First off Happy New Year!

When logging on this morning I noticed my computer running real slow when trying to play EQ. it almost feels like being in POk with 200 other people but I am in regular zones trying to kill mobs. Everything was fine last night. there was no patch....later in the day I tried again and I ran the patch that was due but im still having the same problem. It takes a while longer to log into zones, hit the follow button, just basically do anything. It is very laggy...I dont think anyone else is having the issues...I logged my guys in without MQ and it still had that problem. DOes anyone have any ideas when I can try to fix this? I never had a computer just go from working fine to being unplayable over night. Is that possible? did I get some virus maybe? how would I even check for that?

I run Lua Rg Mercs but I dont think that is the issue.

there are a lot of threads all over the boards about various things you should do:

- start with a restart
- driver / windows updates
- turn off logs (or at least make them small, if you have 1g+ sized log files that can be a problem
- turn off file syncing for your rg/mq/eq folders
- turn off file scanning (av) for your rg/mq/eq folders
- turn off "display offline members" in your guild window
- check background processes
- disable eq's new ui engine
- ensure you're using framelimiter
- check temperatures, sudden overheating due to fan not working or cat hair or misc holiday tinsel getting into it can quickly slug a computer down to a grinding halt
- check your background processes, do you have some misc background process eating all your ram/cpu?
- what about your hdd, is that being eaten up by something running in the background

unless you downloaded something weird from a sketchy site, i doubt you went from no-virus to yes-virus, but possible - windows defender is pretty good to check.

most likely you have some bullshit dragging you down that you didn't notice - like the new eq ui engine turned on cause you need to increase your autologin delay (and possibly set your eqclient.ini to read only)

Thanks Sic....ill look into that list....I really only use this computer for EQ and the occasional Starcraft game. I really never download anything but I do spend time on the EQ trader sites and EQ resource. I doubt its those but never know. ill get to work on those other things.

I already did the restart and driver updates so ill hit those other suggestions.

And if you do all that Press Control Alt Delete and see what tasks are running besides EQ that are sucking on your processing power.

then switch to linux, because windows is bloated spyware at this point in life, might as well cut the cord sooner rather than later.
