Hi.

Returned back to EQ after 15 years, having a blast, I am running a 6 box group (85 Heroic SK, 84 Clr, 84 Bard, 85 Heroic BST, 75 Zerker and 75 Mage) all going well, so I decided to do a Heroic Adventure . . . my did I come back to earth with a bump!, wipe after Wipe, my 85 Heroic SK seems very squishy indeed. I was going the HA the Hills are alive well they may be alive but I am sure as hell dead!

Any ideas where I can level instead as I was totally pwned here. Any advice greatly appreciated :-)

is your tank in heroic armor? Upgrade to voa armor now. It’s usually for sale on the baz pretty cheap. Gearing your tank should be your #1 priority at this point.

In Dead Hills, Skulk the Madaxe Heroics are far less forgiving than Gribble Grobblenobbers.

Try Gribble's in DH or Marla Gaslow's HA's in ETWK. They are easier overall (and pretty straightforward, too). I definitely was able to tank Gribble's back in the day when I first rolled a heroic SK (though I did get his 2.0 immediately, which helped with multi-pulls)

Yeah, it's insane how much harder the mosquitoes in particular hit inside Skulk the Madaxe's HA. It's definitely a lot harder hitting than even the hardest of Gribble's.

The 3 gribbles HAs (given by gribble grobblenobber - what a name), i was definitely able to tank with an heroic SK without too much trouble. Sometimes the named would eat me, and sometimes there are places where it’s very difficult to get singles, but otherwise they are all very doable.

I used to 3 box them manually before I found Mq2, with a heroic sk, shaman, bard combo using 2 melee dps and a cleric merc.

It is possible to get easier versions. Each task has different sections that spawn different difficulties of mobs. The second task he gives, for instance, it’s worth taking the time to get an easier instance. if you get the task with one toon, and zone in, if the mobs are white or yellow at the start, zone out and try getting the task on another toon. You’ll eventually get it so the mobs are the lower level mobs, and much easier to kill (in this case mosquitos) because the first section is the bigger section to complete, it makes the instance much easier to complete with the lower level mobs

I’d also suggest putting AA to 100% on your higher level toons and level the other toons to that level. These instances are set to the highest level in the group. Having toons considerably lower than the max, seriously gimps your output. Having all at the same level gives you the best advantage of easily completing them.

Make sure you have the heroic augments too, the AC makes a real difference. If you can find Glowing Reis in the bazaar that will be better than the heroic gear and will do until 92 when you can equip fear touched gear.

Having extra AA's on the tank won't hurt, either, while the others catch up.

IMO Leave the HAs for the time being. At 85 go hang out in House of Thule Court Yard. Static camps, can do Ruppoc’s quest for extra XP juice and faction (for the future). a decent write up is here. https://www.almarsguides.com/eq/leveling/HoT/Locations/HouseofThuleLowerFloors.cfm

Move to The Grounds when things slow down xp wise or green out. Rinse and repeat, at Morell’s Castle and the candy land bunnies. Thereafter Shards Landing (the weak ass mobs - beetles ) first and others to probably 100-102, and Brother Island to 105. Then you get into the EOK fun - scorched woods, droga, chardok, FM and the bi’faak camp.

Gribble / Skulk , Bixies, ETWK (wyrnwryr spider and fookin’ scarecrow) and the whole Tower of RoT can go die in a fire.

Gribbles are boring as fuck, but there’s no better way to level and gear up for those levels imo.

HA is not just in Dead Hills!!! Only Gribble is there. There are far easier HA for that level from Marla in tainted Karana or the Bixie Warfronts are both good if you want to start with HA. I had a hard time around level 85 with HA and found these to be much more doable. Everyone told me it was my armor or something else but I just found them too hard. Then I got one of the hot Daily HA from Clayton Teek in POK for Marla's. It was sooo much easier than Gribble. Teek offers 2 different ones each day, the exp comes at the end and is very good for your levels. He will also port you there which is a big plus for me.

But again the suggestion above about House of Thule is very good. Lots of nice drops in there and a good quest line.

Don't forget off zones like The Cooling Chamber or some of the tasks to get Gold Coin in Brell's Rest. There are some cool things to buy with those.

And Oceangreen Hills has a nice aug to work on and good armor - It would be borderline for you but that could work to your advantage

Edit - guess I was not clear - while the HA do give you nice experience if you do the ones from Teek it will give you bonus exp. Used to be around that level I could get 12 AA or more each one.

All, thanks for the input, I am now levelling rather nicely doing the three gribbles runs (yes very boring but good XP and buying some gear_ got to say I am running mq2eskay and its very good for these :-) thanks again for the input, Although it will be a while before I get to 100 or 105, any suggestions for where to XP and get gear from?

