Problem - SOLVED Background lag since 7/23 update

I'm seeing some horrible lag in my background sessions, so much so mq2nav can't follow paths and macros are missing heals. I tried stopping using WinEQ2 and switched to MQ2FPS but the problem persists. Same hardware, same zones.

For fps settings I have

/render bg 60
/maxfps bg 20
/maxfps fg 30

I've tried bumping up all of the numbers as well with no change.

Wizards can't use anchor spells either. Keeps saying no placed anchor of the required type was found when I can see it and ctrl+f find it. Other classes have been able to use the anchor clicky.

Anyone else seeing anything similar?

Thanks,
Sym

Yep. I don't have lag this bad but running 4-6 at once gets laggy and choppy.

Other people have been complaining about the same crap, same with anchors.

Re: Background lag since 7/23 update

Found the issue. I was editing eqclient.ini to try out stickfigures and noticed this

Rich (BB code):
MaxFPS=150
MaxBGFPS=9

I changed the bg fps to 150 to let mq2fps actually handle it and now the sessions are running as normal. I'm not sure when that setting was updated but I've never touched it or the in game setting under options.

Try using /hideafk players all and /afk instead of stick figures... I always hated stick figures despite the help it gives for reducing lag just because... well i dont wanna play with stick figures. But /afk on helps even more than stick figures does and you wont have to walk around looking at shitty stick figure player models

I turned stickfigures back off once I saw the fps setting.

I'll try to remember that rhb :)

You laugh but it happens! Switch comps...change a setting here or there... /afk bots are a very sneaky animal :shh:

I actually keep all but my tank AFK in hopes that it makes it easier for people to know which character to send a tell too. Everyone in my group/raid has an AFK message that tells anyone sending me a tell to talk to my main tank instead.

It always makes me paranoid that people are going to report an offtank or one of my melee dps and a GM will send them a tell asking if I am afk. Cause I am for fucking sure gonna miss a tell that goes to one of my Monks and not my tank!

Post officially hijacked but...

Yeah you can manually set /afk to have a message up, I used to do that a lot (before I had something to be concerned about). It doesn't mean the toon is actually afk... it just doesn't put you in the best position :toot:

I just use tell windows so the little start bar icon flashes orange.

None of which is news to anyone reading this... lol

I actually play with an isboxer layout that covers my start bar. Odd EQ is the only program I let cover my start bar because it gets me extra room on the ingame screen. I normally don't let anything hide my start bar! But the orange flash I know what you mean, when I am alt tabbed i just watch my EQ icon for an orange flash - then i know someone is bothering me!

Thats nice way to think of it but if a gm pops up there most likely gonna use a /say message and wait to see if u respond to it, thats how ive heard of most people getting hit.

last time I was reported for monopolizing a zone or whatever the GM that arrived sent me tells. I'm sure they use say anymore as its unreliable since almost no one watches it.

They definitely do use /say - I have had two GMs show up before on me and ask me if I was there in /say - which sucks cause as you said almost no one uses it anymore .... shit on live almost all monsters spam /say when you pull them and die it's a really shitty way to get someones attention these days since it's so easy to miss
