Question - SOD Progression or Gribble HA’s?

Hi all,

Looking for a little friendly advice from the community. My band of merry adventures is only level 79 and in hodgepodge gear. I have been doing Sgt What’s Name quests and then going into Old Blackburrow to raise cash to complete my missing spells as listed in CWTN plug-ins. Along the way I have been trying to collect the no drops for Bayle’s Heraldic quest. I would love to start farming tranquility remnants for TBM gear but I think I need to improve my current gear and spells. My team is SK, Enc, Clr, Mag, Mag, Bst. The SK only has buffed hp of 14-15k.

Should I just stay with SOD progression or should I try to farm Gribble HA’s so I can upgrade gear faster. I had heard Gribble scales so I thought perhaps I might be able to squeak by with my current group.

Be well. Thanks for the advice.

what are remnant prices on your bazaar?

the super baseline (no aug) gear is VERY cheap

Sic, to be honest. I am not quite certain. That was one variable I totally had forgotten. I did pick up one or two archaic pieces before I even started Ocean Green Village and was lucky someone had two pieces listed at 200-250 pp. In this day and age, what is a fair price for the tranquility remnants?

Thanks again for the help.

when i was on BB they were like 6-8 plat per, and the baseline gear is like 4 remnants (much more when you get into the augs)

i generally tell and encourage folks not to say what server they're on, but being in the mid levels and not having any plat is pretty sucky. lots of folks prolly willing to toss you some plats if that was something you were interested in. (both parties could make a dummy toon to send/receive the plat on)

I am on the old Malen which is now called drinal. Going to log in now and play an hour two before bed. Will do a /bazaar. Appreciate the coaching.

Just checked /bazaar. The listed price is 1k pp each.

EQ Resource is showing 5 remnants for Tier 1ear ring.

Seen people asking to buy them, and paying 50p each...

Would love to pay 50 pp. I think I have 1k pp in total right now because each spell at these levels runs ~1.5k so my funds have gone there.

With limited initial funds, which piece would be the best bang for the buck? Jewelry seems the cheapest.

Again, many thanks to my fellow gamers for helping learn this new version of EQ.

hopefully a fellow RG'r on your server will be like "i have infinity you can have"

1k plat probably isn't worth it - tho it is just like 4-6 per base armor piece

I don't have any toons on drinal or i'd hook you up

No worries. Just killed Magus Wentior for the umteenth time. Heading to Ocean Green Village and then Old Blackburrow where hopefully I can pull in 3k or 4k tonight and at least get one piece.

Be well. Have a great weekend.

Prices on most servers are 6-8pp per Remnant. Fair price. I have seen it on my bazaar at 1kpp per. Which is stupid AF!

When I first started back I ran in to the issue with remnants being pricey in the bazaar. If you WTB in general and set a price you think is fair usually there is people who will sell them. I had one person refuse to take money and TBH I would do the same at this point at 120 with 50k or so of them that I have no use for.

The TBM gear is the way to go until Conflagrant at 106.

With respect to SoD vs Gribbles I tried SoD as well and while it is somewhat fun it is painfully slow leveling and considering you still have 40+ levels to go Gribbles will get you moving much faster.

I did gribbles to 95 or so then did TBM progression to 105, FM to 110 then ToV progression until 115 then right to ToL. Most of my leveling 110+ was overseer and mission rewards with XP turned to 100% AA as 100+ xp grinding is painfully slow.

I always recommend TBM gear if you can afford it. Be warned, it can get very expensive to keep 6 toons current in TBM gear. It's honestly not feasible unless you have a steady stream of plat (which it sounds like you don't). You can't farm enough remnants to outfit six toons. It's usually better to try to gear the important toons (tank/healer) and let the others live on hand-me-downs.

Since you've already been messing around in SoD, you should check out the rewards from the Hero's Journey (Paragon's). Here's a link to them on Alla: https://everquest.allakhazam.com/search.html?q=Paragon's

That gear is better than the baseline TBM gear by a mile. It's generally BiS at level 75. You've probably already completed some of the quests, so I bet you're only a few quests away from getting some sweet rewards. You won't be able to get every piece of Paragon's, but you'll get substantial upgrades over your current gear.

That will give you a good baseline to jump into whatever you want to do next, whether that's TBM or Gribbles or whatever else.

From what I have read, it looks like what they did with TBM is make the the gear a “frame”. What I mean by this is that the gear has some stats but it looks like they want you to tweak the gear stats by socketing in different augments that become available every 5 levels, beginning at 75. Is this a semi-fair assessment? They give you a little taste then put you on the grinding treadmill to be able to afford the socket upgrades.

Again, thanks to everyone for helping me sort this all out. At least now I have a road map.

Be well. Happy grindin.

Yes. The actual gear pieces you buy from the vendor are like 5 remnants but the stats are irrelevant. The real "power" comes from the augs that start out low in cost, but then dramatically increase. I went the purchasable route on my 1st group at 75-105 and a full group of 6 fully geared in 100% TBM gear/augs cost me 250k remnants at 8pp per is 2 million pp. Keep in mind, you can sell the older augs to the vendor and receive some remnants back to re-use for current augs. It is costly.

Prices on traders are unrealistic. Ask in NewPlayers or general.

Have you tried the TBM missions? It's been a long time, but I started those at 75 since the missions scale to your level. I think I had defiant gear on some toons...

I'd do TBM over Gribble. #1 reason is TBM gear sells back to vendor for ~65% when you outgrow it. (Then you can put those remnants on trader for 1k yourself!)

The Gribbles HAs are the best bang for you buck for experience. You can also purchase gear in Ethernere West Karana from level appropriate vendors with Mark's of Valor from the missions. The issue I found is you will level far faster than you accumulate marks so it isn't realistic to gear up that way.

The TBM missions are generally more difficult and less rewarding for XP but the remnants you gain will gear you faster than the CoTF (gribbles) route.

You can progress either way but if you are looking to get to end game fastest buy your remnants for TBM gear and xp in Gribbles until the xp starts to slow. Also be sure to check Clayton Teek for HA quests, if they are ones you have unlocked the xp bonus is amazing at lower levels.

Not sure if you are aware of it or not but to buy the TBM gear you need 3 quests first, the first two are just hail missions that take a few minutes (and give decent xp) and the last one In to the Temple B is a full on mission that scales but can be painfully long if you have bad luck with the drops.
