Hail everyone and happy NY!!!

I'm returning after a few years, played last in 2024 if I remember correctly.
At that time, I did setup a dozen accounts and leveled up two groups using RGmerc or smth like that with a nice interface. I think toons were approaching level 100 but I'm not sure anymore.
I'm considering coming back to keep going and was wondering what's new, if anything has changed, if I need to know something important.

For context, everything in my setup was F2P and I was playing on live server. I think my objective at the time was to try and generate enough money to buy a super currency (Krono was it?) to buy a premium account thing on my tanks to get more AA or something? But I gave up it felt too hard after spending all my platinum on spells. I'm not sure on details but I think that's what I concluded at the time...

Anyway, I feel like diving again in this wonderful community!! All advice is welcome ;)

Have fun happy people!!

Krono sells for so much plat that you will have a very difficult time buying one to activate even one account while also buying spells and armor for all your boxes.

I've been enjoying playing on the test server lately, where all accounts are considered paid and players list everything for basically free in the bazaar. Items and characters can be copied from live servers, so items are easily acquired.

However ever few weeks mq will be unusable for a week or so. Depending on how much time you want to devote it may not be a great choice, but I think the trade off is well worth it.

I second test for casuals. I haven’t played for a few expansions now but if I ever come back it’ll def be on the test server!

People give away millions of plat and rare chase items. It isn’t as populated but most of us run our own groups anyway.

Accounts are only $15 (approx with tax) a month if you pay monthly. That is one starbucks or one sandwich or burro at a fast food place. I can give something up once a month to pay for that. It's when you get into 6 or more accounts that it becomes too many burros to give up.

So what you can do is rotate that one paid month. Joe is paid first month, next month Sam is paid, next month Gilda get the paid account and so forth. And during each chararacter paid month you hit auto grant to give him all the AA up to whatever level he is at.

If you can swing more than that then for a year it's only $9 per month but you pay a year in advance to get that so $119.

So you want one account to be All Access so you can sell in the baz. And a lot of players have the rest of their team filled out with free or silver accounts.

If you want to farm for Krono then the most common way is to find an out of the way (or a few out of the way) places on your server where lots of gems drop and go at it. The grounds is a favorite on many servers so you think it would be crowded but it's always open when I go there. Is a spot with a tunnel between 2 fields and lots of blue diamonds drop and occasional bag. Iirc it's about 20k per 30 minutes.

Checking what is in /barter and then go farm that if they are offering a good price - free accounts can do this. But if you cross check that for what that item is selling for in the baz then you may want to set up a seller for it instead. You would need an all access account to set up a seller.

Go around farming collection shineys - some of those sell well in the baz. Although players can get them via Overseer but you always need more and Overseer is slow so there are a lot more you need to buy or go farm yourself.

Play the market, like in real life, look for stuff in the marketplace that is underpriced, buy it and re list it higher.

There are other ways but bottom line here if it were easy 99% of the players would be doing it. It's very difficult to farm enough to pay upkeep for even 1 account. On most servers Krono go for about 5 million plat. That is a lot of farming and selling. It becomes a full time job. I quit doing it cause I had no time to play for fun.

You do not need every single spell, it takes a little research but you can figure out which spells are uselless or which will get a good upgrade in the next level and skip many of them that way.

So test server is a good choice, but I found it kinda bland.

Play on Test.. the downside is.. it is a Test server, so DBG changes stuff, and MQ has to fix what they changed. Other than that, you can /testcopy and go check it out, your char remains on live... If its not your style, go back to live server :hfive:

@strijd075 a lvl 105 or 110 mage can clear half of most hot zones in minutes. With the gems and trademats this generates (sell to barter on trademats) you can easily generate millions in plat in a manner or hours. Many ither zones with high drop rates for blue and regular diamonds to do this in…if you cant buy kronos using rgmercs you’re doing it wrong my friend (just don’t be a dick to regular barter buyers or bazaar traders). Get a ftp bot up to 110 in basic snowbound and weapons from that velious expansion and shit st the 65-85 range should instantly die…specially if you have ds or a pet with you…

Well fair enough. A few years ago I had tried to math it out and calculated that it would take me 2 weeks of straight grinding to get the 6 million plat that krono was selling for at that time. Maybe I was in a place where the money wasn't as good as I thought it was.

