Question - XP Penalty in CoTF/TDS/TBM zones?

I've seen recent references to an XP penalty post 100. Can someone explain what that is all about? I've never ventured into lvl 100 content before now, was on hiatus for 8 yrs.

I assume it depends on the zone (expansion), and if you are grp'd with someone 100+.

Please elaborate.

short version...

If you're over 100 and not in a CoTF, TDS, or TBM zone you're probably not doing good.

Long version:

Sometime after CoTF and before TDS (I think) the decision was made that post 100 the mobs below CoTF would give less experience than mobs from CoTF on.

i.e. to use made up numbers - If killing a level 100 mob in CoTF gives me 10% of a level, a level 100 mob in VoA or RoF would only give 5% even though it's the same level.

I believe at some point they reversed part of the nerf but I believe it is still noticeable.

The offset is that the previous expansion mobs also die faster and so you can make up the difference in killing rate and also tend to be less occupied.

In addition the penalty would influence pling. If the group contains a level 101+ in pre-COTF zones, the whole group experiences the penalty. They've reduced the level of the penalty but it is still very noticeable.

yup, but if you use Fellowship you will never notice the horrid exp loss!

this was when they were trying to nerf the PLing market, while also promoting Heroic toons, and discounts on XP potions.
