Guide - Quick Guide to Overseer

Yeah, did them 3 times.. Ended up with a purple Mayong Mistmoore
i think i had that happen on all accounts so far.

Who knows what they might put on it in the future. Right now, I find collection items and tradeskill mats to be worth doing. It's extremely low effort to log in, match up the right agent to the right quest, click 'GO' and then go about your regular business.
Correct.
Yesterday i got about 30 collectible dispensers - so much for that.

They turned off the ability to early-finish overseer quests using cash - apparently they fail too often which is something I noticed, too.

While we investigate a potential issue with how the Overseer system is calculating quest success rates we will be turning off the ability to finish a quest early using DBC. Please feel free to continue to use the Overseer system as we are keeping an eye on things and collecting live data as we research.

Added a list with quests I have seen so far to the Guide.
Also updated the different categories (along with a table) to easy spot the quests you are looking for (like if you want TS items, you target Crafting, Harvesting and Research quests first).

nope. This happens every now and then. No idea what it is based upon. Maybe they do want you to run all initial recruitment quests? No idea.
Sometimes one of those quests shows up on the list of completed quests again.

ohh ... I might need to try this. Did you do anything special?
I actually have no idea. I run 3 groups and 1 char just kept getting the 4 5s recruitment missions over again. 3 times. I have 3 pinks on that Overseer and lots greens now.

Some chars cant do shit because I ended up with 2 grey agents (the rest poofed, died or whatever). Now I cant even do the recruitment mission on them because none of the agents are a match for it. Weird

I seem to have found a bug in the overseer, or I got really lucky on one of my guys.

After I got all setup and was doing quests, the options for the 4 quests like this showed up again
"The First Recruitment : Kalethin"

I was able to do all 4 (In addition to the first time I did it), and then I got a ton of common agents.
And I converted them to the uncommon agents.

Has this happend to anyone else? I am just curious if I got lucky? or if this was a bug
Same

The thing is:
Overseer was (and still is) horribly bugged on EQ2. I am getting the impression that the base-code more or less is the same for both systems *sigh*

There is one thing I am confused by, what does experience do for you?
Also what is Max level?

experience in the different categories?
I can only fathom it will unlock other quests.

What is sad is one of my toons got a ton of recruitment off the bat and has a ton of followers. My other toons only got the initital quest and only ahve like 4-5 each. The recruitment quests are not showing up frequently at all.

buggy code in my eqgame? 😱 say it aint so!
sorry if i killed some of your dreams *shrug*
I know - the truth sometimes hits one badly *lol*

But to be serious:
I haven't seen THAT many bad and obvious bugs for a long time - not even in eq.

BIG Changes inc!

Quest Success had a bug
It was a pretty big bug. A miscalculation in the way we determined if a quest should critically succeed resulted in a notable drop in its overall success chance. We are sorry for that, and we will be fixing it this week. The good news is that this fix will also result in the chances of critical success on all quests increasing by a significant factor.

Temporarily removing the ability to purchase immediate quest completion
Due to the issue with quest success, we felt it was best to temporarily remove the ability to spend Daybreak Cash to complete quests. We will enable the ability to purchase instant completion when the bug is fixed and, as mentioned above, will be refunding a portion the DBC spent on immediate quest completion
Ok - so that explains the failures ...
Next ..

Reward Changes
Unfortunately, we made several miscalculations with what and how much was offered. We believe it is important that this system is supplemental to gameplay and that it does not replace it. Some of the rewards offered were either too easily attained or greatly devalued items that are granted through gameplay. To repair that we will be making the following changes:
ok - this doesn't sound too great. But let us have a look ...

