Problem - Error Crashing Windows (EQ Only)

I am not using RedGuides or I am using RedGuides, the same thing happens. It only happens when I am playing Everquest when this happens.

I am sitting there playing EQ. multiple toons, and one or more of my screens freeze. Then my fan speed on my GPU speeds up to maximum and then both monitors goes black. After a few mins, the montiors come back on and any sceen that had a Everquest screen running has turned white and "relistFailed" error occurs. If this was happening on anything else that I am doing on my PC, I would not be making this post.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Doing ok. Just had my SI Joint Nerves burned at a ripe old temperature of 800 degrees Farenheit. Other than that doing ok. How have you been doing?

well i hadn't heard of relistFailed error before - but i'd start with the usual

- stuff i previously mentioned which you checked
- i'd check windows updates
- i'd check vid driver updates
- i'd check doing an eq file validation check via the eq launcher

If nothing that Sic recommended works, try renaming your EQ install folder to something like "EQ-old", then run the launcher and allow it to do a complete new install. I had something similar happen to me a month or so ago and ended up having to do this myself.

Regarding video drivers: If windows update updated your video drivers, and you were previously using a driver you downloaded directly from Nvidia (or AMD, seen this with both), it can cause problems. I would recommend downloading the most recent driver directly from the OEM and doing a clean install when prompted. I would also select to install only the drivers and not any of the extras, as those can cause problems themselves.

Lastly, based on the description of your problem, there could potentially be a heat or VRAM issue with your video card, though this is less likely than the other potential causes, assuming that its been working normally in the past. You could try removing it and running EQ just using the integrated video on your CPU. Even those are enough to run a single EQ client at 4k for testing purposes.

First let me apologize for being old, blind, busted, and old, blind, and busted.

It has done it again 3 times in the short time we have been talking. This time I closed out all the windows and didn't reboot my PC. Then after hitting "PLAY EVERQUEST" on the server select screen ...it crashes immediately and gives the error ResetDevice() failed! Hence, the reason for my apology. I am sure that the solution to this problem is different from what you have said due to my giving you the wrong information. I, profusely, apologize for that mistake and I hope you might be able to help me knowing the correct information. Again, I'm sorry and I hope there is a quick fix for this problem that just started out of no where. Something that happens, for sure, is my fans on my GPU spin up to 100% and then the game crashes. The only other thing that I can think of that has changed is that I have a new Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse from Logitech.

Yeah, this is a long-standing issue for EQ. Typically, I would run into this when switching from fullscreen to windowed mode or back again. Make sure all the toons you are running are all in windowed mode and using the same resolution, and that your game resolution is not larger than your desktop resolution. You can also try turning off anti-aliasing in EQ. Also make sure your graphics drivers are up to date. Oh, and if Nahimic is installed on your computer, nuke that crap.

It was mistaken. Once I thought I was wrong but I was mistaken! I have done a lot of things that were suggested to me and what what finally fixed the issue was I deleted everything NVIDIA from the control panel and then I downloaded a fresh NVIDIA Driver and I did a manual install and only let the Video and Audio drivers to install. Problem fixed!!

Thank you for all your support and for all of your suggestions on how to fix this issue. One thing is for sure ...when there is an issue going on with EQ or your PC/EQ issues, everyone pitches in to assist with a fix for the problem.

What finally did the trick was deleting all my NVIDIA Drivers and Apps and download a clean file from NVIDIA and did a manual install and only installed the Video and Audio drivers. So far, it has not crashed again, "KNOCK ON WOOD"!!
