Re: Very Vanilla Compile 20140620

Sorry about that. The first fix went from a crash to a freeze. Nothing is going to happen tonight. I have to set up an old xp machine. That will first thing tomorrow so i can duplicate the error so the mq2 devs can fix it.

Re: Very Vanilla Compile 20140620

I have an old cpu in the closet with xp just have to toss a monitor and keyboard on it

Re: Very Vanilla Compile 20140620

XP is dead its 14 year lifespan is over why are people holding on? Windows 7 Is a great operating system. Please upgrade before your account information is compromised or your PC becomes part of a botnet...

Re: Very Vanilla Compile 20140620

Rogueish what he was saying is that not only has Microsoft abandoned xp there is no protection if you log to the net and use ANY form of browser, the EXPLOITS that are there in XP leave your machine WIDE open to being compromised and this is not because you serfed porn, the bots are looking for any CLIENT running XP and if you log onto the web they WILL find you and compromise your system. I loved XP, I miss XP, but at least 7 is stable cause I dislike Windows 8 ALOT!

Re: Very Vanilla Compile 20140620

Helpful info, thanks.

I'm going to assume that's a rhetorical post and you're not looking for the myriad of reasons someone might have not yet upgraded OS's or purchased a new machine. If you'd like to send me either or both of these PM me and I'll find an address you can send them too. Could we not also say EQ is a 15 year old game and ask why people are holding on?

I'll upgrade when I'm able to get to it on my priority list. As of today I can't say it's more important than my kids being able to play little league. I can say in light of recent MQ2 developments I have been looking at upgrades and also considered playing clean or not at all/until upgrading is a viable option.

Never the less I appreciate the effort being put in to include XP users as individuals who may continue to subscribe and download compiles and would ask that if it is decided doing so is more time than it's worth it's made known. Before the last two patches I had seen no indication as such.

Thank you.

:) not going to say do something "illegal" but i havent paid for windows in 10 years.

Thank you.

The 2 last patches have included new updates to fully support Win 8. Those updates is what causing the issues on Win XP. The MQ2 Dev does not have access to a Win XP machine so he has to wait until we can get him crash dump reports of the issue to fix it

Also between the test and Live server there have been 3 patches this week so we have been crazy busy just trying to keep up and get the compiles out.

I will setting up a win xp machine I have today and we will try to figure this out this weekend.

Unfortunately in may take a few day to track this down and fix it but I do want our compile to Work with Win XP.

Re: Very Vanilla Compile 20140620

I wasn't trying to be mean. The security holes in XP are huge I'm not just concerned about your EQ info but I also wouldn't use the machine to pay bills or check the bank or anything to do with credit cards. The risk of having your info stolen is very high. They are actively looking for users still on XP. Hackers know Microsoft won't help you unless your willing to fork out 200 dollars to them to continue supporting your machine for another year. I just don't want to see people's info get stolen or identity that's a huge headache in itself.

I think your one of two people that are still using XP on this forum. I have already given a key to Vista to the other. I'll see if I can dig up my vista Cd and make an ISO upload it to drop box and send you the key. It won't be until Sunday that I will be able to look. I will PM you.

Re: Very Vanilla Compile 20140620

You're mistaken to assume 'one of two people using xp'. I have 2 windows xp systems still. I am very grateful that they are taking the time to make sure it works with Windows XP. Just because Microsoft wants to force us to buy a new product of theirs, that they can't convince us is worth the money, and instead bully the market, doesn't mean I'm going to upgrade.

Do you have any idea how infuriating it is, to have bought 2 systems, that work great, and we have NO need to upgrade, be told to toss them aside and buy new ones just because Microsoft wants to make more money ?

If it wasn't about the money, then Microsoft would provide free upgrades to people with Win XP to Vista or 7, just to get them to a 'safe' operating system that MS didn't want to support.

Imagine if you had a perfectly good car, and something was built into it so one of the parts suppliers had control over it and could tell you, sorry, time to throw it away and buy a new one because we haven't made enough money from you lately.

That is EXACTLY what is going on. I don't need one bit of the 'new technology'. Microsoft, and their cool aid drinkers, are trying to terrorize the masses to make them conform. Buy new products, be like me.

Well we don't all have endless money to buy new products. We have no need to throw away perfectly good ones.

Re: Very Vanilla Compile 20140620

Not that I'm a huge Microsoft fan, but I can not think of any other company who has supported a piece of software for 14 years with no additional cost to the end users. As a business I wouldn't support a piece of software for that long with no additional cost. If you bought a XP machine at release and used the same key for 14 years across your machines you payed 14 dollars and some change a year for the OS and it's support.... that's if you paid 200 dollars for OS.

If you buy a new car at $25000 they only warranty on average for 3 years or 36000 miles. Unless your talking power train warranty for 1000000 miles or 5 years.

Yes, it sucks for end users to have to migrate to something else but the warned people for almost 3 years. They even went as far to extend the original cut off date another year.

Sorry for any spelling errors or bad grammar I'm on my phone. I am not trying to argue either just trying to explain it wasn't a complete money grab on Microsoft side. The teams of developers working on XP updates can be used for something else or they will finally be profitable with large corps paying out the 200 dollars for each XP machine they have that they want to continue to get updates on.

Re: Very Vanilla Compile 20140620

Haha I fixed that , it wouldn't be a house cat but a tiger or a lion, OH MY.

Re: Very Vanilla Compile 20140620

To be fair comparing something that costs on the low end $25000 to a piece of software that most OEMs paid something like $20 for doesn't really work. Its more like the tires on your car are worn down because in the past 14 years of use you never replaced them. Every mechanic has told you to replace your tires. Its to the point now where random people walking by your car are yelling DUDE WTF YOUR CANNOT DRIVE WITH THOSE TIRES. You choose to continue and drive on these worn down tires infact you jump on the freeway and get in the fast lane! At some point in the very near future they are going to fail while your driving and perhaps cause a wreck harming you or others.

