Problem - Can't login if MQ2 is running, even directly through the launcher

About a week ago I was running Lua script hafmission with CWTN plugins. Things seemed buggy and I had been logged in for awhile so I tried closing everything out and refreshing injections, then tried to log completely out and back in when that didn't work. I haven't been able to log in with MQ2 running since. MQ2, plugins, Lua, and macros are all updated as of a few minutes ago. I tried a bunch of stuff that I'll list below but I've now confirmed that I can log in as long as MQ2 isn't running, I can't log in if MQ2 is running even if I try to log in directly from the launcher.

To clarify: I can log in from the launcher 100% of the time if MQ2 isn't running and 0% of the time if MQ2 is running. I have 100% success turning the problem on by launching MQ2 and turning the problem off by exiting MQ2. If MQ2 is running windows are launched for each character (whether I launch 1 or a multiple character profile) but they all freeze at black screens or the EULA. The RedGuides launcher can be active, just not MQ2.

Any thoughts on what might be broken? Is there a way to do a clean MQ2 install?

I know now that it is specific to MQ2 (even when I'm trying to log in directly through the launcher) but before I confirmed that I updated my graphics drivers, DirectX, C++. Toggled Windowsmode settings in eqclient. Uninstalled, deleted remaining files, and reinstalled EQ. Verified that EQgame and Launcher are both marked as safe for both private and public networks in Windows Defender (no other firewall or AV running).

what does "can't login" mean.

are you crashing?

do you have a crash id?

some people have issues due to running conflicting overlay software on their PC - like nahimic or overwolf

first we'll need to understand what "can't login" means, and then go from there to determine what is causing it

If MQ2 is running this happens even if I try to log in directly through the launcher. If I turn MQ2 off it fixes the problem.

define freeze. you can't interact with the game? you can interact with it, mq just isn't driving anything?
sounds like you have mq running as admin or eq running as admin. don't run anything as admin.

Freezes means it launches a black screen that never advances and I can't click off of. I either have to launch task manager and end task or click X to close the window. When I click X to close the window it says "EQgame is not responding" but I am 100% confident that the problem is MQ2. If MQ2 is active then EQgame doesn't respond, even from the EQ launcher. If MQ2 isn't active then EQgame responds.

I also just confirmed that my problem is with MQ2 a second way. If I close MQ2 and launch EQ with the launcher then I can log in with no problem. I can move into and out of the window into other applications with no problem. If I launch MQ2 then my game window freezes, I can't make my game window active again.

You should be using MQ and not MQ2 and then try loading using "Launch without Login" and manually logging in. I would not ever run EQ with MQ through the EQ launcher.

Alternatively, maybe create an icon with the patchme switch:

Target: "C:\Users\Public\Daybreak Game Company\Installed Games\EverQuest\eqgame.exe" patchme
Start In: "C:\Users\Public\Daybreak Game Company\Installed Games\EverQuest"

Obviously change "C:\Users\Public\Daybreak Game Company\Installed Games\EverQuest" to your EQ install location.

Last time I saw something like this they had an overlay program screwing up the game. They conflict with mq because they are competing for drawing inside the game. You’ll be suprised what kinds of apps will do this, so check all the programs that might be running in the background

It’s also not called MQ2 anymore

I changed the name of my Very Vanilla folder and did a reinstall from the RedGuide Launcher. It solved the problem. Not sure what changed or corrupted but it is definitely in Very Vanilla.

I'm using MQ. My apologies for using the wrong reference. To be honest I don't know enough to even know the difference.

this sounds like an antivirus holding something hostage or a windows folder permission issue

Add exclusions in your AV for the Redguides, MQ, and EQ folders.
