Question - War vs SK - FTP tank

Ok, so I used one of my free heroics on a warrior and leveled them up to 105. The intention was to replace the need for a merc tank or pet tank with this warrior and keep him FTP. I have an SK that is 105 already. Not sure if FTP changes which class would be better or not. I have played a pal and sk quite a bit, but have never played a warrior, so I am completely lost on him.

There are quite a few guides out there already and have found some nice resources for what gear to get that is non prestige. Just want to get my fellow redguiders take on it before I commit to gearing out either class.

They will be tanking for the following group setup

I believe this boils down to play style and what you want the tank to do.

If the tank's primary purpose is a grinding group, an SK may be a better choice:
1. they can pull with their pet to get around some weird zone geometry problems
2. their AE aggro tools are easier to use with KISS, (I've read that autowarrior does a good job at target switching as needed to be tank but I've not used it yet)
3. they come with more self-sufficient utility (invis, feign, etc.) to get to where they need to go without help.

however, if you want to do nameds or have other ways to manage pulls the warrior pulls ahead
1. their self-rune and last stand disiplines make named encounters markedly easier
2. I believe they still have their built in DI-1 innate damage reduction (in equal gear the warrior takes less damage)
3. they have far fewer AA to max than SK

I tend to end up with my sk when I'm moving to a new area or scouting out a new camp but once I've gotten things settled in and am familiar with what I'm killing I tend to choose the warrior.

For group content, honestly for the most part it'll come down to preference. I feel like all the tanks are fine now a days really. Me personally, I'd probably rock the SK with the enchanter/mage/druid group and the warrior with the other group.

And yes, warriors have better innate mitigation built in. You can reference this in your EverQuest\Resources folder under ACMitigation. (Warriors are class #1). Also an extremely detailed post here by a Dev
