Question - What am I getting wrong?

So every ini I copy and paste into my player folder will buff fine, but that's it. My toons won't dps at all. I have tried many different ini's and the problem remains the same. As far as the process, I'm pasting the ini, saving it, then i run /mac kissassist. I do this without a target first, then i do it again on my MA.

The fact that dps doesn't work regardless of the ini I choose leads me to believe I'm doing something fundamentally wrong. I have read the guides, and as far as I can see, everything looks in order. Any suggestions?

your kiss ini will be your kissassist_toonnanme.ini in your macro folder - is this the place you are adjusting/placing your ini?

are you sure this is your kissassist_toonname.ini in your macros folder in the directory that matches where you are launching mq2 from?


You can check this in your redguides launcher under the settings tab

as you can see, on this particular PC C:\Users\Odii3\Desktop\Odii3\MQ2\Release is where my directory is located

which would make my kiss inis go in C:\Users\Odii3\Desktop\Odii3\MQ2\Release\Macros then kissassist_toonname.ini

I'm sure I'm putting the ini into the correct path. Like I said, they all buff fine, but for some reason neither my enchanter, nor my mage will dps correctly. My shaman, on the other hand works Great. I just can't seem to catch what the issue is.

Was hoping the ini's provided would be sufficient for lvling and then I could customize and tailor my own personal ini when I reached a point where it would not be ever-changing. At any rate, at least this way I'll get a jump on that process.

But don't get it twisted-configuring ini's is like a trip to the proctologist as far as I'm concerned, LOL.

yeah, theres zero QA/QC done on the inis in the library other than what the author is willing to do after uploading. Anyone can submit whatever they want without oversight.

I basically run the same path you do, @SA_krycek ! I found the .ini's, copied them into my file, and let em run. I noticed over time, however, that my enchanter .ini specifically has brain farts along the way. Almost as if it gets stuck in a task, and won't move on until that task is completed. What I found, after watching my MQ2 window, is that it'll try to mem a spell, or cast a spell, get interrupted, and then just hangs. If I manually mem the spell, or cast the spell it tried, it'll pick back up again.

In a group context, sometimes it won't want to DPS. I've found that if I force it to cast a spell, it'll just cycle through everything right after that. I have no idea why, but my "solution" is to just give it a good ol' kick in the pants.

Also, not sure if it matters, but I always turn DanNet=1. Helps me see what my toons are doing, without having to tab around.

I haven't run casters much recently so not sure if this applies as much as it does to melee/hybrid - but i personally prefer dpson=2 instead of 1 (at least for not-low-lvl dudes)

You could also consider using another macro or plugin that does more "for you". IHCMercs is an alternative that is less flexible but also handles more out of the box. MuleAssist is a fork of KA, but comes with an ingame editor, that can be nice too. Then there's the CWTN class plugins too like mq2monk that deal with most of that stuff automatically; though those are paid they come highly recommended.

I have ESKAY and I love it. I really want them to finish the enchanter one as I will snatch that up in a hurry. I watched a video on MuleAssist, but I didn't know if it was still viable. Really liked the way it looked as far as how the editor worked. IHCMercs I had no idea about. My biggest problem is my lack of knowledge as it pertains to actually makinf ini's work effectively. I can plugin spells and such, but optimization for classes I have never really played solo is a hard thing for me.

I think we all run into that issue, especially with all the AAs they've added over the years; everyone's group is going to have some variations in how it's played as a whole. If you want a good group, you have to understand what KA is doing AND have a basic understanding of the classes. For the first issue, Maskoi made a great post detailing what each line in KA does. I like to open my KA files and check my lines vs. the descriptions in @Maskoi's guide once in a while to make sure that everything's set up right and I'm not making assumptions based on the line item. As a new user, that's a key step for you to do right now. There are numerous resources to explain conditions, which is where KA really starts to feel rewarding and like more than just having your characters pre-programmed to blow through spells when they've got a target. For the second issue, looking over others' ini files for a class and looking up AAs on raidloot has helped me wrap my head around the classes that I never played back in the day. Set the last search option to "All Max Rank" to make it easier to read.

There hasn't been a single ini file that I've used as an out-of-the-box solution due to these factors.

I actually have more fun getting my characters to play well as a group than I do playing the game myself! Without MQ2 & KA, EQ wouldn't be anything more than a nostalgic game I'd want to log into once in a blue moon where I would visit a couple familiar zones and get goosebumps at the loading screen/theme music, then uninstall within an hour.

I agree with Siv. I use the Kissassist.ini files as a guide. Hell I even made a few while I learn things. Just remember that they are guides. The ones I make are more general in scope. So what I usually do is look at a few of the examples for the level and then what things I have for the character (spells, AA's, and combat abilities). If any conditions are used and how they were put together and what is the end effect. Then I just cut and paste out of the InI file what I need. If its just a condition then that is all i need. If its a spell gem line up or some DPS settings it all cut and paste.

I don't cut and paste the whole InI file. I just use parts as needed. Another thing is your group make up, Example: Druid and Ranger in a group some spells are common to both so who casts what. Got a warrior tank and berzerker as assist. who taunts and keeps mobs attention. Ping Ponging mobs makes the healer split heals and may not be good for the group.

I have noticed with my casters (and ranged DPS) in the past that the sometimes will not engage in combat if they are "outside of camp radius". Try turning this up to like 50. It may help you.

Also:
If you are looking for them to actually melee (a lot of folks like shammy's to smack stuff, for example) change MeleeOn=0 to MeleeOn=1.
