Question - Smithing ore farming

So I made the oh so smart move of deciding to start on trade skills, and The even better decision to start with smithing. I’ve made it to around 175, and after a bit of browsing the web ive come to the conclusion the best way forward involves making studs.

for these studs I need ores of varying levels, starting with cobalt.

what I’m struggling to find are good suggestions of places to farm these ores.

Does anyone here know any decent farming spots for cobalt or above please?

i prefer to make actual templates, as cobalt or above is 310+ and you can use either the glove or wrist to spam your way to 300.
As to how to farm them, TLP's rock for that, since we are dealing with cobalt to vanadium, anywhere in between TSS to UF mobs.
I would go for humanoid heavy zones.

So, PoFire, Vergalid, Splitpaw etc

Cheers. I’ll have to have a look at the pattern idea

Make Barbs with ores. Make a file and combine in forge with an ore Osmium, Scorched, Palladium (282). Tatnatalum (255), Vanadium (268), Titanium (242). Cobalt (222) Fulginate(112) Rhenium (184). Farming in the Arena in Shard Landing is great for silks and ores. After 282 I make templates. Thats when it gets a bit expensive. GL

so ive tried out a couple of places suggested above. the arena in shards landing has proven a pretty sweet spot. a fuck tonne of mobs to kill, a good selection of higher end ores as well as silks and pelts, and a decent amount of vendor trash to make some plat on the side. cheers for that suggestion phil.

the accursed nest however, im not so sure. i think i may be bugged or something. i entered the zone, and started killing. got a few drops, then loot of any kind at all just completely stopped dropping. like nothing for probably hundreds of mobs, so im not sure whats going on here, ill try again later and see how that goes.

/edit turns out i had somehow turned off advanced loot in the settings and that accounted for no loot in accursed nest. ive now been there for a few hours, and while the drop rates in shards landing are better, this zone is proving ok for lower level ores, ive also got a toon farming PoF and that zone is working well for lower level ores too. hopefully when combined, they will yield a decent amount. both are pretty good for vendor trash drops too.

I think it may be the zone I have this happen to me occasionally as well but I have my guy running around in there so long for an extended period of time that I don't notice a whole lot of difference

Grats on the TS (Tradeskill) journey. Whatever you do...make sure you get your trophy when your skill hits 50. If you've done any hunting in tov you can also max out just making velium powder (Velium Smith Hammer, Raw Ore)...pretty much free from normal drops there.

Note - even if just doing TS for quests, at least get the trophy quest at 50. You can finish it any time if you decide to pursue the trade skill for fun or profit, but getting the quest saves time if/when you decide to do it.

Unless EQTraders info is incorrect, velium powder trivial is 135, so no maxing there. But it is useful in several alchemy, pottery and research recipes, in addition to the ToV armors, so don't destroy them.

You're probably right, if I recall i went powder, the Velium Chain/Sheets...then armor combines. Made a pretty penny selling the armor too, but the silks are a bit tedious to get, recommend Crystal Caverns or Velks if your team/tank is strong enough.

I've never found any *good* place to farm specifically for ores. Same goes for silks, binding powders, etc. These items are on the universal drop table for a given level range of mobs. Wherever you can kill the highest amount of mobs per hour is going to be the *best* but you'll still only ever see a few drops of the specific thing you're looking for. If you need high quantities of something fast, head to the bazaar and drop some PP.

Yep. Run the equation - if you can farm pp faster than the ore itself, then go for it. Unfortunately, not everything can be had in bazaar anymore (research components on my server, for example), so farming the real thing is sometimes the only option.

i tried gain this morning in accursed nest, nothing dropping again, then i tried running in pof also, with the same two toons, nothing was dropping for them there either, i dont get it, just nothing seems to be dropping. has anyone else encountered this?

is there some sort of setting or bug that stops you seeing loot?

Update: I’ve figured it out, somehow I had managed to turn advanced looting off in the settings, my boys are back up and running as we speak.

Pop zones are pretty good for most of the ores and pretty empty nowadays.
