Red Planet EQ EMU Project - Phase 1

Delving into the bot system, I've seen some private servers have it modified to the point where you can almost set up a raid. The only problem is that the AI of the bots is poor and the setup takes some time unless you can macro to set it all up. I like the idea of the FV loot system with the exception of epic weapons.

The other question I had was the possibility of getting weapons that are considered Artifacts like Oakwynd or possibly even bringing back the Moss Covered Twig, haha. I like the ideas being thrown out there, and I am excited to hear more.

keep it mind, if stuff is *too* easy to get, people will lose attention.

that said, I would prefer FV style loot rules cause the population will be somewhat low, but even with 6 char, I would prefer to level from the ground up. Macro's don't that that long to update :)

Plus maybe Maskoi can just program something sweet in like... /buff6 gem6 which would update the ini with whatever spell was in gem6 (in kissassist)

I prefer the leveling from bottom to top, it's not that hard since TSS with the progression armor that you can get to level.

What about anniversary items? Can the lower tier ones be active? I was just curious because some of those items are nice to have. Could we do pre-nerf CoS and DE mask? I would prefer to be able to have the sleeper "unawakenable" for item reasons to just have some 'twink' fun.

I have been checking some of the other EQEMU. One very disappointing thing I noticed is no one seems to have the TSS expansion zones. I did not check the zones for later expansions, TBS, SoF, SoD, UF.

Please reasure me we will have all the zones and expansions through....

A lot of the emus are only up to PoP/GoD ours will be UF

we will not have them all....it takes ALOT of work for the team that makes this stuff to put out a new exp....it will prob be up to SoD? i think..not sure

I did not know the code and scrips were up to UF lol

Regardless though, we have some coders here that could write scripts and develop the server well enough. We could make it our own project that could be tons of fun and supply learning for many people.

there is tons to making the server working with a exp...more then just a few lines of code...trust me I looked into it...its hard core work....the EQemu teams takes so long to put out a new exp cuz of how hard it is...when SOE puts out a new exp they have a big team working on it..its crazy hehe

If we going with a TSS+ one, just start everyone off level 22 since thats what Maskoi's macro gets you to from newb :D

I see you guys are quoting $750 for server admin. Again, I will do this for a free RG/NA subscription and I'm Red Hat certified multiple times, as well as CEH, Sec+, etc., etc.. Don't want you to waste money on something you don't have to.

Server as in EMU server needs to familiar with EMU servers perl mysql linux etc. I will defiantly talk to oyu about helping out though

I have been digging deep into the world of EQ EMU...

It appears the expansion are only complete upto GoD. Maskoi and Abyss can correct me if I'm wrong, but it appears we will have only very limited access to content beyond GoD, at least at first.

My experience has been mixed -

The servers with lots of custom content tend to level you up too fast, on one server I level 40 in less then one day. With a limit of level 65 there isn't anywhere to go soon.

The ligit servers are mostly using the original xp rates and go way to slow. I had difficulty getting to level 10 inside the tutorial. Going back through some of the old content that I had forgotten about has been a lot of fun though.

I am hoping for some limited custom content and an increase in xp. It would be nice to get bit of help in the beginning with equipment, weapons and plat. Nothing too big or the mobs won't live long enough to enjoy.

Quick Update.
We got the emu up and running with the private login server but ran in a bunch of issues because of the linux version. Mainly couldn't compile the EMU with bot support. We are setting up a different server this week with Fedora 14 instead of Centos 5. If the new set up goes smoothly we should be able to let people start running around for testing purposes the following week Jan 17 ish.

Also in the next few days I will open up the existing server for people to run around on to get an idea of what the EMU server is like.

We need the Underfoot install, right? After that, we just follow the normal EMU instructions, except waiting for your login server info?

FYI, you can run Red Hat 6 (or any version) for free unregistered, as long as you don't have any registered versions of it running anywhere else in your business. Sounds like you got it handled, just tossing that out there in case you wanted to stay away from Fedora.

The setup is a little different from regular EMU because of the private login server.
1. Download Steam - This is free http://store.steampowered.com/about/
2. Create a Steam account. - just follow the instructions after installing and running steam.
3. Purchase Underfoot - Its only $19.99 http://store.steampowered.com/app/24180/?snr=1_7_suggest__13
4. Create your EQ account at SOE - As part of the install process Steam will prompt you to create an account for the game at SOE.
Its fine since the account should never be used because you will be playing on our EMU and never live EQ with this account.
5. Download the game - Its about 8 gb so it will take a few.
On Win 64 bit it was downloaded to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\everquest
On win 7 32 bit should be C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\everquest
6. MAKE A BACKUP OF THE NEW EQ DOWNLOAD FOLDER!!! - You have been warned.
If you accidentally patch the new install you will not be able to play on the EMU server.

7. Create and modify a shortcut for the eqgqme.exe to bypass the patcher.
The properties of the shortcut will have to be edited to add patchme at the end of the target window in the shortcut properties.
It will look like one of two following examples:

Rich (BB code):
"C:\folder name\eqgame.exe" patchme
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\everquest\eqgame.exe" patchme

8. Download and copy the files missing and older zone files from previous expansions that you need to play on the EMU.
Unzip the files and copy them to your root EQ folder. You will be prompted to overwrite some this is fine. Link below:

http://forums.notaddicted.com/showthread.php?t=24226

9. Edit your eqhost.txt file to point to the red planet login server. It should be edited with a text editor program (like notepad) to look like this:

Rich (BB code):
[LoginServer]
Host=50.63.26.156:5999

Now the hard part - I don't believe Maskoi has finsihed programing the website to create new accounts yet... without a login account you can't login, sigh.

Watch for Maskoi to announce he is ready for login accounts.

The Red Planet website is - http://redplanetemu.com

ok I am ready downloaded all the stuff I need, changed host file did patch me only need log in. O the Anticipation!

I am working on a quick web interface so people can sign up to screw around the test server. i am hoping to have it done tonight or tomorrow.

Question since I am totally new to the Emu scene. Do we have to download from steam and have the setup the way that Hoosierbilly described? Could we direct download from Sony since up to UF is/was free to download? Basically I am trying to be a cheapskate and not pay Steam $20. If I have to I will, but figured it couldn't hurt to ask.

EQEmulator is programed only to work with with 4 EQ releases. Titanium, SoF SoD and the Steam UF release. nothing else will connect. You should be able to connect to our server with any of those that are set for EQEmu but for support and development purposes we are going with the Steam Underfoot.

And hey, I know you are really busy with the project, but when things settle down a bit could you give us a section of the forums dedicated to those on us that will be using the EMU?

And who's starting the guild? :)

I have mq2ghostkill somewhere. Its normal attack speed. We do not want no delay to come back even on our server. lol Right now the login and account creation for the website is my priority so I don't have much time to work o the compile. If I can get it working though I will defiantly include it.

The Red Planet login is going to take a few days to build.

If you are set up and ready to play on an EQEmu server then PM me with an email and a password.
I will set up an account for you and you can start exploring Red Planet. We are only supporting the Steam Underfoot Client to at NotAddicted but if you play on other Emus and have the Titanium, SoF or SoD client set up you can still connect.

Please don't PM me unless you are ready and setup up to play on a n Emu

Red Planet info is here http://forums.notaddicted.com/showthread.php?t=24238

I may have to get my bot army up and going again on the new EMU. Do you still need some cash? I'm saving some $ since I cancelled all 8 SOE accounts.