Those CotF expansion HA's will give you currency that will buy you a decent set of 100 gear and type 7 augs. - Around 100 (they scale, so you can start earlier if you want, technically) I would suggest finding the TBM missions that work well for you. Into the Temple B is pretty straightforward and a high amount of currency relative to difficulty and time (usually, drops are a little random).

A few favorites of mine to consider - Into the Temple (B) - Force the Forceful - Under the Robe - Bane of Decay - We Make Our Own Rewards - In Defense of Health - Fate Rewards the Bold

Itemization was pretty strange in TBM, but once you figure it out it's very easy and once again you can gear your entire crew with the currency you're getting from HA's (this is the last expansion that's an option). That said, even if you don't use this expansions gear, the introduction of Type 5 augs will mean you're going to want the Remnants of Tranquility anyway. TBM was very generous with currency relative to item cost, so you can bank up enough for an entire set of Type 5 augs in a relatively short amount of time. Type 5's allow you to stack heroic stats in an extremely significant way, and no expansion was easier to get a set of augs than TBM. From this expansion on, basically every equippable item has a type 5 aug slot.

Once you have your type 5's taken care of, EoK zones are very popular in the 105-110 range. Frontier Mountains in particular sees lots of traffic, but kind of 'pick a zone of the appropriate tier and go' kind of expansion, I would say. - Sathir's tomb in RoS expansion is another very popular spot as you get closer to 110+ (especially for bots.. high mob density). --- For EoK currency, and a quiet spot to grind some mobs, I really like the 'Goblins and Fools' mission. When I'm working up new characters, I usually run them through this a few times so I can afford the 36 slot bag from the Sathirs Trade Gem currency vendor.

Be sure to get the quest from Clayton in PoK first. Then ask Clayton to port you to the quest NPC. Do whatever HA he is giving out for the day if you can, RIGHT before you finish it (look up the HA to make sure it doesn't autofinish by killing a mob or something) cast Lesson of the Devoted on each character. Then finish it - you'll get double experience for both bonus and base mission which at 85 is about 70% of a level. Then if you have a wizard, bind him next to Gribble, then have him cast 'teleport to bind' on your group - quickly do Gribble's mission and you can get another 30% before lesson wears off.

You can use the currency you gain by doing Gribbles to buy gear too, the vendors are next to Marla (who almost assuredly you will end up visiting at some point by doing the daily doubles).

The daily HAs give a good boost to exp (especially with a lesson burn before hand in) and tokens, but it’s important to take note that the tasks he gives out are random from all the cotf (and later on tbm) HAs and some of the tasks will be an absolute nightmare. I suggest you try them each day, and take note of which ones suck to avoid in future.

go to a hot zone, pick one lower than recommended, go ape on dark blue mobs, when then dry up move one recommended zone up
mass killing in a hot zone is better than going to a zone where mobs are red and u take longer to kill, possibly wipe etc
when mobs go LB move up again, once hot zones are not worth the hassle hit the highest expansion u can handle , again dark blues
its all dominoes past 100 imo even w out getting PLd, also may be possible to let a merc tank instead of your sk (who prob has crap gear and low aa), until sk gets better

Thanks all,

Really good info, managed to make it to level 100 in my SK, using all the above info, I have also done some Temple(b) runs, however when trying to buy a augment, the seller ( in PoHealth and PoTranquilty area not showing me anything, I understand I need to unlock by visiting Plane of Hate (revisited) or Fear revisited, anyone knows of a good mission to unlock the vendor? Many thanks for any info!

SK now has 14,500 AA, 115,000 Health buffed and 2.8K AC, are those reasonable? (as per previous suggestion got most of the Heroic Augs from HoT). I also have AC food, AC Drink and Personal Tribute for AC

I do Into the Temple A, Seal of Approval, and Into the Temple B on my toons and get access to the Type 5 augs in PoHealth (that's all you need).

Great Thanks muchly, do you have any idea how many you would need to do?
You will average a little over 100 remnants per character in POHealth. And they are tradeable so you can put them all into one character and then the next etc.

Sometimes if there are no remnants in your bazarr for sale you can ask in chat if anyone wants to sell some to you.

Don't forget Heroic characters have access to certain augs only for Heroic made characters. Although they may be too low by now, they are rewards for tasks in Feerrott and HOT.

The amount of Marks of Valor you get from the HA in Tainted Karana seems to be less so it might take longer to build up for armor, weapons, or some of the cool things they offer there

For me after doing Temple(b) 1 time it always unlocked the armor in PoT and the augments in PoH. I know I've been able to buy on characters that had never even set foot in PoHate or Fear.

@Raelvictus call out in general that you’re looking to buy remnants of tranquility. You can usually buy 25k (enough for a full set of type 5s) for 50k-100k pp

if no one bites, wait until the raiding guilds on your server are raiding to call out in general again. Those guys usually have tons laying around

I recently looked at my remnants to get a new toon some type 5s... I had over 50k on each of my six main toons.
