This is how the world works. If someone can do something you can’t and you want it, you pay for it or learn how to do it yourself.

If you can’t or don’t want to waste time and energy to keep up with it buying is a great option for people. I’m smart but sometimes I want to enjoy the game and my hobby and not put so much effort into it becomes a job.

Well aware, my friend, and I appreciate your perspective :)

Just a few ideas..unchartered territory is amazing. Deeper storylines can be written for people who love lore or always wanted to tell a story. More instant action with less grind for others. EMU provides something that SO many fantasy games have... a 6 man team. Pretty normal for many games. With MQ this has been our way, for me I think I prefer that manner over multiclass, but no reason to fight, you can have BOTH. DBG are idiots to not have a MQ 6 man game.

The ultimate goal should be to preserve our style of play, but if people want to expand into zone design, quest writing, lore, textures... there's a lot of creativity in this community we could unlock. And I will play on FroggyWorld!

Redfetch setting up a local server would be pretty nice, especially with a choice between Windows and Linux... Finding information on discord using search is third rate at best. It's possible that I am just old and stuck in my ways.

Absolutely, I want emu servers that are as easy to setup as a Minecraft server. And everyone here is old and stuck in their ways :)

My "big Idea" would be a launcher of sorts for Emu servers that RG supports.
Many (most) Emu servers have custom content and have a number of files that need to be installed over or with the original client files.
The RG Emu Server launcher would have a curated list of servers to choose from
The end user (me or you) would need to provide a zip or a folder where a clean ROF2 client lives.
The first time a user selected a server, the launcher would copy the rof2 files (or maybe symlink?) into a server folder and install the patched files
Somehow the MQ autologin needs to work with this (I'm kind of fuzzy on how that would look). But it should be easy to take an existing account and create new characters on a new Emu server and have it patched and ready to go.
Curation is important as no two server operators patch in the same way. Some provide files in Discord Servers, some use Google Drive, some have a web page. This would help.

This is good, just something nice to help you get setup and in-game.

Fully agree, Boxing our style with what exists and pushing forward when possible (I know its being worked on, I did some peeking) to past DoN, even past RoF..this is the ultimate way EQ will NEVER die. DBG cannot stop it, as it can exist on anyones computer. You don't have to be on a 500+ population server, can be just you, can be 10 friends. RedGuides helping MacroQuest is a bright future.

My talk about mods and such is past the expansions and 64 bit client and current things, but definitively a future. So many OLD games have endured because of it... Wolfenstein and DOOM still get things made for those. Diablo 1 has mods..etc. New GM tools ala Spire, in game can help the average player who has technical difficulty but inspiration to create quests, or interesting instances that can be bundled up to a little RedFrog NPC that you RedFetch into PoK. Or make your own, but that would become chaotic if so many NPCs. An OldMan MacKenzie type would be the guy. Feel all alone and simply miss 'people' chatter in OOC/General? Well how about you are on your own EMU, JUST you...BUT...you add on the CWTN Talkie plugin that connects to Discord. Wow..now you have chatter back with actual friends and near zero lag because you're on your home server. Small examples for things. We have so much that will fill our boards with code goodness. Small steps at a time, I know. <3

And of course, we shall hope Live MQ does not fall to the wayside. DBG will be to blame for their own demise for that anyways, not any players (even those obnoxious White Knights). 🐸

Interesting idea. Great for chatters and lurkers lol

Could even go a step further and link in the accomplishment spam like in a guild chat

Just one idea, but yes, thats the jist of it, to pump into a channel or even populate your own General or RG Chat channel, etc..your favorite community.

Anyone know how difficult it would be to join all of the emu servers into chats that you could join? Similar to joining other servers general chats on live?

Seems like you could make a discord that feeds all EMU channel chat into it. Not sure what sending it back would look like tho.

Live side everyone understands. EMU though, has a stigma of feelings of a TLP or shoddy only online for a month server where the owner will drop out and then all your play evaporates. Those are valid but there is more to EMU than that, and a lot has yet to be explored. EMU is a two fold, MMO and personal server version of the game. RedGuides needs time to find their path as well as what we members want.

Some thoughts:
yes guides and new very simple setups for both style EMU will help make people be members as well as share what they build. Nothing exists that I know of for 'Resources' that would Mod an EMU, so in time it could be a path. Example, Red, I made FroggyWorld, wanna come play on my server or I just posted Froggy World Mod. Where you play as Frogloks have taken over as the dominant race, swapping NPC models in Freeport with Frogloks. A small story build around it, tools that can eventually be built to make this type thing. Yes its in the future and my example is a bit grand in concept, just trying to push the concepts.

  • Smaller mods, things that can be done in current times (and actually exist now): RF go download the 40 slot bag mod so your EMU can have those. I click Watch, open RedFetch and it asks me where to put, and Boom.. when I start MY EMU (MMO or personal) my server now has 40 slot bags.
  • New NPCs to help things function easier until we have the newer expansions.
  • How to setup your own AllaClone (Allakazam, these exist) or personal Magelo (also exists). Easier and maybe more modernized versions.
  • New Guides to help us fix issues (like a double NPC) in game, how to simply delete one is a giant helpful guide. OR......new install methods where things are easier.
  • MMO guides with the big picture in mind. Want to run a server for 50+ people, here is how I did it through AWS or whatever.
  • Personal server setup for just you AND the easy ability to let your friend(s) jump on. "Dude, I gave Nagafen a new home in Commonlands and he has 20 Drakkin guards loyal to him' Come jump on my server tonight and lets kill him. This is awesome man, submit your Mod to RG for Redbot's Yearly Mod Challenge.

Yeah, this has been my perception of EMU - nostalgia and TLP-focused. Here today, gone tomorrow. Which is why I've never been interested. I don't want to go back to pre-Serpent's Spine EQ. I understand there is a number of people who like TLP and the nostalgia it brings, but I'm not one of them, so I'd ask that a server for those of us devoted to modern EQ be considered.

Assuming shooting for the stars a couple things <and im not reading the OP incorrectly>:

Out of box install redguides server install with some basic server options such as:
Progression options built in as a selection Start with classic <including pre-revamped CT/Paw Hate/Fear being 1.0 versions pre-velious>.
Start select server at "X" base <Velious / PoP / Maybe up to TSS if it ever gets that far>

Type:
Private - You and those you allow can play on the server
Online - Anyone can join

Server difficulty levels built in:
Easy - Solo/duo
Medium - 6 box
Hard - Everquest Live style difficulty raid <54+ player raids>

QOL:
Easy - Hub zone - #zone - Zone instances - auto skill up on level - start game with Tink bags + J boots etc + OOC regen
Medium - Hub zone - Translocator to cities - Zone instances + OOC regen
Hard - no hub zone - no OOC - No instances

Essentially a plug in play version of running a server using box software in each.

The community could then in theory tweek the game further to either be a more custom experience or just run it with a few select players. Making easy solo for leveling but duo for hardest content keeps the feel of boxing and playing in a team, which is core to EQ, somewhat in tact. Medium sits as a good middle ground for a lot as getting 3-4 buddies who might box a toon or solo yourself botting 6 instances is fairly stress free. Hard being for those who want to box armies or have 9 buddies willing to 6 box together that want to feel the full Everquest Raiding Experience.

Both of these can be combined. A Hard difficulty with Easy QoL or vise versa.

All of it ideally fairly easy to navigate and install.
