Question - What to box with a necro main? Live

What’s everyone’s opinion on what to box with a necro main? I guess the no brainer is a passive bard for the extra DPS and utility. Or rolling a healer to match with my warrior and necro… I really don’t know.

I have a FTP (stuck at 115 for now) enchanter, mage, and warrior. When boxing them through ToV they really didn’t add much to what my necro could do molo which is why I left them behind. A little extra DPS plus some utility. The warrior was the most worthless seeing that I could pet tank most mobs including named.

The main reason of wanting to box the necro is to open up doing some missions (other than the cloak mission that I can already molo) on my own. Having the warrior to tank multiple mobs would be helpful for siege seeing that my necro pet can’t handle multiples.

The second reason would be to speed up grinding kills for my cloak or PH clearing. It is slow going moloing with my necro but 100% possible to do molo. I’m even able to clear raid trash for luck aug and type 18/19 solo but again it is slow going.

I appreciate everyone’s opinion on this. For the record I love playing the necro and it’s solo/molo capabilities.

From what you've described might be worth going with Bard, then add Healer merc and Tank merc to help you out. I don't know what a tank merc in a raid zone for aug hunting will provide.

Else ... go to CLR merc + DPS merc and update your Warrior.

Bard would be my first choice. If you think about adding upto creating a full group: shm, tank(I prefer sk, but probably because I am happy with mine and never tried the other 2), and 2 mages or necs. If you choose a Tank you may need to consider to sub him.

bard or enc...then cleric

bard and shm imo. like youve said a necro is so self-sufficient all your really looking to do is accentuate certain things and add some utility ... the bard does what the bard does its a must in any box imo. Having the shm adds extra dps and heals as needed plus some buffing to compliment a cleric merc buffing. with those three all your bases are covered ... just my two cents

Yeah think I’m going bard and Shm. Might throw my warrior into the mix later on.

Agreed! Might need a tank for harder stuff and already have my warrior close if I need him.

I would think a tank class somthing that can taunt and keep the mobs in control . AND bard is always nice... with a tank ya can do missions .

If you have a WAR and a NEC already, i can see adding the bard but you are lacking on healing. Most mobs can be single pulled now adays at various camps, so i would same SHM.

If you want to trust the CLR merc, then go for the bard

i mained a necro for years - i always had a cleric box (because i played back before shm had rezzing or rez stick and all that jazz, so it was "safe" plus added huge flexibility for joining people or raids - later on i added a bard which was awesome - bard on follow (before i was MQing) singing speedy / dot enhancesongs so i could dot-kite was AWESOME

if i was smol boxing and still nec maining I would at least have a shm and bard for the reasons mentioned. if i was building on that, would probably toss in a bst and a mage, and then a shd or pal

shd/pal, shm, bard, nec mag bst = win

shd/pal, shm, bard, nec mag bst = win
I've been considering a team much like that, minus the BST. I have a few questions:

1. Does standard KissAssist allow your bard to do crowd control or do you use something else?

2. I'm not super familiar with the BST, but its buffs seem like largely a subset of the SHM, at least in the early going. I do like having the strong pet since you have the magician in the mix which makes it even stronger. What are the strengths of the BST that get it into your team over other alternatives?

3. Also, how automatable is the magician pet toy distribution with KA? I've manually 6-boxed a pet-heavy team before and pet toys are super annoying to fiddle with all the time. I will be super happy to try again if I don't need to think about anything (except .ini setup).

Thanks.

From what I understand and know, the merc tanks fall flat on their face after a certain point. Even the teir V we get now by default. Not sure if merc gear helps, but I would guess not by much. Mercs were not meant to replace players throughout the entire level range. (unless something there has changed). I would opt for two more boxed. One being cleric, and the other being a warrior/sk/pally in that order.

1. i don't use kiss, but did, kiss works fine
2. early sure, later game no, one is a priest and one is a hybrid dps
3. yes they do

Very automatable! This isn't "current content" but I Kissed a Magician up to about 65 and found the pet management stuff very enjoyable in KA. Take a look at a few of the MAG .inis in the library to get some ideas but it does work well.

3 bards and 2 mercs, or 1 Merc and shm.
Or you could go a bard and shm, and another nec or 2 since you know them and would have the extra tank
Or as said SK, brd shm and mercs or whatever.
