I recently set out on a mission to get EQ + MQ working on my mac. I know some people have gotten it to work with crossover and wine in general, but I wasn't having any luck. I also preferred getting it working with parallels because EQ is pretty darn performant in parallels and I can do MQ development right there in the VM with a local install of visual studio (with a debugger). After a lot of headache, I found the solution was actually extremely simple.
  1. Install parallels. I just did the default win11 install but I imagine this would work with win10 as well. There's not much to this, it's a pretty self-explanatory installer.
  2. Install the dx9 redist. This is a standard step for installing EQ in general, so again I won't go into it.
  3. Install EQ. Same deal -- everyone knows how to install EQ. At this step, you can make sure it runs and is set up without MQ for you, it will work pretty much out of the box.
  4. Install MQ in your preferred way. Check that MQ runs and everything, but you can't run it with EQ yet. Just make sure the launcher is good and what you expect.
  5. This is where it can get frustrating: trying to launch EQ with MQ running. If you've tried this before, you will have noticed a dx9 crash and probably tried to install a bunch of things. The solution is actually very simple:
    1. for live: copy d3d11.dll from C:\Windows\System32 into your everquest install (same directory as eqgame.exe)
    2. for emu: copy d3d9.dll from C:\Windows\SysWOW64 into your everquest install (same directory as eqgame.exe).
  6. Run EQ with MQ and enjoy the fruits of your copy and paste!
Full disclosure: I didn't actually test live, but I'm pretty sure this will work for it.

I’ll check this out. Yeah on an ARM M series Mac I would get the DX crash when running MQ. I should have thought about moving the DX11 file to the EQ directory. I’ll test it

Just note DBG frowns on using VM’s for EQ I think that mostly is for Truebox TLP’s not sure about other live servers.

I'm kind of "here's a bunch of information, do with it what you will" kind of person. Everything we do here is not without risk . (Also. I really only wanted it for emu)
