I must be missing something, but I am getting this mismatch error:

Here is my RG Launcher version:

So the RG Launcher "Latest Version" is earlier than the Everquest version, but why do the MacroQuest version and RG Launcher latest version not match?

OK thanks! I saw the ice cream cone for test on the home screen was ^ so assumed it was updated, my bad!

Lol, now the cone is down!

They normally make an announcement and then I take things down, I didn't see one

Updating test to match live.... so rolling back.... or are we using live to test now? 🤣
this is the same as literally every month. test -> live update -> test "true up"

What to expect on patch days?
When eq patches MQ has to be rebuilt. (you also have to patch EQ --- this way you avoid "Version Mismatch" issues)

once mq is built RG can build - we now have an automated system that rebuilds RG as soon as it is updated - which means our previous method of "let's give it a quick test" is no longer there, and sometimes there ends up being another smaller patch later to correct if something got missed - so re-check on patch days if you are having issues.

eq could change literally anything and it would require the way MQ interacts with that portion of EQ to be completely reworked. It is normally just offsets, sometimes struct changes --- with the large changes eq has been making over the past few months (updates and backend improvements) there are more things than just offset changes that are happening, so it can certainly be a lot of work for the devs.

Curious when Very Vanilla will be updated?
You'll get a web notification (if we have permission), site notification, and email (optional)

MacroQuest for Test server

EQ patches go like this: (in theory)
2nd* tue/wed = test "real" patch
3rd* wed = live patch
4th* tue/wed = test "true up

the tue over the wed is a more recent thing (I suspect klanderso has more to do with that, and having time to ensure working stuff before the weekend and upset people - klanderso is pretty awesome)
* holidays subject to cause shifts in days or even week

test is notorious for being like "oops we forgot the 'dont crash plz' file, gotta patch again", or "woops we added +1 to crashing, we meant -1", so "on paper" it is double the patches, but very frequently ends up being more than double the work (i imagine, I'm not doing the work - I'd love to learn enough at some point to help facilitate doing so, however)

Mq itself is open source and by volunteer(s) - RG which builds and distributes that is obviously paid for.

as an FYI - it is very likely we won't get a new test build until sometime *next* weekend. Brainiac is likely unavailable until then

Ahh, never knew their patching process, very good information to know. Been an off and on subscriber to Redguides whenever I get the itch to return to EQ. I can't imagine actually playing without it anymore and truly appreciate all the hard work everyone here puts into keeping MQ thriving! Got my first taste of Lua this go around. Love these update threads for getting alerts on when a new build is ready, and am always happy to wait for it. Honestly, I've amazed how quickly patches to MQ usually hit after an EQ patch.

Hell yeah dude - what is your avatar dude btw? Owl in armor? Owlverine?

Wolverine Tux! (the Linux penguin mascot). I can't for the life of me remember who made it originally. I found him years ago, people love to mod Tux :)

Sorry if this is just me being dumb, returning user and having trouble getting MQ2 to launch. I'm getting an error saying it's not installed (which it's not, there is no MQ2 directory on my C drive), so I uninstalled and reinstalled launcher hoping it would give me the option to install VV/MQ2, but still getting the same screen showing last install of March 2024 and "No Patch Available". When I go to settings to check for updates it says I'm running the latest version (assuming it's talking about launcher and not MQ2). Can someone point me where I need to go to install/update MQ2, please?

My dude, welcome back!

You are not dumb, I can understand your confusion.

Unfortunately, the test build is down at the moment and requires and update due to the recent patch.

I would check out https://www.redguides.com/community/resources/very-vanilla-mq-test-server.2218/

If you watch that resource, you can get a notification when it is patched! IIRC I remember a likely delay was announced with this particular patch (details in the thread).

Also, on the main page, note the upside-down ice cream cone.

When you're in the launcher and it says "Patch Day - Unavailable" it means that EQ patched, and you need to wait until it no longer says that to get the update to go with the current test build.

Thanks for the quick response! I did not notice the spilled icecream cone on the main page but will keep my eye on that from now on, makes more sense why there wasn't an update/patch available. Also seems like I was reading the status wrong, I read it as "Patch Unavailable", should've paid more attention as it clearly says it's Patch Day, so it's Unavailable. Thanks again!

Patience pants are a must if you play on test normally the downtime isn't this long. I think the last lengthy downtime like this was for the 64 update awhile back. As of late it's only been a few days. I was thankful we were told ahead about this lengthy one. I'm sure I'm one of many hoping to be able to load into test at some point tonight. If not put on a fresh pair of patience pants hah.

As always thanks to brain and the RG folks for all ya do.

Cheers