I have never noticed any good drops in hot zones specifically. Maybe that is where I am going wrong. The only thing I get out of hot zones is the armor to sell for like 10 plat to npc vendors.

@strijd075 here's an easy one...get a high lvl char 105+ in FM gear or Snowbound from TOV out to The Grounds (HOT) bixie camp with a healer merc...half hour you should clear at least 200k in diamonds and gem. Trick is to only keep the stuff that's high value (red/blue expansio diamons, or regular diamonds or blue diamonds. Bunch of other valuable trademat stuff there too...) just do an allakhazam on that zone...look at drops...then do /barter and sort high to low and look up the items that drop on that zone...whatever is selling well in your server keep...the rest get rid of...takes 10 minutes of homework and you can start you journey to...

Scrooge Mcduck Money GIF

Grab 2 or 3 extraplanar trade satchels from bazaar...usually sell pretty cheap or make your own...in fact...the trademats to make them drop there...the silk there sells pretty well usually a couple hundred plat per since the extraplanar trade ingredients drop in HOT expansion. If you wanna get even higher returns go to candyland...the summon arrows quiver for tanks drop there and those sell north of a few hundred K each...sometimes millions and drop fairly well...

Sky's the limit if you do a little homework.

If you hunt a couple zones up like 100-105 in Katta Castellim you can get armor drops, rank 2 spells plat items and xp all for level 100-105 toons. Then at 105 move up at little like FM or somewhere and get 105 drops and spell gems them at 110 you can do the same in GD and so on and so on. You get armor pieces to make, rank 2 spells so you spend less on Spells and armor. Get your collections done on every toon that helps. Kronos to Sub your account depend a lot on the economy of the server and if you can sell what you farm.

Hey thanks for all the answers!! I wasnt expecting so much enthousiasm ;)

I managed to get back in the groove and thanks for ever evolving RGmercLUA scripts, this thing is such a blessing for me!

For more context, I have two groups of toons. The first group is L96 and killing low blue l85 mobs, they give 0.031% xp per kill. Second group is L98 and killing l96 'relatively weak' creatures for 0.024% per kill. I tried a few different camps, but overall I found that its best to have it on the easier side with less ambitious mobs, less deaths to have longer unattended grinding sessions. Its probably because I havent done much script customization and my toons are most likely not optimized when it comes to combat routines. I try to stick to non aggro mobs without any nameds, those kick my ass pretty consistently. Equipment wise, my chars are using some set items I made research on last time I played two years ago, its called Boreal armor of the blablabla, I think it was pretty good at the time. I also gave them all the various "offset" items that drop from the rares in various zones.
I was wondering if that's 'normal' to be unable to tackle these mobs at that level. Any normal non-relatively-weak dark blue mobs feels like the ultimate challenge and any light blue named mob will usually kick my toon's asses. I was told around L100, you start to feel the need to pay a subscription to keep feeling relevant, is that what I'm starting to feel here? guess I should use your test_server advice and test it there ;)

Next to those two groups, I have my "main" old character which is a druid that I managed to level to 106 F2P playing solo with tank merc, he is basically killing things thanks to the PoK's mage damage shield buffs, otherwise he cant do shit hehe. I use him mostly to explore zones and look for new camps for my toons and yeah I have gone to places like the grounds with a damage shield and cleared some areas there, it gets a bunch of diamonds but nowhere near the millions of plats. That place is still a little too hard for my toons. I dont really know how much plat I'm generating because it's hard to estimate between buying spells, equipment and raw income but I have around 800k plat atm and have bought all spells up to L100 for all 12 chars so yeah I guess I'm generating a profit but I think it would take a few weeks to generate the millions needed to buy a Kronos. I'll keep going at it... This project's also helps me get a better feeling for the F2P/P2W/monetization scheme in this game to know if I want to get involved longer term.

Thanks for all the advice, I'm still overwhelmed by the general game, the million new zones to explore and learning lots of systems like the advanced loot window, the fellowship insignia teleport thingie, the overseer thing and many more I dont know about yet...
Oh and also thanks for /barter advice! learning about that too just now, its some kind of a reverse auction house? I'll look into it thanks

I'll keep you guys updated on my journey...
Sorry for the english mistakes and have fun all ;)

Do FTP accounts get access to Overseer? Maybe a lesser number of quests at a time? If so that is worth working up to supplement regular xp.

