IRL - Can a Necro pet tank? (3 Viewers)

I've put together some off the wall groups in the past, thinking of doing 4x Necro, 1x Bard and 1x Druid. My concern is that the necro pets are possibly not strong enough to tank named in the group game. Anyone have experience with this?

necro pet is dps class sorta like a ranger, so if you want a ranger to tank, then go ahead

Necro pet can absolutely tank, but there's a caveat to it. You need to be running the best Raid level EM earring you can get... in your case x 4.
My advice is to put 1 mage in the party, 3 necros and the druid can buff / heal / port everyone Only reason being, then you only need 1 raid level EM earring for the mage and necros can just use highest group EM item for added DPS.

Edit... Then you also have baked in pet toys and COTH for what that's worth (huge time saver)

I'm not going to be raiding so I'm limited to the group EM ear unless you are talking about the chase loot EM? I think those are equal to the raid ones.

If you put a mage in the party you actually have a pet that can tank. And 3 DPS plus a second DS, pet toys, a lot there.

Well here is something to think about, I have a group SK, Mag, Shamie, 3 (count them) Necros. All have pets so I run with 6 pets and the slower group catches up for the fight. The Sk is the tank, I have use the necro pet as a tank this way. Necro #1 casts his slow dot and sends pet to tank. Necro #2 dots and sends his pet. Necro #3 cast fear and root then sends his pet. Mob turns and tries to run while all pets are beating on him. So far its worked out fine (as long as its just one mob). So I am thinking about dropping 1 necro and adding an enchanter for crowd control.

The enchanter has that funny pet the doesn't do anything till the enchanter gets hit. So most time he is there for the ride and to watch the fight. (he has score carts to rate the fight,)

I necro pet tank all the time (or I did when I actually played). You just keep the cascading rune shield refreshed. This is assuming you are talking about live/modern expansions. I do recommend a SK as a backup instead of doing 4 necros.

i think the general consensus is that multiples of 1 class in a group is just not a great experience if you trying to be a strong group.

depending on what your trying to accmplish you can most cetainly use a necro pet to tank ... again the highest EM ear you can get is important ... i run 5 necros and a druid for fun and i turn on pet taunt on all 5 ... it ping pongs agro and if things get spicy ill tap tank on the necro a bit to buy some time .... is it optimal ? no but its a lot of fun haha

The key to pet tanking is making use of swarm pets. I recently replaced a tank with a mage (no healer, btw) and it tanks shockingly fine by sending swarm pets in. Necros aren't mages, but they certainly have a similar amount of tools to summon swarm pets, with an added bonus of being able to drop aggro at any time.
Imo, replace one of the necros or the druid with a mage. Coth is so useful and they just scale with each pet that's summoned (6+7 from bard, 1+5+? Per necros, 1+2+8 from the mage... Huge damage).

that would be druids, but yes
