I have 4 of my box toons that I will be powerleveling with my 90 ranger until they reach level 80. I am a complete n00b with rangers. I made this char years ago before I quit and never utilized him.

Anybody have any recommendations how & where I should PL? Headshotting or DPS? I also was just going to go to the hotzones. They're currently level 60 and I am planning to do Plane of Tactics until 65 - Stoneroot falls until 70 - Direwind Cliffs until 75 - Valdeholm until 80.

Very appreciative to anyone who shares their .02 in advance :)

The simplest answer in this scenario is - Whatever the highest zone you can kill mobs quickly, however you're killing them fastest.. That's going to be the best.

Headshotting really isn't that good until you can start stacking h-dex, so it's totally possible that it won't be fast enough to really be useful to you right now. At 90, it's basically a given that you're lacking type 5's for heroic stacking augs. Obviously if it works for you, great, but I suspect you'll find it on the slow side.

As for spots, it's really going to be gear dependent as well. With that said, whatever is consistently red to your lowbies, but easy for you to kill is a good option. I'm a big fan of SoF zones for powerleveling, particularly Gyrospire Zeka, but I'm not sure how fast you'll actually be killing at 90 with I'm assuming questionable gear. You'll be able to kill there fine, it just may be worthwhile for you to stay in older zones, instead.

One last note. Valdeholm certainly isn't a bad option. If you can kill sufficiently fast there, it may be worthwhile for you to just skip all the other zones and head straight there. Your lower levels will be gaining max exp per kill for quite awhile and you won't have to do any extra running around (which I find personally helps me enjoy the experience, so I'm not relocating 5 times in a play session)

Very true - thanks for the insight. I'm on FV and the gear isn't so bad. Going to baz to see what I can upgrade and then head out. Will try the Zeka place. Saw that its a 85 hot zone - so it should be pretty great xp til 80. Thanks Avian

Get one of these bad boys and Headshot will be a great tool.

There are certain levels when HS really gives you an edge.
I remember when the Lizards in Feerrott the Dream (House of Thule Expansion) became headshottable.

Almost everyone in my Guild got PL'ed here by one of the rangers. We'd grp up and sit back at the wall, hed go and solo all the lizards in massive pulls.
It really is a good place to fine tune your Rangering skills too. Mind you - he was and still is one of the best rangers server wide.

Headshot has been completely revamped. Bow of the Destroyer is no longer advisable gear, and is certainly not going to be worth whatever price tag is being asked for it unless you're using it while it's level appropriate.

Due to how the proc rate works, you will not get significantly more headshots with BotD than you will with a better ratio bow with much better stats and you'll be doing much less damage on every shot that isn't a headshot. BotD used to be godly for headshotting. Post revamp, it's fine if you forget that it ever existed. Just get the bow you would normally use for stats/damage at your level and go with it (unless it has a proc that breaks root.. then maybe don't use that one for headshotting)

I've been a ranger main for several years. I have a BotD. I've done hours of parsing, so I'm not speaking anecdotally. The BotD is now a decoration on my wall.

As a 20 year ranger, if you can't tank it you shouldn't be trying to HS it solo.