Assuming the above reference to candyland is Sanctum Somnium (or Morell's Castle?) for the Huntsman's Ethereal Quiver. I see a couple in bazaar on a live server currently for 500k - 1m. Not sure what they actually go for.

Yes F2P get 3 quests as opposed to the 5 that All Access get. Some Silvers get the 5 and some get 3 for some unknown reason. When you first start OS it seems to be less exp but it is still very good. If you can get 3 of the 24 hours ones each day and they give 1% then that is 3% a day.

Now when they run bonus exp that 1% per quest can jump to 3% or more depending on the bonus. Overseer is good cause it's mindless, just set it up, collect the reward, set it up again and forget about it until the next day. The 24 hour ones give the most exp.

Hey guys,

I have a bunch of general EQ game knowledge questions, not necessarly MQ related...
I'm asking here in case you guys can help me, if not, at least I'll have them down for future ref to ask elsewhere also ;)

1. Are lower level spells more likely to be resisted than higher level ones? example snare (DRU1) vs ensnare (DRU26)
2. What are the rules for mobs summoning players? I seem to remember back in the day around year 2000, mobs had to be 50+ and had to be injured to be able to summon players? that doesnt seem to be exact anymore, what governs mobs summoning now? cooldown etc?
3. what are augmentations? it seems like its like WoW's gems? as F2P account, I only find type7 ones, all other ones seem to be prestige and not accessible, is that correct?
4. do mobs ever "forget" about aggro if you outrun them a certain distance? or they remember forever until you zoneout?
5. is there a spell to zephyr a targetted player to the succor point within a zone? or do you have to group them to succor group spell?
6. How do melee players travel in this game? they dont have access to gate? throne of heroes, origin or wiz/dru friends? am I missing smth?
7. slow spells = "Your spell was slightly successful", what does that mean? can this be overcome?

Thx in advance!

#3 - there are actually quite a few non prestige augs. Just do a google search since the list very long. Or use Raid loot to look them up. In Raid loot you can toggle prestige on or off to help you find which you want and where they are.

Scroll down to Todjamsammys post in this link and there is a partial list. As you can see it is quite long for F2P augs. https://www.redguides.com/community/threads/aug-hunting-list-s.76115/

#4 it can go either way. I have outrun a mob or 2 and many times zoned out and when I come back it is gone. But on the other hand I have zoned out and on returning the mob is camping me. Just waiting. Some classes like Ranger have "Cover tracks" which means we can run away and cast that and it covers our tracks so the mob can't find us and gives up.

#6 there are tons of transport items. In fact you start with "Throne of Heros" at level 1. It is a special AA that will port you to guild lobby from anywhere. There are gate items, gate spells, gate potions you can buy to go to most zones (check the loyalty vendors and your guild transportatoin guy) etc.

#7 it means what is says. the mob is a little slowed. Sometimes the mob might have a shield or buff on himself that partially blocks your spell. No need to worry over it, just cast again. At least it's a little slowed.

@RobRenfro is 100% right on approach, stay away from ROS Frontier Mountains and Howling Stones, Cave in Great Divide in TOV is another one. Know bot dungeons and they get heavily policed. Last few GM /say visits I've received where in those zones and I wasn't even grinding in them. Stay clear of those two...

Basically anywhere where provider's bots are pwlvling for cash...pretty sure it's either him reporting you...or someone who thinks you're him probably will tag you.

1. Don't think so. But some spells have different resists or resist modifiers. For snares, I usually use the lowest level one with the duration I want (no sense of a 26 minute snare if not kiting). You will eventually get an AA replacement for the spells.
2. Generally lvl 50+ and damaged. But some mobs summon at 100%. Developer choice I suppose, depending on encounter.
3. Basically plugins for your gear. For non-prestige (FTP) they max out at The Broken Mirror. Type 7's are generally AC+stats, type 5's are for heroic stats. This is probably the biggest differentiator for unsubbed accounts. Heroic stats are quite important at later levels - your melee toons will do significanty lower DPS when limited to TBM type 5's.
4. Yes. If all you do is proximity aggro them and run far enough away they will generally forget about you. You will see them drop off your XTarget list in this case. If you cast a duration spell (snare or DoT) on them it might take until the spell wears off. Snare in this case is quite useful for pulling mobs with FD or other aggro droppers.
5. Not really sure. I have no evac'ers on my teams usually. And even if I do, I prefer to stand to my last man. Corpse recovery via GL or campfire is easier with everyone together rather than two different locations.
6. Guild Hall and Plane of Knowledge are your friends here. Be in a guild, or create your own, and drop a Primary Anchor in the guild hall (this pretty much requires you to have used a krono or sub to get some DBC to buy the anchor). Make sure to get a Drunkard's Stein for all your toons when the opportunity arises. This will give you a pretty much instant port to PoK every 30 minutes. From there you can use the PoK portals or go to GH if you don't have an anchor.
7. Slows are partially mitigated by most named and encounter mobs. The percentage mitigation varies.

