Question - Calling a char to assist melee rather than autoassist...

I am 4 boxing a group(120 sk, 120 mage, 120 cleric, and 110 bard, and mercs).

I am using KA for mage, cleric and bard( I have it for sk but tend to operatre sk manually).

I am having an issue where I am clicking on mobs to check(con) them, but my bard is taking that as needing assistance
so attacks. My other two are casters so I have MeleeOn=0.

I want my bard to melee when I am in a fight, but when I am just considering mobs to decide on the fight or what, I don't want
him to start the fight after I have moved elsewhere(so he dies, usually).

Am I overlooking something?

Are these mobs inside your camp radius? Is your AssistAt setting configured to be 99 or lower? Does the bard run out and melee the mobs or does it cast a damage song because it's already got a twist running?

If you're trying to consider mobs from a distance and they're outside the camp radius, the macro should not be attacking those mobs. If they're inside your camp radius and you're set to assist at 100%, the macro is going to consider it a valid target when the designated tank selects it as it's target.
 
The bard's assist level is 95, so I don't think that is the issue. I did lower it a little tho.

The Bard's Meleetwist was set to do the bard's AoE Dots first(which might be it). I changed them
to last.

The most recent example (prior to this change, that will happen next time I log in) I was up the outside of the mountain
in GMM along one of the paths. I targeted a mob at the bottom to see what it was. I then move on and the next thing I
know, it is on my ET window and the bard is almost dead(dead soon after).
I don't know if this is within camp range(I don't set up official camps, in GMM I tend to just wander around). Now I know
it could consider distance to MA as the camp radius, I don't know about that tho.

Other than the dot order, is there anything else I should check the next time I play?

I finally got back on and tried a few things.
It appears that it does seem to be the AoE dots.
To test, I grouped at zone in for GMM, got the macros going. I had MA target the nearby "A Clockwork Captain", nothing else,
just MA targetting it, which set bard to target it and eventually do a dot.

It appears that it switched from its normal twisting of songs(which has NO dots) to melee twisting of songs(which does).
I don't know why it decided to switch to the melee twisting.
It didn't switch right away either, I had them targetting the captain, I did not click attack and eventually he decided to switch.
I thought it wasn't supposed to switch until after combat had started.
And it appears to have continued in melee twist even after combat has ended.

After I started the macros, it said "Starting normal twist 3"
It then sat there for a bit with MA targeting the mob, which caused the bard to go ahead and target it.

Now here I am just standing there, with mob targeted and bard playing his normal ooc songs.(This was 30+ seconds)
Then, for some reason, the mob is attacking, so I go ahead and attack it back.

I check the bard's MQ window, and it doesn't seem to be starting melee twist till after the fight is going. This made me check something else,
cause with this testing it didn't seem to be attacking bard first, it seemed to be going toward mage first.

Now could the buff "Volcanic Veil" be the cause? Mage is buffing his pet with it. It says flames will frequently lash out at "attacking creatures".
Could it be targeted or random creatures, rather than attacking creatures?

If I eventually want to try boxing higher level zones, I would like to figure this out.

Changing your MeleeTwistOn setting to MeleeTwistOn=2 will start your combat twist when there are mobs in the xtar window, rather than when "you're in combat". I've found it a little more reliable.
 
I changed my MeleeTwistOn setting to 2. I am seriously thinking the problem is with the mage's spell Volcanic Veil lashing out at
the target, even when not in combat.

I will probably have to consider when to have it cast this buff.

Should drop Twist altogether and switch to Medley, IMHO.