Overseer merchant price changes
We will be increasing the Tetradrachm cost of most items on the merchant (as a side note from Absor, “I also want to apologize for the name of those coins...” as a side note from Ngreth, “I'm not.”). The most notable change will be a significant increase in the price of McKenzie's Brews to align with their actual value. These are the new Tetradrachm prices for the items sold:

•The unique clockwork armor pieces: 70,000
•The unique clockwork robe: 175,000
•Spitegems: 87,500
•Crystallized Luck: 35,000
•Essences: 4,375
•McKenzie's Special Brew: 26,250
•Token of Resurrection: 43,750
•Urthron's Ulitimate Unattuner: 175,000
Just let this sink in and do your own math - this pretty much renders overseer items - well ... into "don't care about"?

Tetradrachm will no longer be tradeable
Frankly, these were never meant to be tradeable. The intent was that rewards be earned by using the Overseer system, not by purchasing or trading for those rewards. Please take a moment to move your existing Tetradrachm to the character/account that you wish them to be on before the update this week.
Wow - this is ... erm - well ...
So make sure you move those TD's over to the char you want them on!!!

Lowering the number of collectible items rewarded
We will be reducing the number of collectible items obtained on success. Because you can choose specifically what item you receive, introducing these items into the economy too rapidly will reduce the value of the rarest collectible items. So now collectible rewards will almost always only give you only one item. Also, you will usually not be guaranteed to get that item. The new rewards will offer you two options: either some number of Tetradrachm, or fewer Tetradrachm and a percentage chance to also gain a collectible of your choice. As a pretend example: succeeding on a Quest might offer you 200 Tetradrachm OR 150 Tetradrachm and a 25% chance to get a collectible item of your choice.
It will pretty much stop giving you collectibles. You first need to succeed in the quest and then you still have a 25% chance to get a collectible?
(It isn't that they were great about doing % chances right lately)

But here come the real bad things:
Other reward restrictions
Because we want to maintain the value of doing current content when it is current, we will no longer be rewarding collection or tradeskill items from the current expansion as rewards. Items from older expansions will obviously still be available.
Ok - so this means exchange your collectible dispensers asap into collectibles of current expansion if you want to get those!

We are restricting the ability to obtain collectible and tradeskill items as rewards to Gold members only. Free accounts will be offered a Tetradrachm reward for successful quests rather than a collectible or tradeskill item. This is to prevent abuse of the free to play system to gather these items, especially with the potential of upcoming free Heroic Characters (shh... it's a poorly kept secret!). As mentioned above, we do not want to undervalue the effort of playing the game through Overseer, we want it to be a way to enhance gameplay.
Who would have thought this to happen? Seriously ... this was a thing that was granted to happen - but well ...

yeah, went from a system that was pretty good and useful to something that could easily be forgotten about 6 months from now. Good Job, Daybroke!

We got any Overseer variables for me to play with automating it yet?
Or am I gonna have to go with long assed /window and /notify commands?

Anyone figure out how to reproduce the bug of having the first recruitment quests show up after the tutorial? Had this happen on 2 of my accounts but couldn't ever figure out how or why.

Ya... Buy a pack of agents before you first open the Overseer window and it bugs out... I got a toon that the Total Agents number is off because of it... It's like it ghosts 2 of them. I just kept buying packs till I finally got a spy like 40 agents later to get past it.

Damn... 551 child windows in the Overseerwnd... Fun Fun. Guess I'll get to play with making Multi-dimensional Arrays.

that buggs the whole thing.
I think what Atheos32 was talking about is that you get the starting quest again and can do all the initial recruitment quests first.

From what I can tell it might have to do with logging out with /camp Desktop (and using quick-camp) right after you started those quests.

The changes will be like this - so far (as per test server changes):

- A mysterious presence will only sell McKenzie's Brew's when Veil of Alaris is unlocked.
well - on live servers we couldn't care less.

- You may now only gain one Collection Dispener items from the Overseer system. Also, there are some rewards that only offer a chance at gaining a collection item. The chance is in the name. The rewards that only give a chance offer an amount of Overseer Tetradrachm to make up for the fact that it's only a chance to gain a collection item.
We also just got one so far (unless it was critical success which I have seen rarely happen myself).
What they meen with "some rewards" I don't know yet. Makes me believe that there still might be quests with the guaranteed item though.

