I am not positive, but in a nutshell my understanding is this: No items in ammo slot will give you stats regardless of what the item says. Skill mods do work from ammo slots.

The MQ2 community is a very large one. I cannot see SOE ever eradicating it. The best they can hope for is to eradicate a large portion of the active hacks. I would go as far as to say that there is enough people with drive to hack EQ, that soe will loosen its new found crusade to fight first...