AA's: This is the biggest limitation for true FTP. Unless you are creating a farming group that will be killing mobs 20+ levels lower, you will want to be maxing your AA's every once in a while. For myself, and likely most boxers that play live:
Tank: Always subbed, so that they can use prestige gear. The extra AC and heroic stats are critical. They will have max AA's.
Everyone else: Subbed once per year, after the newest expac comes out (if you are keeping up with live - otherwise forget this part). Then play like hell to get them maxed to the new AA cap before it runs out. If you can stand to, wait until a bonus period comes up. Can also rotate the sub so that you are only earning on one character at a time, earning the next krono as you go.

Hey guys and thanks for the answers!

My back-to-FTP-EQ journey is still going strong!
My 'main' old char druid is now L109 got convinced to do the artizan's price quests which is a whole journey in itself! He is also hunting stuff (castaway armor) for my toon groups. Now trying to start farming some conflagrant ores/silks/etc but those mobs are still a bit dangerous to molo comfortably.
My toons groups are level104s and 101s, hunting alarans to get exp and evolve the tear of alaris item. Its hard to estimate but I think I have around 2M plat atm which are probably going to disappear soon when crafting 12 conflagrant fullsets but I still hope to buy 1 Krono some day hehe!!

I got a 6 new questions for you all!!

1. about group compositions:
I'm currently running two groups (SK,CLR,ENC,MAG,BST,RNG) and (WAR SHM ROG MNK BRD BER) and my DRU is molo'ing other stuff. But as my toons levels approach my druid's, I was thinking maybe I could do 3 (or 4?) groups with mercenaries? More groups mean more kills, more loot, more exp? what are the limiting factors here? tanks? can RNG tank? what about MNK? what about tank merc (you cant precisely control tank's positionning can you?) what about other mercs? healer mercs give cleric buffs? are there shaman mercs? enc mercs? for buffing synergies?
what group comps would you suggest if "expanding" to 3 or 4 groups?

2. mercenary gear: is there any merc gear between L105 and L120?

3. charm slot: I bought a conflagrant charm item for my druid but it has zero stats since I have never done any Ring of Scale group tasks (I dont even know what those are!!!) Are all charms like that? What is the best charm item option for me that does no such group tasks?

4. What conflagrant weapons do classes use? for some classes/roles, it seems easy enough to figure out but I'm not sure for my bard? Do bards use instruments at all? What about a ranger, monk, bst (one hand or two hand)?

5. I was also starting to read about epic quests. I'm reading about epics on eqprogression site, is that a good info source? I read some classes still benefit from epics 2.0... mostly shaman, SK, bard so I was thinking about doing that. I was wondering if those quests are doable with my setup? Dont you need to go all access to get Agent of Change instances like iirc for the bard epic you need PhinigelAutropos? also does it stop at epic 2.0? or there are more 3.0 etc?
My druid has a staff of living brambles from 25years ago, I believe that's epic 1.5, I played him untill World of Warcraft came out, at that time we were raiding the uqua, inukta texcu tacvi. and Iirc, the latest zone(tacvi) was impossible, we could kill a few bosses in there but then it was unfinished content. Then they also released a new expansion with MataMuram and that dude was also unkillable... Everything was bugged at that time and the whole guild jumped ship to WoW real quick. I see I need some globe of discordant energy from that Anguish zone, can I get that as F2P also or do you need gold account to open raid instance?