- Overseer Tetradrachms are no longer trade-able. They are still heirloom.
Again - move yours to the account you want them while it lasts.

- Overseer rewards of Tradeskill items and Collectibles unlock one expansion behind. I.E. The Burning Lands collectibles are available when Torment of Velious unlocks, the Torment of Velious crafting supplies are unavailable until the next expansion unlocks.
That was expected. If you like it is up to you.

- Increased the price on most items sold for Overseer Tetradrachm.
We will need to see how bad it is now

- You must be a gold member to choose the collection dispensers, ornament dispensers, or tradeskill items from the overseer rewards. Overseer rewards and other rewards are available to all membership levels.
Well - there isn't much more besides Exp, MExp and ... well ... Tetradrachms.

If you spend cash on this pile of steaming junk, well .. wanna buy a bridge ? only one (1) dollar. Delivery charge to be paid in advance.

Anything from the vendor will take months to get. With f2p account well wait for recruitment missions to show up before sending out agents. No idea why you would bother on f2p accounts.

Gold account tradeskill materials/chance for collection/maybe ornamentation (weapons only) dispenser, skip the coin missions (not worthwhile anymore). Wait for recruitment missions if only coin mission is still available. This is what my strategy will be to optimize rewards if I bother opening it.

I spent some, because I thought the system to be awesome. Even spent some on f2p accounts.
From now on? Not gonna see a damn penny from me on this anymore. I am even considering to do a chargeback on one of the f2p accounts (or go ahead and tell paypal that the service paid for wasn't really delivered but withdrawn). I don't care about the account.
But knowing how things work internally with accountmanagement - I better resist ...

Do the math on the Brews :-)
Months might be an understatement.

You cannot even run another quest and cancel it once a recruitment shows up, because that could lead to your characters going into whatever negative effect they could get.

The system - for a change - was a good thing to truly catch up before they f....d it up greatly.

Overseer Collection Item Dispenser is "No Trade" now!
I have absolutely no idea why they did that and why it isn't mentioned in the patchnotes (maybe to reduce the fallout a bit?).

This devalues that thing even more. So to sell it off you need to convert it to a collectible first it seems. (the expansion and group-dispensers are "No Trade", too.)

Was always notrade but heirloom.

On the cash part yeah could see people spending it before changes now not so much.

Weird specifically looked at that as I wanted to sell in bazaar.
I sold many of them the past couple of days and had one left before the patch and wondered why it didn't show up anymore.

Unless ... I didn't check on the expansion specific ones. Maybe those were no trade already?

You only got the expansion-specific collectible clicky after claiming the collectible dispenser. The collectible dispenser was 100% tradeable (I also funneled all of them to two toons), but I never bothered to check if the expansion thingie you get when you claim the tradeable dispenser was no trade.

that would be the only "no trade" situation i could imagine (before the patch). Like the dispenser being tradeable and all below on "no trade". But as I said - I didn't pay attention to that.

Update!
They are going to change how collectible dispensers are awarded!

I am changing this, as we agree it's not a great user experience, but it requires a server down patch. In the future you will get fragments. 4 fragments will make a Full dispenser.

I am not fully decided yet what this means.
But it either is: If the dispenser falls to dust you will get 1 fragment - OR - it won't crumble anymore but you will earn 1/4th of a dispenser for every quest. completed.
(I would prefer the first option because it could give you more than 25% chance. But because that would be more player-friendly I suspect that it will be option 2 :) )

Im showing the McKinzee brews costing 26,000 each now which means you would need 1,600,000 overseer coins to buy the rez stick. Am I bugged or is this a nerf?

Was nerfed a week ago maybe 2.
heavily nerfed :(

Although there is a change for collectible dispensers incoming. You will either get 1/4th of a dispenser every time or 1/4th if the quest fails. I suppose that they rather remove the 25% chance at all (giving 1/4 every time) instead of having 25% chance plus if it fails to at least get 1/4.