Microsoft has supported windows XP for over 14 years. It is time to move on. Now I dont know how long ago you bought your PC but if it was after 2007 you may already have a windows vista license. Check the Microsoft sticker on the side of your computer. If you purchased your computer before 2007 you have gotten over 7 years out of it... Long over due for a new system.

People all over the world are currently looking for and exploiting windows XP systems. Any future patch Microsoft releases for windows vista, 7, or 8 will be reverse engineered and used to exploit XP systems. Most AV vendors have announced they are dropping support for windows XP. The same goes with browsers. What it comes down to is your system will get infected if you continue to access the internet on it.

Perhaps you are unaware of what your computer can be used for when it is compromised. Krebs has some pretty good information on it and he is very easy to understand even for the non infosec crew. HackedPC2012.png http://krebsonsecurity.com/2012/10/the-scrap-value-of-a-hacked-pc-revisited/

Re: Very Vanilla Compile 20140620

So to be clear what we are all trying to say to windows XP users, is running XP on the internet is like driving a convertible with the top permanently down and all your kids ipods and laptops and your checkbook and atm card sitting on the seats while you park it downtown and expect your stuff to be safe! EVEN if you don't bank on the PC, the bots will C R I P P L E your bandwidth as they use your XP machine as a personal attack slave!

Re: Very Vanilla Compile 20140620

Any idea why my SK will crash on login? This ONLY my SK, all others are fine. I can turn off mq2 and load him manually, but not with mq2 on.

Running latest RGUpdater
Running the 6/20 compile
Windows 7

Re: Very Vanilla Compile 20140620

try turning off mq2navigation=0 and mq2posse=0 in macroquest2.ini file. these can crash you in a few zones in random instances.

Re: Very Vanilla Compile 20140620

Thanks I will try that as soon as I can. He is in SS and everyone else is in a VoA zone, so I can see where that can be the issue.

- - - Updated - - -

Ok, that did not work. I have a suspicion it has something to do with the read-only status of some of the files. For some reason, my EQ folder reverted back to read-only for my Windows account. I removed the SK's name from the auto-login ini file and manually clicked him from the character screen which worked. Will test auto-login with the permissions change tomorrow.

So far nothing is working with getting my SK and Mq2 to work at the same time. Not sure if it's my INI or not. Here are both for melee and KA:

Re: Very Vanilla Compile 20140620

Will not update.

MQ2EQBCS.exe.tmp already exists.

Hitting continue just makes it sit there like a retard.

Re: Very Vanilla Compile 20140620

Is there any reason, after this compile, my caster would stop self buffing using mq2melee downflag/downshit? All my other characters are fine but not the caster. I don't believe its a syntax error, mostly because I didn't change anything, and I looked it over pretty hard. I just can't figure it. Its probably going to be something stupid I'm missing.

Just deleted the files from the MQ2 folder and it updated. Was reluctant to delete them due to not understanding the system completely.

Yes there has been some reported issues with downshits at mq2. Hope to hear something for a fix in next day or 2.

Re: Very Vanilla Compile 20140620

Error in KissAssist v 7.3.2: You defined variable from burn section in ini as BurnNamed ( my original value)... however the conditional check in the NamedWatch sub is checking against the correct UPDATED variable name of BurnAllNamed .... ( SLAP )

Also, i found the need to increase the array to 10 from 8 .... so please alter burn declaration array from

Rich (BB code):
/declare Burn[8] string outer
to
Rich (BB code):
/declare Burn[10] string outer

I know your busy bud.. just an obvious oversight...

Looking forward to the fix and seeing the new declaration variable documented in the KissAssist manual.

This got me thinking that my SK is the one crashing on login because of his Holy/Down's. I renamed the file he uses (like server_toon.ini to server_toon1.ini) and he logged in fine. I then put the file back to the original name (server_toon.ini) and all is good so far.

So looks like there is a bug in the MQ2 Melee file that is crashing some on login.

Re: Very Vanilla Compile 20140620

pm me your sks mq2melee ini file

Re: Very Vanilla Compile 20140620

Just got a really odd error. In fact, never seen it before. As I was loading EQ up, MQ2 popped up and said: Injection Failed. Not enough storage.
Not sure why it said that. But I refreshed the injections and it injected just fine. Thoughts?

Re: Very Vanilla Compile 20140620

This happens to me a lot now. I am not sure why my system is pretty good (i7 16gig ram SSD etc). I just refresh and everything is good.

Re: Very Vanilla Compile 20140620

I get this error like 50% of the time I start my first EQ-instance, but beside that message I never got an issue out of it. So I just ignore it. It has not happened to appear when I start my 2nd and 3rd instance on same comp.

Re: Very Vanilla Compile 20140620

Any idea why the command /echo ${MacroQuest.Server} is no longer working. It reports NULL instead of the server name.

Re: Very Vanilla Compile 20140620

Yes its been changed to EverQuest.Server and mq2 was just patched to make it backward compatible. you should update though.

Re: Very Vanilla Compile 20140620

thanks Maskoi, it's been long time since I've played. Wonder what else has changed in the last year or so. Guess I'll find out.

Have you checked the permissions on your folder and the folders above. Windows keeps changing mine to different owners and such. Sometimes I see that error then.

Compile updated with latest MQ2 source code 20140630

Had some requests from members for the latest and greatest to test new functions

KissAssist 7.4 also included.

Seems there is a slight hiccup. There are times when my SK will pull and his pulling spell gets resisted. He'll get agro but will continue to stand there and cast the spell until it lands, then he'll run back to camp. Is there a way you can change it to have him return to camp upon gaining agro?
