Coming back have started my new group from the beginning and just realized I have a few alts that have gifted over the decades and thought to myself - Why not? Many years ago there was an old guildmate that only played 6 mages that blew stuff up, during the Plane of War era , her ended up making a real tank. This group is not going to conquer the world just add a bit of diversity. Any thoughts would be appreciated
105 Shadow Night -0 AA since he was played and retired b4 AA became available
98 Bard- Same as above
105 - Mage boxed for a bit
85- Mage Heroic character Never Played
90- Mage Heroic Character played for a short time when they were introduce
( last slot either 91 shaman, 85 Wizzie(2). or another 85 mage , or 84 cleric)

same as all the other answers

- play what you enjoy
- cover your bases (tanking, heals, CC)
(in current game)
- 3 matching classes is a waste, 2 is *probably* a waste
Shd/Shm/Brd is a powerhouse - but it takes a little more work than a cleric --- once you get to 101+ you will have an easier time solo healing --- fortunately shd really helps with all their taps.

I would Shd, Shm, Brd - and i *guess* 3 mage.

I am personally a fan of having shamans with my SK's. You should have at the least auto granted AA's. Memory tells me that AA's came around Luclin era and I think that was level 60.

Kinda confused here. AA started in Shadows of Luclin (expansion #3) and at that time the level cap was 60. So you are saying you played the SK to level 105 The Darkened Sea (expansion #21) and did not get any AA? If he is level 105 then he was not retired before AA became available.

The 85- Mage Heroic character and the 90- Mage Heroic Character would have been given all the AA up to level 85 when they went Heroic. Even if they were free to play the Heroic overrides the AA cap on Free to Play.

Sk really really need AA and for him to have 0 that means your are fighting against yourself. AA are going to be the top concern no matter what the group make up is. If any are going to be paid you can auto grant.

Just something to keep in mind.

With SK, bard and 3 mages, I would think a healer for last slot. I would probably swap out a mage for a BL, for more mana regen.

Maybe he was FTP is all I can think of but do they still get some AA?

Not many, 250. But he said it retired before AA became available which would have been the first or second expansion. If he came back on that same account it would be Silver and he would get 1000 AA. Being that SK is now 105? Maybe he just means he doesn't have hardly any and its just how some folks phrase things, like none meaning such a small amount it may as well be none. :)

You need a tank/healer; everything else is optional. I can't think of playing without a bard simply because of the double invis and bard speed. My current group is SK/CLR/BRD/ROG/SHM/BST. I can do all group content in ToB. I'm on test, so I use all the CWTN class plugins. I set the shaman up on hybrid loadout, and he adds a little DPS but also patch heals when I inevitably pull 10 mobs.

Shaman for the last slot is my vote. Reasons why are:
1) slower
2) healer
3) can buff the pets with melee buffs
4) group pact of the wolf adds haste to swarm pets
5) no mana issues with cannabalize

You may want some ftp buff characters too for mana buffs when you start your session.

As others have said...

Play what you enjoy. The more I test out various group combos, the more I find the DPS differences don't change much. Gear and AAs make way more difference than your actual group makeup.

That said, Shammy makes the most sense if your looking for a balanced group (rez, slows, heals, aDPS), especially if your starting with a tank with no AAs. I've been having fun recently testing out a 2h DPSing Pally as the "rez healer" comboed with a SK tank... but I'm also using a BST for the aDPS and slow component.

Sadly class stacking isn't very often the way to go since "synergy" effects don't stack and provide way more benefit than "alliance" abilities.

You definitely want to give that SK some TLC if he doesn't have any AAs. A SK can essentially go without a healer with top of the line group gear and AAs, but your going to be hurting until you have them setup.