6. My druid is an old silver account with 1400/1000 old AA from back then. Is it possible to reset those AAs and reallocate them to newer more useful AAs? I would gladly give up my delay death AAs for some additional spellgem slots or buff slots.

1a) you can def split those groups up if you want, but I think most here would say why bother with mercs when you can roll up new accounts.
1b) the biggest limiting factor will probably be your computer and how many toons you can run at once. make sure you use framelimiter!
1c) non-tank classes typically fall off being able to tank around 85-90 in my experience. baller/raid gear can certainly help with this, but might as well just roll up a tank class to help them out if it's an option
1d) unless I missed something big cause I don't use mercs, there are only cleric, warrior, rogue, and wizard ones.

2) not sure, but these drop in TBL. there's a 120 set too I think but I'm not super up on mercs

3) I think most modern charms require some set of achievement work, be it group missions or hunters or something

4a) I think a lot of people run dw 1hp for bards for fast proc action. I like to run the heal hammer on mine cause I stole it from tucoh years ago.
4b) afaik bards don't use instruments anymore unless there's a super cool and rare one I don't know about. the instrument mods are on their gear now.
4c) the ranger meta used to be run 2hp for the proc on cast since you're predominantly bowing and casting. I've seen some recently running a tap sword and shield combo that I presume is for hDex
4d) monks and bsts should be swapping between a dw set and 2hb set (mnk/bst weapons only for all 3) based on their active skills. cwtn does this for you once you set up your bandoliers

5a) eqprog is great
5b) epics should be pretty easy to solo or duo over 100.
5c) I think AoCs are locked to gold accounts, but you don't HAVE to have an AoC to do epics. there are also prequests you can do to skip the 1.0s
5d) there is an aug that people called 2.5, but afaik it doesn't change any procs (which are all you're using your epics for in modern game) so not worth doing. there are no 3.0s
5e) anyone can open anguish, you just need 6 toons in group to do so. these can be "ghosts" aka camped characters, but you have enough you shouldn't need to worry about this

6) not to my knowledge

Thank you for responding! It's always nice to hear our suggestions are helping.

TIP: Now trying to start farming some conflagrant ores/silks/etc - use your Overseer for this. You can select tradeskill matts from each expansion and with a couple characters you can get even more. No killing needed! Set it and forget it!! Reap the rewards! Soon you will be drowning in conflag matts.

mercenary gear: is there any merc gear between L105 and L120? - nope. But the level 120 and 125 is dropped AND buyable in the baz

charm slot: I bought a conflagrant charm item for my druid but it has zero stats since I have never done any Ring of Scale group tasks (I dont even know what those are!!!) - you can find the list of group tasks by going to /ach and scrolling down to that expansion then look there for tasks and/or missions

Are all charms like that? What is the best charm item option for me that does no such group tasks? - Most charms are a pita with requirements like that. I would suggest waiting for the Tides of Time Tower coming up soon and get some really nice charms for F2P and you can aug them. I don't remember them having the need for leveling up via tasks etc

I was also starting to read about epic quests. I'm reading about epics on eqprogression site. - that is one of the best but I always check 2 or 3 others just to compare. Most epic's can be solo'd now so you may not need to use your full group unless it is a raid that needs 6. I would suggest to stay away from the "pre-quests" you can do as they seem to have issues.

What conflagrant weapons do classes use? - hmmm I don't remember using any conflag weapons. I just hit the baz and buy what is cheap for my guys or google something like which 2 hand for level whatever and whatever class, read up and then go farm it myself.

No AA cannot be reset. BUT if you pay for one month you can auto grant and get all those AA up to whatever level you are. Then the next month don't pay and he will keep them. You can pay for another character next time and do the same.

Re AOC - don't bother with them, never have had a reason. Really see no need for them as most servers are not that crowed. You are going to need the character requesting the zone to be All Access. The others don't need to be though.

Thanks for the very straight to the point answers guys! Love it ;)

Just a few quick followup questions:

1c) what do you mean by "baller" gear? I'm not familiar with that jargon, english is not my native lang and chatgpt couldnt figure it out either ;)
4d) assuming I do not use bandolier (that's a system to create alternative gear sets right?) would you use 2H or dual wield on BST/MNK/RNG?
5c) Ah ok I think I get it.. That's what the "1.5 epic pre-quests" are for then? They allow to skip the heavily camped 1week spawn bottlenecky ultrarares in epic 1.0 quests? I'm soo used to these quests being only completed once a week back in the day.

