Not going to argue to pros and cons of very vanilla not being allowed on truebox servers, I understand his reasons and agree, what I miss most might be doable without the rest and that is the ask... a working /stick command......

boxing melees gets soo cumbersome without /stick, I have been getting by without it for years now, but, how much of a level of effort would it be to just add /stick to a verison? It woudl still require manual operaiton, etc... so not botting but damned it would make melee more attractive to box again.

Thoughts? since it appears Daybreak is pretty much not doing anything new without truebox code....

well. I wouldn't say they not going to be doing anything new without truebox code. in fact, very much the opposite - hopefully they make it happen.

As far as mq2 on truebox - unlikely.

Yeah, I saw but its going to be well over 6 months out since miragul is already chosen to be truebox. Not asking for MQ2... just /stick though lol.

MQ2 worked on Truebox servers for maybe 3 days before it was heavily abused and caused issues. /stick has other dependencies that allowing that to work would likely open doors for others to abuse in ways that aren't known about bringing more problems to the community. While I would like it as well, I doubt it very much and am fine with that.

It worked for a lot longer than 3 days, but you are probably right, the dependencies for /stick would need to be rolled into a standalone program and no idea what doors that may open since I have been out of the developer end of things for over 10 years but I would suspect you would need at least some of the memory hooks as well.

I’ve never played on a progression sever before, but aren’t there progression servers that aren’t true box? Can you go play on those? Forgive me if I’m being ignorant here.

Not to derail but I just dont understand the attraction to TLP. I dont see how after raiding through all of it anyone would want to go back and do that again. Why not play in the newer or current expansions instead? I honestly would like to know what motivates people to play there? I'm not going to judge but super curious.

The nostalgia aspect could potentially draw me in... I think most other players feel the same way.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't "truebox" mean just 1 client of EQ running? If that's the case, why are you wanting to have a working /stick command to run more than 1 toon on a server that says you're only supposed to run 1 toon?

I'm with you... I don't get it. I tried it for a couple of weeks and hated living in fuckin Guk so much that I quit and just fired up my Live toons again.

You're not exactly wrong - but Truebox means you can only have 1 instance of EQ running on a single PC. It does not say you cannot play more than 1 toon. You can have 6 PC's set up and run a full group. So I would assume the OP is looking for some /stick action to make that easier when playing his multiple toons.

1 client per machine, I run 3 machines, 3 accounts, now do you understand why.... Exactly what SylanosScorn says, would make things a good bit easier when boxing melees.

Also, I quit EQ originally in DoDH, I have had a blast on TLPs, and this time next year it will essentially be a live server... and I will be caught up and have experienced every single raid... and so far.. have cleared every one in era too which is something else few can say that arent on a TLP server...

Unless you played since release... heh.

I stopped playing but it was when Underfoot came out. I came back at HoT release, finished that expansion out, and went back for what I missed since Undrfoot and SoF were still being raided.

Part of the "attraction" for progression is not only the nostalgia, but having other players to go through X with. Anyone can go through old content on live servers. Or make new toons to do it at level appropriate intervals. But finding a group of folks who want to do it together... not so much. TLP there is only so much content at a time... and once you are caught up with everyone else, you are on the same starting line when the next content is opened.

I personally am not wanting to play TLP... spent way to much time in my toons to abandon them now! Not to mention the classes have evolved so much over time. It is like boxing for years and then trying to play one toon... /twitch /twitch /twitch DEMMIT this is SLOW!

I have done the 3-5 machine set up. As a matter of fact I used to have two corner desks and a workstation set up in a big J with the keyboard/mouse close to hand, with multiple toons up on each machine back when raiding Hate/Fear or farming epic mobs. Took a while to get used to boxing on just the one machine once I built one that could handle a lot... heh.

The issue with follow going nuts though is generally lag in my experience. Once I get the CPU load down under 50% on the computers I stopped getting the occasional spike while using follow that sent that one toon into orbit mode. And even then it was usually just a matter of switching that toon to be the "focus" toon on that PC and they zeroed in on the drive toon.

As for melee placing... the follow distance is about right for melee. On a three man team have your tank parked in camp with melee on follow, then use puller to bring mob to camp. The tank aggros the mob and backs up a few steps, placing the melee toon at the mobs back in melee striking distance. Then of course, if your tank gets pushed, the melee toons advance with him. If the tank needs repositioning, just allow enough room to back up a few steps so the melee toon(s) is directly behind.

I played on Ragefire for awhile, it was actually a lot of fun for me going back and raiding some old stuff I did before, and some new stuff I never did. It drew me in just to go down the rabbit hole one more time. However, once I had to take a break from eq, the server got into content i already did. So, i decided to go back on live, and i really enjoy live.

Now, would i go back and do it again on a new tlp? Maybe, but i doubt it lol! Lots of work and very time consuming. Also, I really dislike starting out in classic with all the limited zones. All in all, it was fun and I leave it at that.

I can't help but when I used to box before I started mq2, I would run the mob with my tank to the group and then tell them to auto follow me, and then I would walk backwards a bit and they would all stack up right behind the mob. Not high tech but it might help if you have nothing else.

problem with that it requires all of the group to follow the puller or tank... which can/is suicide in most places! I usually pulled singles with my monk or bard back to my group, sometimes you can get the mob to stop in just the right place.... sometimes.... Would be awesome to just macro a /stick on the mob to position the melee and then go to town like I normally do, it gets tiresome having to move the group ever pull slightly....

Hence using a puller to get to the group and then aggroing with the tank... have melee follow tank.

Tank just has to get aggro and then back up a few paces sometimes... doesn't require moving him a lot.

Takes a little forethought on camp location so the tank has a little room to move in circles and of course LOS to aggro with out using melee.

Yes, know the tricks, hence the quality of life request here, as that involved a lot of placement to work still... and on true bow machines, even with multiplicity or some other virtual kvm, it can still be a pita!

Thanks for the suggestions though :-)
