of EMU dev work i really enjoy making MQ tools for my players and friends when they ask for some custom stuff or changes to things to better suit their play styles. Overall I just truly enjoy making things. One thing ive been toying with lately. Removing gui visuals ive never been a huge fan of those windows. They are absolutely best for what they are doing keep in mind with me saying that. Visually, though I just can't look at those windows anymore in 2026.

With that being said i had been exploring options outside of what i like to call primitive GUI windows. I found a very lightweight option that works alongside GUI and allows a lot more customization and creativity from people. What this system allows is for you to make windows in css/html instead of gui. Which, as you can imagine, opens the doors to insane amounts of possibilities and capabilities. For me, it brought back drive again in creating things and doing stuff again. Im in the final stages of testing/toying with things and finding my limits. Will soon PR it to the github to see if its something others would like to toy with or spark creativity.

I also understand some people don't like change and prefer their typical GUI stuff, which is why I opted to build it as a slide-in plugin for Verse MQ Core.

Below will be a of video showcasing what this system can offer, from basic window designs and styles to some more advanced, cool-looking windows without tanking fps values. A bit of tools will look unfimiliar or unknown as they are built for one of my servers.

I do like the look of rml - hopefully the integration will be easy to utilize. options and tools and whatnot are awesome.

how does your plugin integrate with Lua usage?

lol lets ask the EQ team how well that went.

> Will soon PR it to the github to see if its something others would like to toy with or spark creativity.

I'm totally wiling to give this a chance, but theres a minimum bar required for a plugin -- just use the plugin template (mkplugin) and use the proper header includes and library imports.

Your previous PR had fabricated tons of stuff that would never fly and would break frequently. Don't copy stuff from the mq repo, don't use cmake (its not actually supported, but its really good for catching rogue ai agents). Use visual studio solution files. ezpz.

You don't need to make a PR, just serve it up from your github repo.

GUI is a generic term, it means graphical user interface. If you're referring to something specific, like ImGui, then call it that, specifically. You're not the only one who has made a new gui system.

E9er,
That work looks very nice, and a lot of effort in many options, kudos. Its nice to learn about something new, new to me anyways. Is this requiring the new UI engine on (for Live) or its only for EMU? Did you dislike ImGui or the EQ built in GUI? Others have created imGui overlays to replace the EQ windows on here, but it still requires some EQ things to be 'up' just hidden under the overlays, does the RMLui require the same or how have you been running? Thanks.

Yea the first thing i sent in i even informed redbot was an utter mess of a concep/idea. I more so was actually trying to pick the brains of people to see if there was value in it to others as it was for me. It was never uploaded as a working model or a redguides plugin desired requirements. Thats on me and ive rebuilt a different version to be exactly how redguides wants it done. Sorry i uploaded the very slop version it was stil in development and thinking phases. Also still working on my autoport from imgui to rmlui so it can at the least port over to insanely basic windows. Most tools i can port over heavy tools like rgmercs require hand work.

So to be clear how my plugin is pulling this off. It actually requires my autoporter which ports over imgui windows to rml. This autoporter creates a folder of the original never touching that one. But, the auto port is what builds the file systems. Also with this system you can build entire ui in modern age looks. This is a very sloppy quick put together concept. 1791980443082.png

  • The plugin (MQ2RmlUi.dll) loads RmlUi into EQ and draws it with DirectX 9. It gives Lua a few simple functions: open a window from an .rml page with an .rcss style sheet, change the text in an element, and send clicks, drags and typing back to Lua. It knows nothing about ImGui.

  • AutoPort (/lua run autoport) reads an ImGui script's source code. It doesn't run it. It notes the windows, tabs, buttons, checkboxes, inputs and labels, much like reading a blueprint.

  • It then writes a new copy under Lua\ports\<tool>. That copy has an .rml page laying out the same controls, and a small Lua file that runs the tool's code. When you click a button on the page, the copy does what the old ImGui button did. Your original script is never changed.

  • A coverage check decides what to do. Things it can't redo, like graphs, give a hard fail. Things like popups, color pickers and sliders are marked "needs hand work". Hand-built ports are never overwritten.

Redbot was just encouraging you to keep moving forward with the idea, he's not the arbiter of MQ... heh

Actually none of the things I've said have anything to do with redguides. When I review stuff for MQ its as an MQ maintainer, not whatever it is I do here on these forums.

If your work isn't ready for review and you want to discuss it, then opening a discussion thread to look for advice is a good way to go about it, so what you're doing here is more appropriate than a PR or a resource submission.

Yea, that was my fault. At the same time im use to just making macros/Lua for myself/others. I dont normally toy with plugins other than my private ones i use personally. Def was not the proper approach and i prolly should of asked for advice on some things around sharing/picking minds. Noted for the future.

Sounds cool with your porter tool, ImGui overlays take a focus to get ahold and if you click in the wrong place it sometimes 'clicks through' to EQ itself, how is your tests working with that type thing?
Also looks like the vids are in EMU, not Live, have you done both?
Thanks for posting, I have been trying to learn IMgui and pushing what I can do with it, its amazing and am so happy at the upgrades our MQ devs have added, but this looks interesting as well.

I have found this to be insanely responsive in a lot of my tools which i could be playing mind tricks on myself but ive mentioned to Kaen that i do feel its more responsive on my clicks last week.

I am a Emu dev so i only play on emu and build mq for emu. The way i designed the plugin should allow it to be used on any build. It only checks for the build version. So editing that to live would allow it to work on live id suspect but that would need to be tested by live folks to know for sure. I can only guess/assume on how i designed it that it should be an easy swap of the build version.

it wouldn't work because live uses dx11, rof2 uses dx9. ImGui has two separate implementations of the overlay to account for these differences.

Its an overlay, just like ImGui, so you would have two overlays now. So probably the same or similar issues still :)

Been testing and pushing things to the limit. Found doing a ui system helps me find bugs much quicker and the errors I made along the way. A solid ui covers about all grounds on finding issues natively playing and just coming across them. Making a lot of progress thus far, nearing the end. Just some examples of the type of UI you could pull off with rmlui. Mind you, I kind of put together a bunch of random types to test for fps drops where my limits were. My biggest goal is to monitor FPS and such to make sure it's not pulling too much or at all. I will have better ui videos when i launch it in full combat etc. More so, a broader example of things you can do with it. Just adding in a little more crash-handling support on bad windows and stuff then it should be about a week out after I stress-test those.
