I think I want to try out the test server. Main reason, I don't want to pay for 6 accounts.

What are some of the Pros over going over and what are some of the Cons?

Thanks!,
Taz

I moved to test 2 years ago have not looked back .
Test does not have the toxic environment that you would normally encounter on live servers.

Non toxic, everyone tends to help out, especially with gear and plat if you need it. Test doesnt have much of an economy due to you being able to /testcopy over from live every eight hours. The XP is double the rate of live, which is great if you don't have a lot of play time. It makes leveling/AAing alts much easier. You can /testbuff new characters to level 25 immediately. Con of all this is the sever population isn't as high as some live severs. Most here are ok with that though since we are boxing our own groups and there as less people/groups to contend with. You can tell if someone is boxing and has a camp set up. I just tend to avoid them as to not make there GFTO/Posse mac go off. There aren't really any raiding guilds.

Pros: Great community. You'll have a decent number of zones to yourself.
Mediums: You'll be on your own for most of it. MQ2 test updates are usually delayed a bit more.
Cons: No real economy if you're starting from scratch.

Test is amazing, a few nitwits that take test as the begging spot and try to ruin baz( most stuff is 1cp or 1pp for all items). I love it there, copy over and if you don't like it just lose some exp and go back to live

It's also limited to 2 expansions back if you aren't a paid sub and no raiding to speak of.

I came back to the game in Nov last year after stopped playing for 15+ years. At the time all I got was a lvl 65 ench(max lvl when I stopped playing I think). After staying on Live for a month or so to lvl 86 I decided to give Test a try. I transferred over and sub 2 more accounts for a month. I did this so I could make heroic chars on Mangler to transfer over to Test. At first I 3 boxes with ench, Druid, and mage to lvl 101. Then I decided to add a wiz, SK, and sham. March 12 was when I got this group of 6 to lvl 110. That’s about 3 months since moved over to Test using 1 lvl 86 and 2 lvl 85 chars. I would have never been able to do this if I played on Live. Test server community helped me buy spells and equip all my chars thus allowing me to focus on playing and leveling, and the xp rate on Test is twice as fast as non FV server so you can really get up in lvl fast. I really don’t have a lot of time to play each day so this helped tremendously. The downside of playing on Test is things get slower to get fix, and there isn’t much support from Daybreaks if you need in game support, but I suppose that is expected when you play on a Test server.

Definitely try it out. You'll know in a week or so if it's for you or not. Couple of decent guilds if you want grouping. No downside to trying it.

It's only limited to two expansions back if you haven't bought the expansion. Same as FTP in that respect. However, you get free gold. Which means
Rk. II/Rk. III
no prestiege issue.
No AA Cap for not paying for a sub.

All of my paid plugins are free on test.
Can usually get random items for free from people that occasionally /testcopy their toons. As long as the item is droppable on a normal live server.

Duplication of stuff is "legal" in the sense that if you have items and want a copy of them. Give them to another account, then /testcopy your character from live again. Lets you dupe plat, items, etc that way. Then you can give all your toons items the other has, again assuming it is droppable. Can get items from other players the same way. Even friends that don't normally chill on test can do a /testcopy of their characters and hop over assuming you can get them to download a separate test copy of EQ.

Downside. When I was on test the instances were down a LOT. Couldn't get into guild hall to use guild teleporter because of it.

Other than that I didn't participate in the community much.

I'm still a big fan of test prior to my excursion over to live. I got a bit grumpy as they were patching frequently (few times a week) and given the time to get RG adjusted over, I was losing out on playtime so I went over to Live for a while. In either case being able to /testcopy folks over is great and a way of being able to reduce the grind on certain grindy parts of the game (e.g. tradeskills). When I was playing guild halls were working but I never tried the Agents of Change. Test also has a community that seems more chill with mq2 users and if you like having a zone to myself you've got that opportunity too. I'm a big fan of test though it is usually going to have more problems than Live (the falling damage problem that was killing SKs and Bards for a while for example...)