1c) just a term for awesome gear. happy to know I confused the ai! lol
4d) sort of.. alternate weapon sets, not full gear (in case you're thinking of personas). If I were to set and forget, I'd probably use 2H on all 3, but someone more familiar with that era can correct me
5c) yep, you got it! though in some cases the prequests are worse than the 1.0. I usually just google "bard 1.0 vs prequest" and see what the general consensus is before deciding which to do (subbing in the class you want to know about of course). the few I know offhand are: the bard and rogue prequests are super easy, while the SK and BER 1.0s are usually faster. The shaman prequest is apparently just a good chunk of the 1.0 so people usually end up just doing the 1.0.

They allow to skip the heavily camped 1week spawn bottlenecky ultrarares in epic 1.0 quests? I'm soo used to these quests being only completed once a week back in the day.
There's been a number of changes to some of the very bottlenecked epics. Marl Kastane doesn't depop anymore, initially spawns faster on server up, the Wraith of a Shissir spawns in AoC instances (Agents of Change create non-respawn instances of raid zones), Vessel Drozlin and Verina Tomb have much lower respawn timers, Venril Sathir's Remains respawn faster, etc.; about the only awful bottleneck still remaining is the Kedge Backbone, but with AOCs to spawn additional Phinnys per week it's a much more relaxed bottleneck than it used to be.

When not playing on a TLP just doing the 1.5 prequests is still generally faster, though. The only thing you'll miss out on is being able to complete "An Epic Request" to get an Ornament of your 1.0 (you can still do it for your 1.5 and 2.0 once you've completed them, though).

just to clarify- you can still go back and do this later if you so choose, right? or no?

Yes. You can both repeat An Epic Request to get multiple Ornamentations, and you can go back and do the 1.0 later to unlock that Ornamentation as a reward for doing An Epic Request.

Just to clarify, Agent of change requires the character that need to loot the item to be all access correct? or can you ask an all access friend to open an AOC instance for you?

No , only all access can request it. Others can go in and loot but you all have to be in the group. Edit not sure on this point since in his video below he says his free ones cannot get in. But he is sometimes wrong

Edit will wait for someone who uses AOC to chime in. I do not use it cause the areas are not that crowed on my server so I can go in that zone/raid/mission when I need and do not need to pop my own instanced with is what AOC are.

This might help and is only a year old

Hmm... you sure about that?
in the video at 4:30 he tries and cannot zone in with his F2P accounts, only his all access account could request and zone in.

Did you see my edit? He is often wrong in his vids and I think this is wrong. Sometimes doing it ourselves is the best way to find out :)

Ok I found something from a few months ago where some player quit cause he wanted to do part of the Monk epic and could not zone in with his free account that was the Monk. And would not pay a month to log into the AOC.

Have no idea why he didn't just do it in the normal zone, I have on my monk and others and it was easy

So it looks like only All Access can request it but free players/online offline and mercs count for the total needed but free cannot zone in.

So doesn't the mob still exist in the regular zone, that spawns the epic npc to be killed on demand still exist? Harbinger of xxxx - The toon needing the quest piece hails, and an encounter locked mob pops just for them to kill and loot their piece - for example, Harbinger of Fear in Plane of Fear will spawn Cazic-Thule, or Dread/Fright/Terror just for their group, which drops the item needed. Pretty sure it's Definitely a thing on live, maybe not on TLPs.

lmao no

So.... Harbinger of Flame.JPG
This mob in Skyfire Mountains, which spawned a few minutes after Talendor was killed, is just a figment of my fevered Imagination? This on a TLP, post TDS. Harbingers spawn after the death of the raid mob that they can spawn, to reduce the bottleneck for epics of raid mobs that are frequently killed for people farming other stuff, like AoN in Fear. Kill the 3 golems, shade of cazic, etc., and you'll get one in Fear, Kill Phinny in Kedge Keep, and you'll get one there. Spawn times reported anywhere from 5 minutes to 25 minutes after. They also pop in Dreadlands (Gorenaire). OP is CURRENTLY playing on a live server, which where his question was asked about. These guys are NOT available pre-TDS on TLPs, you have to do the quests the hard way, which generally involve a raid force to do at level.
