I have been 3 boxing manually for some time with limited success. I had to upgrade my ram from 4g to 16g as 2 boxing wasn’t even possible before. Now I found mq2 and very vanilla so I was hoping to try 6 boxing. My pc seems ok with 4 toons but 5 gets jumpy and 6 is as bad as it was with 2 boxes before i upgraded the ram. I am pretty sure it’s not VV causing the lag because it’s the same when loading them through the MQ2 launcher and individually through the EQ launchpad. Based on what I’ve read, I really think I should be able to handle 6 toons but I’m not sure what else to adjust.

PC
intel celeron [email protected] (2 cores)
16G ram
NVidia GeForce 7600GT
Windows 10 64bit
with all 6 accounts running CPU is 70-75% and memory is 50%

EQ settings
All 6 CPUAffinity are set to -1
all Luclin models off
each account has opacity >20%, density:low, clip plane:near, spells:me+NPC
shadow clip plane at min

im sure there’s processes I could kill in task manager but it seems the hogs are legit.

any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
thanks in advance

I would eq mq2eqwire, and setup a good eqclient ini including setting your cpu affinities to all "-1" (which you said you already did, double check there are no rogue duplicate entries in the file)

it indexes at 0, so you will have a 0, 1, 2 for 3 toons, 0-5 for 6 toons etc. you want each of these to be "-1" in your eqclient.ini. sometimes folks when adding the lines, end up putting duplicates in there - and since it is an ini, the first time it finds a line matching what it is looking for it will skip other entries for it.

I group mind together just for safe keeping
CPUAFFINITY0=-1
CPUAFFINITY1=-1
CPUAFFINITY2=-1
CPUAFFINITY3=-1
CPUAFFINITY4=-1
CPUAFFINITY5=-1

I would also ensure you don't have anything else doing any cpu management - I use ISBOXER and i turn the cpu management OFF in that badboy so eqwire and windows can do their magic

Thanks for the replies. I double checked the .ini file and all CPU affinity is -1 with no duplicated lines. Yes, I know the hardware isn’t amazing but its all I have and the wife isn’t going to let me upgrade no matter how much I “love” her. :dance: I’m going to try mq2eqwire on test to see if it works for me before purchasing it. I’ll report back if it helps me rock these toons. Thanks again

eqwire should fix you up. I had a clunker work station that could barely run 2 toons. eqwire has it running 6 box team no problem now. Stable for days, compared to no eqwire and it would crash on load of 3rd toon.

something else that might be worth considering - is using denethor's eqclient thing so you can have usestickfigures=1 on your background toons

something else that should help in your alt-o window hide everyone, hide players - all; hide pets - all; hide mercenaries - all;

for your backgorund toons would also suggest hiding corpses, and maintoon hidecorpses that are looted

Your cpu and memory use seems somewhat reasonable for that system and #of toons right?

I wonder if something else is causing the lag....

How about background FPS? Would try turning that to minimum. Are you using any programs like Gina or gameparse to parse logs? Do you have logging on or off?

I absolutely would not recommend turning background fps to a minimum - eq's instruction processing still happens on fps --- you can leave it 60+ and just let mq2eqwire not draw the frames instead - otherwise you can and WILL have issues with toons skipping commands or having movement/navigation issues etc

Denethors eqclient thing looks somewhat more complicated than I want at the moment but I’ll put it in my back pocket for later if necessary. I don’t think I have Gina running. I pretty much only did what the tutorial videos told me to do. If Gina was part of it then it’s there. I probably shouldn’t have started this project last night after drinking all day but hey, that’s when I get my best ideas!

I did get an increase in DPS when I adjusted mine away from min, although I’ve read that it’s a last resort type thing, but some guides still mention it.

I guess use with caution

I would think a dual core processor is gonna be your main issue here personally

All suggestions above will help, but I think 6 boxing on a dual core is gonna be the biggest thing

update

i tried to run the test server but I couldn’t figure out how to launch it. Finally I decided to go ahead and spend the $$ on mq2eqwire. At first I was highly disappointed because it didn’t help. Then I realized I needed to run it on all the toons. OH MY GOD YA’LL!!!! The group is moving fluidly through CR and I’m learning how to control use them with MQ2. Thanks again to everyone who suggested it. It’s as if I only have 2 instances running. No problems switching between toons and eqnav is working beautifully. Now I’m trying to get kissassist working properly but thats a different conversation. Thanks again all!