Well its been about a month now that I have been on the Test server and I really like it. Its very true, I find the crowd non-toxic and very friendly. I have taken to the local economy and sell things for 1 plat. I got hooked up with a few million plat and mounts within the first 2 or 3 days... crazy. Love being able to wear prestige gear, have all my RK II spells up to 110 and I am having a blast in about every zone I have been in thus far. Honestly the only draw back to me is, do you actually want to work for your gear or just buy that full suit of Snowbound armor with matching Ice weapons and shields... well, I have bought a little here and there but I also have knocked out MPG Trials and was starting on progression in TBS. I have been buying up XP pots and grinding out my AA's also, which is a little mind numbing but yeah.... I love Test. I wish I would have known about /testbuff sooner, but I know now.

Thank you for all of your responses, like the test server, I find Redguides to be equally as friendly and helpful.

Nice! I knew you would like it. :)

Might want to be super careful speaking about anything to do with copies for anything on test, They have been nerfing stuff that can be copied right left and center. Also, the whole issue with instances was finally fixed last year.

Well I'm sure that you can do anything that you put your mind too. If your skilled at multi boxing 24 toons or more ( I think the 24 is the the requirement for one of LoD ) then yeah, probably. That is out of my skill set or desire to try. I think back in the day the requirement was 54 for more raids PoP and before. I could be wrong. You may draw unwanted attention though... /shrug.

There are videos of people (Technoe) solo'ing Naggy and Vox.....

It seems like there is a very long delay between Test patching and MQ2 being compiled, have you found that as a negative to playing on Test?

MQ2 usually gets patched pretty quick for test, but it all depends on the severity of the changes that they make, the timing of when they bring it back up, and how much work the mq2 devs have to put in to sort out all of the changes - having said that, test has some bad bugs atm and i'm surprised they didn't take it down again lol

for me, the unexpected random and repeated downtime is something that i wouldn't really dig about test

There is a small delay when Test is patched. However, for me it is not a big deal or any issue. During those times, I take my Shammy/Enchanter/Necro/etc out and solo stuff. Even when MQ2 is up and working, I still find satisfaction in solo/moloing content and seeing what I can or cannot accomplish.

It is somewhat irritating, but then again, I just started a new group on Live for these times. With this new group, I am trying to not PL or anything. I started a mostly Dark Elf group - SDK, ROG, MAG, CLR, WIZ and a Drakken Enchanter. Also these down times remind me that I need to go do other things away from EQ also.

Not for me personally. I use the down time to either clean up my inventories and bank, do tradeskills and trophies test, epic, etc... there are still quite a lot of things for me to do when I am not using MQ2 if it is just for a period of time. Sometimes I actually welcome it. Make me feel like I am not wasting my time not being out there grinding or camping.

Can you do raids if you box an army yourself?

Yes. All depends on your skill at boxing, what you use to automate your toons, and your skill at writing MQ2Events or Includes for your automation macros.

This is my love-hate relationship with test too. The upside is perhaps they've actually been using it as a proper test server as of late?

Thanks! I currently play on an emu server which I love, but maybe once I am done with it (emu finishes at level 70) I will give Test a try.

Hit me up when you do. We've got a small guild of us working our way through progression and all boxing multiple groups.

I think I will give this a go once live servers are up and I can make testcopies of my toons

Warlord coins were initially selling for 350-400k in January, and are now as low as 100k in May. Kronos pretty have been pretty stable at 3 Million plats on FV.
Do the math when each Raid Ore ran 276 Warlord coins in January --> 32 Kronos in January

Pro - Never have to worry about resources.

Con - You might get addicted to power leveling toons. I am up to 11 lvl 110 max AA toons now. That's in about 6 months of playing.

I’ve just come back to the game after a few (20) years away, and I jumped straight on to the testcopy path. One thing that’s really fun about that for me is it feels like my original character is “preserved” on the live server in the state that I left him in 2002ish. Now with the double xp on test I feel like I can quickly bring a whole group up to his level and then do some of the fun things from back then while I’m learning how the game has changed.
